Subject: Leaking clutch cover

Knowing how soooo many tls out there leak around the clutch cover I set out to find out why. I removed the cover and the o ring from my 97 tls and cleaned everything up. I then put the cover back on and took my feeler guage and discovered a gap at the bottom of the cover. Either the cover is warped or not molded right by Suzuki, or possibly the metal sleeves keeping the cover bolts from going throught the cover are not flush. Anyway, I filled the o ring groove with blue silicon and pushed the o ring back into the groove being careful not to push it completely to the bottom of the groove along the bottom of the cover. I then put a little additional silicon along the inner edge of the cover o ring and allowed all this to set for a couple of hours before tightening the cover down loosely. I waited 24 hrs. before torquing the bolts down. I have not had any oil leak for over a thousand mile now. This winter when I do a major service on my tl I will try to discover exactly why this cover leaks and will pass on any info I might find.
