Need some help Guys. First my TLR battery died so I bought another one. Two weeks later, battery dies again. The bike shop said that it might be my rectifier. So I buy a new rectifier and battery and in 2 1/2weeks, it dies again(when I turn key, lights come on weak and bike wont turn over). What else could the problem be?

Was having trouble with idle not falling immediately to 1200 rpm after installing 2-1 full system on the TLS, then remapping to +5 +5 +0 @11:00. I've checked the TB boots all OK, still happening. I imagine Gary and Erwin8r are correct in that it is a lean condition, but I cant' think of anything I haven't checked besides the TBs being sync'd. It drops to about 2k rpm and stays, but not always, mostly when I am getting on it a bit, then slowing to a stop w/the clutch in. No dyno yet, so yeah yeah, I know, get it to a dyno, but anyone have any suggestions?

deristricter -- kiwitlr, 00:21:02 04/24/04 Sat
I have just purhased a 98TL1000R which is a Japanese domestic model. The runs great until it reaches 6500rpm and the the ignition seams to cut out. If you dont accelerate to hard, it will run past the 6500 mark but as soon as you crank it open it then cuts the ignition for an instant. Could this be because it is restricted for the domestic market in Japan. Also I thought the fault may be to do with the fuel sensor cut out unit which is located on the rear tank bracket. Does anyone know what this is for?.

- Pirelli Diablo Corsa's -- DeaninLBC, 11:04:48 04/23/04 Fri
Guys I have been somewhat hesitant about saying this because I know how people are about their tires.
On my last track day at Buttonwillow, a great track by the way, I was pushing both ends. Maybe this is because of my particular style of entry, which if it is I need to adjust my entry, but I would push the front and slide the rear. Not to sound braggish because that did unnerve me enough to chop the throttle each time which shows I am not used to that activity. If that is the characteristic of this tires grip with our top heavy TLR/S then select a stickier tire if you have noticed this.
Now a question for the fast guys. Who has used both the H2 and the 208GP and on the TL, excluding manufacturer bias, what did you notice about the tires abilities, turn-in, in turn stability and lean angle confidence?
I know this is a general question because everyone rides differently, but a little feedback would be great.
Thanks bros for any responces regarding this subject.
For you monkeys that feel you must flame, remeber this little statement "BY-U".

- Srry can't help you with the tires question, but what does B-Y-U mean? -- Mike C, 12:35:02 04/23/04 Fri
Dude, I *was* an exclusive Dunlop GP guy for years. I recently slapped on a set of BT001R Type-3. The 190 rear felt better and with the high crown the turn in is just as quick, with a bigger foot print. They take heat better than the 208GPA too. It kind of pulled me out of my spoiled brat Dunlop kick... normally I wouldn't trust another set of tires... luckily I was damn near given this set by a guy who thought they were Avon's at the time of sale... dummass. (NT) -- ~ Prozac ~, 13:27:16 04/23/04 Fri
- I haven't gotten fast enough to predict and enjoy sliding yet, and I'm still working through my stack of last-gen Michelin Pilot Race's. I have tried both the H2 and the 208GP's on my TL and the 208's felt slightly better to me as I recall, but then again I don't think I was pushing them hard enough to really matter. My next tires will probably be Pirelli slicks with the 190/55 rear, everyone I know who's tried them loves 'em. (NT) -- dgrace (NorCal), 15:54:11 04/23/04 Fri
- Like Slow-zac, I too am a big fan of the Dunlop D208GPs, because they let go rather smoothly and they are very consistent. I have tried Michelins (slicks and the previous-generation Pilots) and while I never got them to break loose, they were a *bitch* to come up to temp. As a matter of fact, my last crash at Willow was on a set of cold Michelins--though it was my fault for not heeding the "5-laps for tire warm-up" advice from the track guru there... - While waiting for rear wheel parts.....TLR -- Gene, 17:29:42 04/22/04 Thu
I decided to go for a bit more low end torque and power. So I was going to go up two teeth in rear. I spoke to a chain go in Georgia who advertises excellent chain cheap prices. He said I could use existing chain and go down one in front sprocket. I got to thinking what the difference would be depending which way I go. I have to replace both sprockets anyway so I have to take off the front sprocket which I heard you need an airgun to do since it is on 180 or so ft/lbs of pressure.
I don't want to have to buy a longer chain even if they are "greatf--kingquality!" like the guy says. He didn't push too much though, nice guy.
However does anyone think the reduction of one tooth in the front sprocket pretty much equals the increase of two in the rear sprocket? Let me know if anyone has an opinion on this matter.
I'm still waiting for a spacer for my rear wheel and now it is 4 days, maybe it'll come in tomorrow. Gene

- The only problem with dropping one in the front is it'll rub more on the plastic chain guide at the front of the swingarm and wear it out faster. I didn't have any problems getting the front sprocket off with a normal breaker bar, just stick a 2x4 through the rear wheel against the swingarm and tug away. Typically 1 front tooth more or less equals 2 rear teeth. Best of luck! (NT) -- dgrace (NorCal), 20:32:30 04/22/04 Thu
- Rear sprocket increase then. Chain length needed? -- Gene, 20:51:51 04/22/04 Thu
- You can go up to +2 (41 teeth) with the stock chain length, especially if it's not brand new, after that you'll need a longer one. I'm running 17/43 on mine and by adding 2 links I'm right in the middle of the adjustment range. (NT) -- dgrace (NorCal), 00:20:49 04/23/04 Fri
- Thanks degrace -- Gene -MN, 00:47:34 04/23/04 Fri
- One tooth down in the front is more like 3 teeth up in the rear (about 2.7, actually). Like Dgrace says, it would be safer to go up the two teeth in the rear, as the rubber guides have been known to get "sucked in" by the chain. Besides, there is less kinking of the chain if you leave the stock sized sprocket up front. Truth be told, your best bet is to go ahead and get a new chain with the sprockets..... A while back I posted about having just installed a full 2 into 1 system on my TLS, and the following idle problems due to a lean mixture most likely. When I cut the throttle the rpm's would fall to about 2k and stay there for a few seconds. If I adjusted the idle screw down a bit, she would want to stall after decelerating. Erwin8r recomended remap to +5 +5 +0 at 11:00. After doing this, she still wants to idle high after riding, when coming to a stop. Should I try +10 at L and M throttle position? I currently have no access to a dyno so this is all a little iffy. Could I maybe have a sticking idle adjust cable? Thoughts lads? Thanks.

- Plugs can be done once a year or so, depending on how much you use your bike. I would go up one or two teeth on the rear sprocket, and depending on your riding style and use, I would keep it at 530 and replace the steel sprockets/chain every 8 to 10k miles. If you plan to do a lot of "high performance" riding (canyons, track, etc.) consider a 520 conversion: DID ERV2 chain and AFAM sprockets are probably the best combo, replaced at every 6 to 8 k miles. I was going to put a few more miles on her this weekend and DYNO it next week, but my Dyno guy was going out of town next Wednesday and I didn’t want to wait weeks for this, so with 510 miles on her, and after the MotoTune breaking we strapped her down on the DYNO and let her rip. I put fresh oil in before making the 50 mile ride to the shop.
Results were 142.3 bone stock. This is on par with all the other 03/04’s he has done. Not the best, but near the top.
Now the fun begins. I’ve had the new Yosh Pipes hanging in the garage for weeks and it’s driving me nuts. I also have to install:
Galfer lines (new ones that don’t use the front Banjo Bolt)
2T up rear AFAM sprocket
Smart TRE
BMC Race filter (these are fine, just oil them regular)
Yellow Box
Map with the Factory Pro TEKA
Notice I have my 03 Track Day bodywork installed. I wanted to make sure the pump worked well in the tank I got. Damn winter grit is still all over the roads around here, so I really don’t care if this stuff gets blasted a little.
The next DYNO will be at the HP Shootout on June 13th. I will post the results when I get them.

I do all my servicing exept valve clearances I have the manual do you think it could be done in my garrage, or is it best going to a dealer (not that I trust em!)

On the brake lines......stainless / teflon? It's all part of the same assembled brake line! Just like the fittings, some are aluminum some are carbon steel, some are stainless steel. The actual fluid carrying device is Teflon tubing. On it's own it can be torn or kinked pretty easily. So along comes braided stainless steel (or Nylon, or Kevlar, or other Arimid fibers) to protect the Teflon tubing. So....you will get both when you buy one. (NT) -- Mike (So. Cal.), 12:29:19 04/13/04 Tue
- Mike handled the lines, so I'll tackle the forks: You need a couple of special tools (a fork seal driver and a spring compressor/holder thinga-ma-gig), so I would say leave the fork assembly/disassembly to the pro's (if valve celarances are a bit much for you, I suspect fork disassembly might be as well). Ready to learn? Buy the tools and take your time... (NT) -- Erwin8r in Los Angeles, 15:30:34 04/13/04 Tue

- I just changed the oil in my forks this weekend. I had the front wheel off to put new tyres on anyway. All I did was take the cap off the top and drain the oil into a clean jar and fill a second jar to the same level with fresh oil and pour that back in. - Blown Gasket?? -- Matt (MA), 19:02:24 04/17/04 Sat
02 TLR, 4000 miles, two brothers bolt ons, and TRE are the only mods i have done to this bike. while i was out riding today, i was coming to a stop, pulled the cluth in, gave a little gas, and my bike stalled and i felt a knock under the gas tank. i started it up and it was idling at 1500, compared to 1100 before. so i continue to ride, a 10-15 miles later i start hearing a hissing noise(like gas shooting into the carb) from under the tank. anybody have any idea what my problem is, how i can fix it, and how much is it gonna cost me?
thanks for any info

- Some clutch help -- RichieD, 20:25:24 04/15/04 Thu
Ok Im having a ton of trouble with my clutch, I have converted to cable, I just keep slipping. I have 3 sets of plates at this point all new, so if someone could walk me through the adjustment process for the cable set up that would be great. Also how many plates do you have in your's? and last but not least when I was changing the last time the mechanical through fell out of the casing it is held in so I had to guess what way the thing was facing so if any one out their has theit sprocket cover off and they have the cable conversion could you snap a picture of it and send it to me? ill send you my adress if you can do it.
Thanks all
Rich

- Wobbly rear wheel on TLR -- Gene, 21:15:03 04/16/04 Fri
I put the rear wheel back on and I noticed today that the sprocket drum was opened rather wide with lots of play in the wheel. I took it off put it back on, still same way. I'm thinking that there are two collars one on each end of axle, I only have one. HOw the hell could I have lost it in my 12X15ft shack??! I can't find it! If I am wrong and there is only one collar I'd appreciate if someone would notify me of my ignorance.
By the way is it possible to assemble the rear wheel and accidently lodge that other collar in the wrong place? I can't imagine where! Gene

- Fitting steel clutch line to TLR-hints needed -- Gene, 20:38:41 04/15/04 Thu
I changed my front and rear brake lines to steel lines. I thought the clutch would be an easy job. Well the problem I am having is that you can't see most of the line which
is buried behind an aluminum frame spar. You can see the beginning and the end that's all.
I took fairing off of the side and also lifted the gas tank up. I can't see the lines still obviously. I'd have to take off the air cleaner and whatever to see the lines
inside the frame. I don't think I need to do this.
This is my idea; I bleed the clutch dry, cut the rubber
clutch cable and tie a string to the part I'm pulling through and then I tie the new line to the string and hope it pulls through without getting jammed in the hidden
area which I can't see. How does that sound? Is that how
to do it? Any ideas?? What a trip! I"m always in one of
these, always learning I know much less than I thought!
I'd appreciate some feedback, thanks, Gene

- Steering loose on 03' TL1000R -- Mack_USCG, 20:07:38 04/16/04 Fri
Im not sure if this is a problem or not but I figured I'd ask! I find that my TLR steering normally is nice a tight but after taking a pretty tight corner it felt as if my steering has become "loose feeling". I figured that it must be hot tires grabbing nice but I let em cool down and it feels the same after cooling down. I cornered nicely with no shake and noticed nothing mechanically afterwards. Did my suspension somehow get whacked or is the bike playing head games with me? Mind, I've never cornered with that much lean angle before but my confidence is gaining!
If anyone could hook me up with some info I would appreciate it. Ive had several sportbiikes over the years but never felt that after a nice turn.
Thanks,
Mack
