I've got to agree with Kain. Telling can be via pictures and images, and flits simply are not sentient beings. Kitty Ping, the genetic engineer of dragons, had to adapt this herself via mentasynth enhancement. This is the same chemical used to make the dolphins evolve mentally so that they could talk to humans, and had to be used on the firelizards so that the dragons could speak to humans. Also, in DragonQuest, DragonRiders are just beginning to learn about the Impressment of flits at all, before this time they were just considered wild non-sentients. (This discluding when humans first settled the planet and called it P.E.R.N. for an acronym of it's descriptive label)

What Brekke means in that quote is that her Impressed flit was able to communicate with her mentally, not via words persay, but rather via colors and pictures. F'nor is doubtful because flits were not believed to have any telepathic ability at the time. *squee* Pern debate! I <3 it!
