    An island off the coast of Newfoundland had long been the home of a healthy wildlife population and a popular platform for dogsled racing. As time went on, the wolf population began to dwindle, leaving a boisterous caribou population go relatively unchecked. It was partially for that reason that “Project TWIG” began. Its aim was to pull wolves from areas with extremely healthy wolf populations as well as wolves where their numbers were threatened by man and urbanization and relocate them to an island with a rich history of wolves to retain balance to the island – but also to be used as a controlled environment to research wolves.

    The wolves were captured and tagged, then dropped off on Xanctsu Island. One question was clear from the very beginning: What did the tags mean? While the only solid pack native to the island opted to view the tags with mild concern, other wolves were quick to jump to conclusions. As time progressed, packs were formed; one steadily opposed the tags and all tagged wolves; another consisted solely of tagged wolves.

    The grey area between what benefits the tags might bring and what disasters they might promise is small. Most wolves have a solid belief on the tags, and those who don’t have an opinion have not experienced enough to fully form one.

    All the wolves can agree on is that the humans are behind the tags… But what does that mean?

    Humans inhabit a small town; the only town on the island. There reside the researchers who are a part of “Project TWIG” and a handful of dogsled racers and a few other people. The annual dogsled race, The Xanctsu Quest, has been compared to the Iditarod (not quite as extreme as the Yukon Quest, though) and takes racers throughout the entire island all for a lone prize of glory and fame.

    Two things to vote on for the new site:
    1.) Staying with Voy/trying a new forum system where everythings literally put on a single forum.

    2.) Having a chat room for Live RP scheduled at specific times when folks can get there. I think part of the issue with the messageboard RP is just that it takes weeks for a day to pass. Chat room RP allows us to pick up the pace, and again -- would be scheduled based upon when multiple folks could be there. :-)

    I didn't particularly enjoy Dragon's Fire as a book, but it was a good resource for some things about Pern that haven't been explored before. Which I'm going to list, both for my own self-reference and for those who might not have gotten a chance to read it yet. I'm also drawing some game-related conclusions from the new facts. Anybody up for debating and/or discussing them?

    However, if anyone REALLY wants to avoid spoilers for the book, there are a few (including a very major one). So I'll put the bulk of this in a reply, so if you don't want to be spoiled you can just not click on the link.

    I have a question: How old are the dragonets from Grenith's clutch? Ashertith from that is my only brown, and my bronze is one that I currently have no muse for. I can dredge up something for him if you want me to, but if Gren's clutch are old enough to fly...

    All right, I posted the start of Mylanith's flight in the Flight Air. Ladies and, er, ladies, PLEASE respond... Kitty says we're going to restart NIW with the clutch from this flight. ^_^ If you only have the time to throw one malerider in, just do one! In fact, even if you have plenty of time and maleriders, remember that in flights quality counts WAY more than quantity, so I'd rather see impressive posts from you for one of your maleriders than so-so posts for each of five. (If you can do good posts for all five? Wow. More power to you. Go for it!)

    Don't feel left out if you have a brown and not a bronze (or feel you can write your brown better than your bronze), and don't be afraid to put your browns in the flight! ^_~ Remember, this is a junior queen, so you can if you prefer. I just want a shiny flight, you guys, and I trust you all to deliver. :D

    First, and foremost, to those of you still playing/interested in playing at New Isle Weyr, I offer my sincere apologies. I'd not realized that the Weyr still had loyal members when I finally gave up m'self a few months ago -- so you can imagine my surprise when I was checking my AOL e-mail the other day and found not one, not two, but three back-logged e-mails from Pup telling me that there was still a small population of remaining RPers. Certainly something aught to be done for these folk in my humble opinion -- and though the suggestion of giving up and officially closing the site was legimately made, I'd like to offer a vote. (Lots of love to Pup by the way for being so loyal as to keep in touch!)

    I'm starting college soon, but I've still a good week or so before I go. I'm willing to type up a new backstory for the Weyr -- start completely afresh for everyone. Do an Active Check (of doom) and probably send a ton of chars off to the Lost Souls Board. I'm also thinking that we pass a few turns -- get another clutch on the sands and do a heck of a lot of advertising. I've faith we can save it... but I'd need some help. Someone to keep the updates functional in particular, people willing to take leading roles such as Weyrlingmaster, Cook, etc., and everyone -everyone-, to spread the word to their friends, neighbors, and little cousins twice removed.

    Also, as I've been mistakenly gone ahwile -- please tell me of what RP-plots have occurred so that I can work them into the storyline. I want to incorporate what's happened in my abscence into positions and general storylinne. If Wessae is availible to be active, I'd -love- for her and T'bel to keep going... but no is certainly acceptable with a job and school all sorts of other craziness. If this has to be so, then my first thought for canon would be for Ginny and K'ith to return and take command. I'm willing to play these folks... okay, actually (I'd love to come back to playing them. It's been a long, long time.)

    Anywho, so that no one feels any pressure one way or another -- silent vote. E-mail me back with your thoughts and a yea or nay. If it is a nay, I'll still write up a good story to give New Isle the graceful closure it deserves.

    oh wow, my Firefox managed to delete all links so it deleted my link to this place as well. Then I go random google-searching my character I use in another game today and find something hilarious posted by somebody in some RPG on some voy forum who had a character with the same name mine did. I laugh my ass off, then scroll around and think "wow, some of these names look familiar". Two minutes later I burst out laughing because this was my own character on Terole. Now my sides hurt! I even showed my friend and called my own writing 'extremely lame' before realising who I was talking about.

    My writing has changed a lot! haha, but what was even more fun was seeing Terole reopened! I almost squealed in joy and disbelief! I'm reading the intro and wondering if to re-join. And if I do, who with! This is so amazing! I've bookmarked this place again. XD So many of my characters started out here before being transfered or sadly vanished. Wheee! *excitement*

    And yeah, I'm Matthildur or Matt but Tjara is much simpler and fewer mistake me for a bloke when I'm not Matt. XD

    And yes, this IS the long-lost Nitesun who got his name to mimic Deystar's and started the Weyrbrats thing.

    I'm coming back to New Isle (and don't worry--DS'll be back soon, I talked to her over the phone). I know this seems weird, but... well, I liked it, and I came back to look and miss some of my old characters. A little voice just said, "MINE!", and I knew I wanted back in. Now that summer's here... well, I had to come back...

    Amyr and Amyrel are both mine again, from DS.

    Anyway, I'm asking Pup about X'thrall. I don't want to push you, Pup... I only claim the others because I already talked to DS and worked everything out. I just want to know if you'd let me play him again, but if you want to keep him, I can't blame ya. =p Either way, it's up to you.

    It's been a thousand turns since Lessa, F'lar, Jaxom and the other dragon-riders took the trip to the Red Star and knocked it out of course. Thread has not fallen at all, just like AVIAS promised. Many of the old rules have been forgotten, although some still followed them due to tradition. Despite the things they found in AIVAS’s records, Pern remains a low technology planet as most found the technology alien and as an abomination to their way of life.

    More and more holds have sprung up, many in the southern continent, due to the more temperate climate. Some holds despised dragon-riders despite the fact that they didn't have to tithe to them any more because of the searches for the clutches, but some were kind to the dragon riders. The crafthalls also flourished, there have been many discoveries. Not only that there was improvement in some of the machinery and the practices, there was less and less of traditions being lost because of the hesitance of sharing craft secrets.

    Of all the people of Pern, though, the dragons and their riders that have been doing the best. No longer needing to keep sharp and ready for Thread, they have found new things to do. Many dragons and their riders have taken to entertainment: Aerostunts, racing and the like are fairly common. Some dragons and their riders act as transportation, as going Between is much quicker to get from place to place than RunnerBeast or Ship. Another common occupation for dragonriders is as scouts and hunters. One responsibility the weyrs have taken on and provide to their local holds and halls is a rescue service. If there is a natural disaster, the dragons and their riders help out, for example in cases of forest fires, dragons will carry sacks of sand and when they are above the fire, their rider will slash the sacks and allow the sand to fall to the ground and smoother the flames out.

    Life on Pern has been relatively peaceful although recently, a stranger atop a white dragon appeared outside the weyr, and has caused quite a stir, especially once their story was heard. The WhiteRider, Coya, claims that Thread shall fall in a few turns, many have decided that Coya is touched in the head, but that doesn’t explain the strange scars the pair bare and it doesn’t explain why there is no record of Coya’s birth or the White dragon, Akalith’s hatching.

    The small town of Kaono (located on Xanctsu Island, off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada) has become the site of a handful of researchers, biologists, and conservationalists; all working for the sole purpose of studying the wolves of the island. Some were taken from other parts of the world and brought to Xanctsu Island to rebuild the wolf population while other wolves are native to the land.

    ___________The Town
    Kaono is reknown in the dogsled-racing world as a hotspot. Not only is the island secluded, and almost all the residents of Kaono are mushers, but there is one grand race that occurs annually which takes the mushers and their teams through the whole island. There are no second or third place finishes to be awarded. Just one first place winner will see the trophy and find the glory associated with being the best musher on the island for that year.

    But the fact of the matter is that dogsledding is no easy task. The race is not for first-timers. And, once out on the field, the only thing the mushers have to worry about is signing into their checkpoints as fast as possible to get the best start the next day. Aside from that, there are no rules.

    ___________The Wolves
    The wolves native to the land have learned that the humans are predators, and that they can live peacefully amongst each other if they don't wander too close to town. The problem came when the tagged wolves started popping up, and stories started forming. Packs emerged, made from combinations of tagged and native wolves, and lines were drawn. Every wolf in it's right mind knows that an Alpha Pack wolf would jump at the chance to kill a Pillow Pack wolf and vice-versa. It was that simple. They also know that the one pack lead by native wolves, the Xanctsu Pack, is generally not one to jump into frivolous fights and is generally neutral when it comes to the tag controversy--oh yes, there is a tag controversy amongst the wolves.

    You see, some wolves believe the tags re a curse. They are foreign objects placed on their ears by humans. Some wolves want to wait it out and see what happens, while others believe that the tagged wolves should be dealt with now before something horrible happens to them. Some wolves, however, think nothing of the tags. They don't beleive they are good or bad, and don't worry about the potential consequences. Every wolf has a theory about them, though. Be sure of that.

    Anyway, a new joining person calling themself Sia brought it to my attention. (Don't worry, Sia, if you read this--you did nothing wrong.) Anyway, the character Sia is a girl... and she's bi. While I know we all have had male-male pairings as an established part of the Weyr, well, since the site was formed, I'd guess, but we've never come up with the possibility of a female-female pairing. Now, with females riding greens and blues, it IS possible... and I wanna know if we have any ground rules on that. While I myself have no problem with gay pairings, I cannot speak for everyone. So...?

    By some sheer coincidence I was reminded of my RPG past today, and decided to see if I could find this place. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this forum is still here. :)

    I will however bow my head in shame and admit that I have forgotten the name of some of the games I played that were associated with this OOC board. KRPG is still here, although I drifted away pretty soon after I joined it. Think I had a female named T-something there. An insignificant character. :)

    But only the Pern game seemed to be active today, is that true? As much as I'd like to join one of those, somehow I've just never ended up thinking I'd be any good. Maybe because I've never read the books. :)

    I'm just a little confued. Everyone else seems to think that whers are about dog-size. But in Dragon's Kin, Kindan is often surpirsed at how fast green Kisk has grown, most notable when she is 'shoulder-high'. And since she's a green, I assumed that the other colors must be larger than that( especially since the whers are the same size as the dragons were when they were first genetically formed). (I.e., the queen wher of today is roughly the equivelant of Faranth)
    What is the wher's correct size? Does anyone know?

    The Red Star is gone - but Thread has returned


    When the Red Star was blown away from Pern, its course was altered. As it swung onto its new course, another planetary body in the Oort Cloud was in its way. Drawn to each other, the two planets revolved around each other for a hundred years before they broke free - both on a new course. The Red Star was gone, but another blue planetoid was now on a similar course as the Red Star had once been.

    It appeared in Pern's skies and was jokingly called the Blue Star. Telgar's Weyrwoman thought that was too appropriate and brought to attention the fact that it too could carry Thread. No one believed her. Even when a Master Astronomer reported his findings, Pern refuses to believe.

    The Blue Star has already brought something else with it. Something that has seeped into the atmosphere and comes down with the rain. The flora has already begun to mutate, and the first of dragonic kind to feel this effect is the whers. Six months before the first fall of Thread is to begin, a new clutch of whers opened their eyes. The first mutants have been born, but they won't be the last, and not only the dragons and their cousins will be affected. But first, Pern has to survive the coming onslaught.

    Well... I'm back, though not in the best of condition. Not anything physical, just time-squeezed and pressured from the play I was in that just ended and... well, Kain knows I've been upset, even if she isn't here at the moment, is she? But, yeah.. I'm kinda back...

    To alert the world, I've been talking with NS, and he thinks he might give up New Isle and give his fav. chars to me and some others, so... if anyone has a message for him, I talk to him just about every day...

    And, to GC... check the RIDER WEYRS! Elaini's back! And, if you don't mind, I assumed that she's been gone a LONG time... and with both kids. If you have anything wrong with that, please tell me there. I just wanted her back.

    Hi, everybody. B'nederra is thrilled to have been chosen as Wingleader, but I may not get a post up for a day or so. I have to construct my post carefully- and that will take time.

    As for news, I got off the phone with Deystar, like, fifteen minutes ago. maybe longer, I don't have a clock handy, and didn';t at the time of the call. She has a bit of a time problem, so that's why she hasn't been on a whole lot. And, she tells me, that Nitesun is having an actual computer problem. So, the two of them might not be active for- and indefinite eriod of time. Hopefull they'll come back.

    I've had ahectic- whatever it is. My sister had to go to the hospital, so I, of course, got to take care of my neices. I have three of them. I have spent to past week running after a pair of two year olds, and calming a six month old. Remind me again how old my sister is? Oh yeah, 21.
    So, I love Trisha, Keisha, and Natalie to death, but I'm just plain tired. So, that's why I haven't been active. Yes, I know perfectly well that L'nox Impressed Primath, rather than Riath. Hey, take a look at the posts, please? They were late at night, and I, for one, was tired. Then the call came about Gloria, and good old me had to rescue 'the girls'. Posting will resume post haste- and L'nox will be at the Hatching Feast in full regalia. With Primath, not Riath.

    The bad! My good compy had it's processor keel over on me last night and thus doesn't turn on. Processor is getting replaced tomorrow so that I should be back online officially on Tuesday night. I'm sorry guys, but my dad's old compy is so virused, low on memory, and has a terrible dial-up connection, that getting around Voy is really hard for me to do. I'm going to try, but I can't promise much when programs randomly keep closing and websites take a good 10 minutes to load a page.     Disaster Strikes



    For the first time during an Interval, Thread fell. No one was sure if what they saw was true or not, so many didn't run for cover. But for many, long hours, Thread fell upon all of Pern. First it destroyed the North, and then the South. Was it another type of Red Star? Or did the Red Star not follow its old orbit because of that meteor? No one knew the answers, but there wasn't any time to do so. In the rush to save the Hold people, every single dragonrider, even weyrlings, were ordered to each of the Holds. Boton, Weyrwoman of Fort, was only one of the large losses. It was disasterous, and the Hold people were left with nothing for food. The population had dropped by more than three quarters. Benden Weyr and High Reaches Weyr were the only Weyrs left that were able to support themselves. All the Hold people fit easily into the Weyrs, showing how many losses on each side. The Hold people immediately set out to rebuild the two Holds, as others worked on the Halls. Until then, everyone was split between the two Weyrs. Fort and Ista riders as well. Five golds were left to carry out the mission of bringing Galliv back together.

    Everyone forgot about the Clan and the Darq Weyr. Had they survived? But only a small amount of riders believed that they still were out there. If only there were more dragonriders, but everyone was needed. So the search was delayed and the group quieted down.




    Another Beginning



    Now after a second disaster, Galliv is struggling to its feet again. With everyone in only two Weyrs while the Holds and Halls are rebuilding, people fear Thread will fall again at any given time and without warning. Contant Watch Dragons are sent out to where each Hold and Hall is being built to alarm the wings if they are needed. What will become of Galliv? And are the Darq Riders still alive? What about the Clan and the forgotten Hold? Had the Darq Weyr planned this somehow? The Weyrs were beginning to break up into rumors, separating everyone into groups. As the Weyrleaders struggled to keep everything together, all anyone could wonder was: How would they survive?

    The members of KRPG are myself, Kitty, Kain, El, QoC, and whomever plays Thanatopsis. Six people, assuming one of the first five doesn't also play Thana.

    Is this really worth keeping a RPG for when most of these people are extremely busy outside the game and often have no time (or attitude, in some cases) to check the board, let alone to post?

    Unfair of me to question it now, when Kain and Kitty aren't here, but I know Kitty's opinion and I can hazard an accurate guess of Kain's.

    Does anyone really care if KRPG lives or dies?

    The members board has been updated and I'll be changing the Lost Souls Board in about two weeks. Why two weeks? Well, I'm heading out to New York for that period of time ^_^ While I'm gone, El has posting rights over T'bel (so the Weyrleader is there if you need him), but what I want the rest of you to do is get your Characters to the Hatching Feast. When I return from my music program, T'bel will announce his Weyrsecond, Wingsecond, Wing, and other Wingleaders who will then choose their own wingmembers. However, if your character is not there, and you don't have a good in or out of game reason for not being there, they will not have the chance to recieve a high-ranking position. So high-tail it over there, (you've got two whole weeks to walk over and mingle, I've faith in ya ^_~)

    If no one's replied to Massath's flight post by Wednesday (which will have been two weeks after the day I first posted it), can I go ahead and have one of my own dragons fly her? I don't want to hold up the flights for too long, and I have a rider who's essentially R'ven's "best friend with benefits", so while they agreed that Raskith wouldn't fly Massath anymore as people might get ideas, if S'kar and Raskith noticed that she actually wasn't getting chased, I'm sure they'd take pity on the poor girl.

    All Massath wants is to score some dragon tail, yo. And looking at the Active Check, I get the feeling that the problem MIGHT be that all the unattached riders aren't interested in guys, except for mine. And if that is the problem, well... it seems like the best solution.

    Of course, watch, I ask this and then on the next flight Z'ni and Jesaketh have the exact same problem....

    (If this belongs in the Wire, sorry, but I wasn't sure and thought it would be more easily spotted here.))

    First, I drew a map of the cave system. It's a very bad map, because I'm a very bad artist, but I did my best. If anyone sees something that NEEDS to be changed (especially Kitty, since she's got a map of the island and all), please tell me, but if it's a change you just WANT... well, the sharding thing took me nearly two hours to draw and I don't really want to re-do it for anything that's not important. -_-;; If you can't read my handwriting, I can erase the stuff on the white parts and replace it with computer text, but I found it readable. (Because it's my handwriting, which is why I'm not sure if everyone else will be able to.) I forgot to write it in, but the area past the rockfall is off-limits unless it's a training group with Yima (practicing going between through walls via heat signals, like Kisk, and they won't be going further than JUST beyond the rockfall), because the tunnel there is extremely unstable. Yima didn't get very far before deciding it was too unsafe to continue, which is why it trails off on the map. Only adult whers are allowed near the "back door" in case a wherry from the jungle decides to come visiting. And I decided not to draw the individual small caves, just do the dotted-line walls, so that I don't unintentionally limit the available space by making a set number of personal caves.

    ...Any questions?

    I also wanted to know how many potential handlers we have for Gysk's clutch. And if we have any more than the one just yet, they should probably come to the caves.

    And finally, I was wondering about watchwher clutching schedules and such. I didn't save the emails Pup and I threw back and forth on wher flights, but I believe we eventually decided that until canon gives us the watchwher mating process, it'd be a short nighttime flight, low in the sky, in which the actual mating takes place on the ground. Should somebody make a flight list? And will they fly in the Flight Air, or would Outside the Weyr work better? (I don't see the point in making a whole seperate board for what's currently such a small segment of the game population, though that might not be a bad idea further on when we have more.) Whatever the circumstances, I think we need another bronze (preferably adult), because Yimask needs to fly next. (Actually, since one green is about to clutch and the other is so old that I don't think she'll ever be flying again - she's edging up on 50 - Yimask is the only one who COULD fly next unless we get another adult green. Still.)

    All hatchlings will be updated in one fell swoop, sooo... never fear, I haven't forgotten you, I'm just going to add you as a whole to the members list (as technically the entire Hatching would all happen in a canon hour or less). So anywaaay. My life gets soooo much better on Weds, expect mass postage and updating ^_~

    .. we need to lay down rules about 'pets' in NIW. Here and now.

    It just seems to detract from the game. And after two shakes of a flit's tail, they're just gone. What happens to them after you Impress? People join with pets then never roleplay with them. I dunno, I just don't like it.

    I think that A) there should be a list of possible 'pets' and B) they should be included on the members page.

    For those of you anxiously waiting and posting...

    It will resume Monday (that's tomorrow! :B). Sorry guys, this week's been busy what with my doggy needing emergency surgery and other things and Voy having a love-hate relationship.

    So to reinstate, the hatching will resume Monday when the role of the countess will be sung by Miss Erika Lake. :P In the meantime, ladies and gentleman, please enjoy the ballet from act three of tonight's opera. Maestro! The ballet! Now!

    Has the thing with Ghys been sorted out - that is, has it been decided whether Ghysk is going to be pregnant or not? I'd sort of like to know, since a few of my longer-range plans for the WherHall sort of depend on the question. I don't know if a conclusion was reached before Kitty came back, or if it was still up in the air at the time - and if it was, it probably should be decided now, if only because Fat Friar deserves to be able to play her. She's going to have to stick her in the watchwher thread either egg-heavy or eggless, because with the whole "yay! births! babies!" thing that all the firelizard-derived critters have going on, not to mention the "seeing body heat" aspect of watchwhers, I think Yimask would KNOW as soon as Ghysk showed up whether she was preggers.

    And speaking of the watchwher thread, I bumped it up again. Kitty, do you think that I could make a seperate board for the watchwher caves? (I'm planning to have them be in a fair-sized cave system beneath NIW, because if nothing else the queens and greens will need their own clutching area, and I'd like to have seperate caves for the handler-wher pairs and such. I just can't see a group of watchwhers happily coexisting in one large cave - they strike me as too territorial for that.)
