It's an American holiday, though I understand some countries have something similar. Supposedly, Thanksgiving is sort of in rememberance of a feast the "first" colonists had with some Indians to celebrate a good harvest. Actual historical details are rather sketchy, though. Basically, it's a time to get together with your family and be thankful for all the good stuff that's happened over the year. It's a national holiday, the third (or fourth? I've never been quite clear on that) Thursday in November. The "traditional" meal is turkey, usually with mashed potatoes, dressing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie (or that's what you see on the table in most books and pictures, though customs vary - my maternal grandparents, for example, prefer to serve goose sandwiches, one of the more INTERESTING meals I've ever had). Different families have different traditions, large and small; I hear a lot about families who gather around the table and try to list everything they're thankful for, though my family's a lot less organized - we wander out of the den, sit down, and eat.

Anything I missed here, folks?
