Subject: The Brits (where I am at the moment) will always gleefully point out that on average, the US came into a World War about 3 years after everyone else, to claim the glory once Germany had already been "softened up"! They're very amused by all the Hollywood films that disregard any other country's contribution to these wars, especially U-571 which has the US capturing the Enigma code, not HMS Bulldog as in real life.

[> [> [> Yes they would, but clearly it would have taken longer. The unanswered (unanswerable?) question, though, is whether the wars would have ended earlier than 1918 and 1945 if the US had come in at the start. It's something the Brits would have liked very much; Churchill spent a lot of time trying to win over Roosevelt. -- Chris Henry, 14:12:45 04/20/03 Sun (NoHost/82.47.215.137)

[> [> [> [> Chris, the US did help bring an end to WW II and defeat the Nazi and Musollini. Try as you will you can not deny that. Hitler did make the same mistake as Napolean did when he tried to march on Moscow during the winter so he did make a tactical error. Nevertheless do you remember what took place at Normandy and "D" day? Thousands of US soldiers and other allied soldiers died invading that day which eventually led to the liberation of France and the defeat of Germany. The US does deserve praise for saving France, Russia, and others. Without the US, Hitler would most likely have won. -- William, 20:22:13 04/20/03 Sun (cache-dl04.proxy.aol.com/205.188.209.40)

[> [> [> [> [> I absolutely agree with your first sentence - that's what I said in my posting above, I certainly didn't deny it. Last sentence? Hmmm, I would debate that, although the war would certainly have lasted longer. -- Chris Henry, 04:39:45 04/21/03 Mon (NoHost/82.47.215.137)

[> [> British and Russian contributions are well documented and both fought valiantly but are you saying you think they could have defeated the Germans without the US help? -- Chez, 08:03:05 04/20/03 Sun (06-154.002.popsite.net/64.24.18.154)
