This is an interesting discussion! I had always assumed that the Waltons were doing pretty well for themselves BEFORE the depression, and that they had collected stuff for GENERATIONS- which is why their house is so full. I know that my Grandmother, who was born right before the depression hit, has a ton of stuff from her Mother, her Grandmother, and even her Great-grandmother who came to the U.S. from Switzerland! I think people were better at keeping their valuables clean and nice and unbroken than we are today. In fact, my Grandmother has a set of drawers at home that are full of old quilts wrapped up in plastic to keep them from wearing!

Also, to have a mountain NAMED after your family? Someone had money once upon a time in the Walton's clan!
