Classic Cruise News!
April 7, 2011

Niftee 50ees Classic Drive In is officially open for the 2011 season and a wonderful turn out was on hand on the opening night.

A few frustrations with temporary parking but as the dust settled we were able to bring rodders more into the event area to be a part of the show.

As we all know the opener show is pretty hectic and we wanted to extend our gratitude to all of our rodders for their patience as we tried to get everyone out of harms way and into temporary parking during the Tsunami of cars!!

Our thanks to Leigh Ann and all the volunteer girls from Bailey's Restaurant for their support in greeting our rodders and taking collections.

As always a great big thank you to our ongoing volunteers who help us each and every week to see that Niftee 50ees keeps going.

We cannot say enough for our dedicated people who tirelessly give their time each weekend.

We hope everyone enjoyed our opener and we look forward to seeing you again next Saturday evening.

Our season runs April 2, thru November 12, 2011

Niftee 50ees future things..

In the near future our newsletters will be posted to the web site instead of general mail outs as we do presently.

The reason is all the kick backs of invalid email addresses that never get updated when a subscriber changes his or her address and failure to notify us.

We are slammed with Mailer Damon undeliverable addresses and with over 1800 subscribers it takes us two days to get all the mail out.

Some company addresses you have given us will not accept the emails and therefore is returned to us and reported as SPAM.

We will notify everyone as we make progress and will notify everyone when this takes place.

Coming soon
You will go to the web site and read the newsletter.

With all that said, our web site will also change.

We know this sounds like a repeat Radio Station that plays the same 40 songs over and over and news with our web site is no different.

We have been talking about a change for some time but with disappointing results it was put on hold.

However, I think we have made some progress with a designer that should be able to design the site the way we want and to better serve you.

We won't hold our breath but things hopefully will fall into place before too long.

In the meantime, there are blue skies ahead.

Another item we are considering to remove is the "Cars for Sale" section which is another service that remains abused.

With Craig's List and hundreds of other services we feel most of the rodders go there to look or sale cars.

Additionally we are seldom notified by the owners after they have sold their vehicle to remove from the site.

To summon up everything we would like your feedback on these subjects mentioned and for any additional ideas you would perhaps like to see.

The web site maintenance in itself takes hours of time to upload, delete, change, post and also change as a free service.

Newsletters are also time consuming.

Your feedback is needed here also.

Is once a month plenty?

With all that we have to do with keeping up with Niftee 50ees we feel that a tune up is in order.

The web site right now is our priority.

More items coming..

Have a good weekend and please drive safely.

Happy Roddin!

Classic Cruise News!
March 29, 2011

Fellow Street Rodders,

We hope everyone has gotten off to a wonderful spring season and have enjoyed the kick offs to many events that have already come and gone.

Our appreciation to those that attended our Spring opener at Vintage Park on March 6, 2011 although we had to postpone the event to Sunday at the last minute due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Our thanks to Bob Wright who gave his time to lend a helping hand for the event and all of our faithful volunteers who made it happen.

Thanks to Carl Schulty of Competition Sales in rounding up many of the exhibitors.

The Retro Ride Classic 500 is now down in the history books.

Navasota Vintage Drags

Our contributing efforts to bring fun for the vintage drags at Navasota was a combined effort from Chet Beatty and other vintage gear heads to offer an additional fun event for many.

We hope you enjoyed the gathering and hopefully we have gained some experience in the first ever attempt.

Your feedback is always welcome.

Over the seasons we have received feedback from many to try and bring a few new things to our rodders as to entertainment with their street rods.

Many legendary dragsters and drivers were on hand for the event and a fresh change in the normal activities was experienced.

Although there are many improvements to consider and improve upon, we hope everyone enjoyed.

Niftee 50ees Classic Drive In

It is now official as we will be opening the 2011 at Kroger's on Spring Cypress on Saturday night, April 2, 2011.

Our lease this year will begin Saturday, April 2, and will conclude on Saturday, November 12, 2011.

A total of 33 weeks are scheduled weather permitting.

We appreciate everyone's patience over the weeks but, before any shows can proceed there must be proper paper work completed and approved before car shows can open.

As with each year a few changes have taken place that will require everyone's cooperation in helping us maintain our lease agreement.

We are looking for a fairly large turnout for the seasonal opener and request that everyone be patient, and work with us with parking as you have in the past.

Please be alert and aware of your surroundings as you arrive and depart from the event area.

Be on the look out for pedestrians, children and fellow rodders while visiting the show.

Designated coned off areas for tenant parking will be in effect until the businesses close therefore must be reserved for their customers.

After the businesses close then we can move the cones back for additional parking for the rodders.

We do appreciate everyone's attendance over the past 6 years and our goal to provide our classic car owners a menu of family fun and net working with fellow rodders.

We do kindly ask that our participants arrive at the proper show time to avoid crowding the tenants designated parking before they close.

Arrivals should be between 6:00 - 6:30 pm

Although we have obtained a lease we must maintain minimum parking for the established businesses during their business hours.

Upon arrival you will be asked for your entry fee of $5.00 before entering the coned area and will be collected by the girls at each entrance location.

Please have your $5.00 ready so that we do not create a bottle neck of cars stacked up due to someone needing change.

Please have the correct amount ready.

We suggest putting a Lincoln ( $5.00 ) on your sun visor for quick entry for the girls accepting your fee.

Some request from Street Rodders

Those street rodders who wish to pay for a seasonal pass in advance who attend on a frequent basis can obtain a pass for the entire 33 weeks of the season for $150.00 per parking space.

We are offering three ( 3 ) weeks at NO charge and is non refundable due to rain outs.

This means you pay for 30 weeks and three ( 3 ) floaters or a discount for advance payment.

It is not mandatory but some have requested a yearly pass.

If you wish to make one payment then please present us with a check made payable to: Niftee 50ees in the amount of $150.00

Do not make payable to Randy or Molly Shannon

Please include your car registration number on the check

All funds collected go to Niftee 50ees for it's operational cost, promotions, exhibits, maintenance, security and business needs for the cause to provide the necessary expenditures of it's events.

Thank You!

Please be aware that some construction is taking place for new tenants moving in the old Schilleci's lease space.

Tutti Frutti's will be the new tenant and is excited to open the doors for the street rodders coming sometime in late April.

Although some minor inconvenience for the beginning of our start date, the establishment will be a welcome treat to many once it opens.

Last year Maxx Tan closed it's doors and now Message Envy has expanded it's lease area for more space.

All in all it has been a very trying year on our end to maintain a gathering place for our street rodders with some of the changes taking place.

We ask all of our participants to respect our guidelines and for those who support and appreciate Niftee 50ees efforts we welcome you.

We are a family show most importantly, and secondly here to support Niftee 50ees cause for continued exhibitions for those who love their classic rides at a minimum cost as we can possibly afford.

We do understand everyone's concerns with the present economy and we also feel the effects with operational cost as well.

May you have a wonderful season of Street Rod fun!

We will have much more information in the weeks to come but for now our seasonal cruise nights are upon us and we have much to do.

Our apologies for the slack in communication but we hope to improve as we move forward as we have a lot on our plates and quite frankly it has been an exhausting year.

Hope to see everyone very soon and please drive safely.

Randy Shannon

Niftee 50ees
Classic Cruise News!

February 14, 2011

Happy Valentine's Day!

Fellow Rodders,

February reminds us that winter is here but just around the corner the warm weather will soon follow.

Car shows are everywhere in the coming weeks with many on the same dates.

All we can say is pick one or several and plan on attending.

Plans for the "Retro Ride Classic 500" is still on schedule for our Spring opener show at Vintage Park on Saturday, March 5, 2011.

Our final meeting with the property management will be sometime next week to secure our lease and documentation's for this event and to finalize our parking arrangements.

We hope the weather will work with us for another season of fun.

We are including a link to the Vintage Park location for those not familiar with the area and how to get there.

Click here >> http://www.mapquest.com/?le=t&q=262677749+type%3Amqid&ICID=mq_localoneclick&flv=1&vs=&__aolrel=1296918757455

Vintage Park Web Site >> http://www.vintageparkhouston.com/photogallery?album=4&gallery=4

Plenty of shopping for the ladies and many restaurants at Vintage Park to enjoy as well as kid activities.

The Retro Ride Classic 500 will be open to Classic Street Rods, Hot Rods, Cruisers and Classic Muscle Cars Pre 1980 or in other words 1979 and under in production years only!

Commemorative T-shirts, Niftee 50ees caps, hand bags available

Exhibitors will be there also for updated Hot Rod Products

We would like to thank Carl Schulty and staff of Competition Sales for their help in gathering the exhibitors for this event!

Admission $10 per car

To secure our event for this location is rather costly but the premises present us with a great venue of food and parking.

Our Spring opener shows help jump start us for a new season and also allows us to make contributions each year to worthy causes as we see worthy.

Last year 50% of proceeds went to scholarship funds for Lone Star College.

As with every Spring opener, this years' event will help support our troops.

It is our way of recognizing young men and women serving our country who face harms way every minute while preserving our freedom and serving these United States.

In some small way we want to brighten their day and also say thanks for their service.

If all goes well and weather permitting we should have a huge turnout!

Vintage Park and Niftee 50ees will accommodate one of the largest Classic Car Gatherings in Houston.

A reminder that all entries will park in the designated exhibit area and NO Parking in any Handicap marked parking areas unless you have a permit.

All entrants must sign a waiver for rights to participate.

Niftee 50ees in cooperation with the Holiday Inn Express is offering out of town guest or those that wish to be close to the event on Saturday morning a special Niftee 50ees discount for overnight lodging.

We chose this location due to it's modern and very pleasant atmosphere but most importantly for it's secured gated parking for those with trailers and or rigs.

This gated parking can only be entered or exited by your personal gate pass.
It is also secured with cameras and on site security.

Secondly, a full course breakfast buffet ( not continental ) is included with your stay and most importantly the cost has been cut in half!

The Niftee 50ees special fare is only $69.50 plus tax

The Holiday In Express is located approximately 2 miles from Vintage Park

Holiday In Express

Houston, TX 77070
Phone: 281-970-4888
Fax: 281-970-4848

Ask for the Niftee 50ees special.

Reservations will be accepted after February 15, 2011

In addition, this discounted rate applies to our regular season throughout the year and includes visits to our weekly events at Kroger's as well.

The Holiday Inn Express is approximately 5 miles from our weekly shows!

To all of our out of town visitors and or across town participants, you now have a special rate for overnight accommodations at a Niftee 50ees special rate!

We have listened to our rodders and now pleased to offer the additional conveniences.

Niftee 50ees is proud of our of dedicated street rodders that have supported our efforts to give you not only the recognition you deserve, but the best we can possibly offer in entertainment events.

We may not have succeeded in all areas but we have given our best efforts and yet tried to keep the expenses down to a minimum.

Vintage Park is located at the following address:

Vintage Park
10805 Louetta Rd.
( just east of Tomball Pkwy Hwy 249 )
Houston, TX 77070

( Approximately 2 1/2 miles from Kroger's weekly events )

We hope to see many classic street rodders at Vintage Park!

Nostalgic Drags and Show Day / Navasota Raceway

March 13, 2011 will bring hundreds to Navasota Raceway for a day of fun reflecting the nostalgic memories of the front end dragsters and hot rods accompanied by the racing legends themselves.

Expected dragsters from Houston, Dallas, Victoria and other areas of the state to participate in this nostalgic assembly of "Old School" drag racers and fellow hot rodders.

Cackle Fest, Grudge matches, plus much more!

Good times for the entire family, bring cameras

Niftee 50ees will be there with the oldies tunes to add to the days of old!

Before we go..

We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding over the past few weeks for our failure to get the news out on a more timely manor.

In all honesty, we have been buried with chores and duties to try and get the new year off to another season.

We hope everyone has a successful Hot Rod season of fun in the coming weeks ahead but more importantly a safe one!

Many events are scheduled so there is no excuse to miss out on the fun!

Our 7th year at Kroger's will soon be at hand and we will have additional information on the new season coming soon.

We must get Vintage Park behind us for now.

Our very last comment to everyone is the changes Molly and I have adopted from here on out for our New Year Resolutions.

1) Change all the light bulbs in the house to 25 watt bulbs..

2) Remove all the mirrors in the house.

Not only will we preserve energy with the lower wattage bulbs..

It will allow us to think young without the mirror telling us differently.. and the low wattage bulbs will certainly help out with that as well...

Happy Roddin!

My '32 Roadster was stolen last nite (1/30/2011) from the parking lot
of the Sheraton hotel at the LA County Fairplex. I was attending the

and aluminum paneled interior. California license number BERBNZ. (Bare

There's plenty of distinguishing characteristics on this car which make
it unmistakable. I've included some photos. If someone is offering you

If street class doesn't have a minimum of 8 entries then they can either pay $10 more to run with bracket cars or get $10 back and only T&T
End of year track points champion and points runner up will receive a one time bonus of $250/100 ($350 purse)

The season will consist of between 12 and 16 races. There will be a minimum of 2 scheduled races per month for spring and fall (Mar, Apr, May, Jun, Sep, Oct) and 1 race each in July and August. In the event of rainouts, the track will attempt to reschedule the race.

Entry into the points fund will require a $20 one time yearly buy in per driver.

With points fund the driver will be assigned a number to use at each bracket race.

Points go with driver not the car.

There will be an end of year racer appreciation race for the bracket and street class. Anyone who holds a points card gets free entry into bracket race (have to pay $10 gate entry fee).

Bracket/street points will be given as follows: 20 points to take light in first round and 10 points for each round win.

Each class will be given a minimum of 2 time trials. Depending on time constraints a third time trial may be available.

Each class will be called to the lanes individually for time trials and eliminations

A card draw system will be used to pair cars for eliminations. In the event of an odd number of cars in the lanes for the first round, one of the cars on the front row will receive the bye (the car in the lane of the first card selected each round will get the bye). The bye recipient will be taken out of the lanes, the cards will be shuffled and the card draw will proceed. Reaction times will be used to select buy runs for all other rounds.

Each car is only allowed one bye during eliminations (this excludes competition singles due to breakage or no-shows)

Street cars shall have current inspection, registration and DOT approved tires. Proof of insurance can be substituted for inspection/registration for classic cars. Drag radials will be allowed. Foot brake only, no transbrake use allowed in the street class.

You must have your dial in clearly marked on your windshield and the passenger side of the car before you enter the water box. Reasonable exceptions will be allowed for motorcycle, altered and rail cars but it is the responsibility of the driver to make sure the track operator is aware of their dial-in.

No electronics controlling devices other than RPM activated automatic shifters and nitrous controllers are allowed in the bracket class.

Transbrake use allowed in bracket class.

No driver can drive 2 cars in the same class.

A driver cannot swap cars after eliminations have started.

Congratulations on the great turnout for your Nostalgia Days event.

I believe you could have at least two of these per year.

I would like to suggest you look at the ANRA, The American Nostalgia Racing Association, (out of California)and consider adopting their classes as a way to move to some kind of standardization of class indexes,

On a sadder note..

We were recently informed that former Niftee 50ees cruiser Sam Stahl passed away Wednesday night from causes unknown.

Sam attended our events on frequent basis and drove the very nice 58 Chevy convertible ( powder blue ) and also performed at our 2009 Halloween show as a Blues Brother.

Sam did not attend any events as we recall for the 2010 season.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the family and friends of Sam Stahl.

His participation will be greatly missed.

Niftee 50ees
Classic Cruise News!

November 11, 2010
by: Randy Shannon / Molly Shannon

We take this opportunity to say farewell from Kroger's as we wind down the Saturday night cruise in for another season.

We will watch the weather and hope we can end the season with a fellowship farewell to our faithful followers and participants.

It has been a challenging and tiring season but another year of fun at Kroger's must end.

Our lease will expire 11:59 am Saturday night, November 13, 2010.

The AutoRama fans will get ready for another year to kick off on the Thanksgiving weekend. We hope you will support Steve and his staff as they bring you a continued showing of this great event at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

On December 4, 2010, Niftee 50ees is scheduled to host an event at the Room Store on I-10.

We will keep you posted and informed in coming days.

Over the past month we have received over 758 emails from fans from all states and mostly local so, you can see we have been busy.

I wanted to take a moment to recognize our loyal volunteers who have successfully kept Niftee 50ees running for another week.

They too are tired and would like a break from the weekly ordeal of setting up, tearing down, and attending faithfully each week to make sure our street rodders have a place to enjoy.

They are wonderful people!

Our sympathy goes to one of our faithful volunteers, David Smith who lost his Father this past week.

Our prayers and support goes to David and his family with such a tragic loss.

Again, thanks to all of our street rodders, their families and friends for another great year at Niftee 50ees Classic Drive In.

We will be in touch as we get ready for another planned exciting year of fun!
