Niftee50ees
Classic Cruise News!
July 15, 2009

Whew!
The temperatures have been hot during the past few weeks, grass is turning yellow, sweat is an ever present reminder of the dog days of summer in Houston's humid climate!

With all that said and no one needed a reminder, we welcome everyone to our midsummer nights dream cruise in!

Classic cars braved the climbing mercury and showed in force this past weekend after the July 4th holidays and everything seemed to be back to normal as rodders arrived and discussed the old days, pulled out the lawn chairs, grabbed a bite and a cool beverage and enjoyed another Saturday night under the lights at Niftee50ees.

Visitors from Conroe and the Woodlands were present and we welcomed their visits as Molly and I saw some old school friends from Mac Arthur High School. It was nice seeing Debbie and Harvey Dowell that we haven't seen in a while.
Thanks for visiting!

Ray Withrow from Hot Rod Chat arrived and was busy visiting with fellow classic street rodders in attendance. Didn't see Amy unless I just missed her somehow in all the chaos.
Sorry, Amy..

Molly tells me to lighten up!

I think it is time I apologize for all the craziness exhibited over the past few weeks and maybe months at the shows, as extra duties have taken much of my time. To stop and visit with anyone if at all, is rather brief and sometimes blunt it seems.

It's not unusual to see me walk off in the midst of a conversation after someone is paging me on the radio. There needs to be 3 of me at any given time.

It is not my nature to ignore anyone or stop the conversation short but, it seems as though I am needed somewhere on the parking lot all during the show time and my acknowledgments may seem brief or even inconsiderate at times which I apologize to all.

I wish I could spend my time mingling and socializing in a more relaxed atmosphere. As time goes on, I see that almost all my time is spent dealing with questions, concerns, parking, upcoming events and other necessary details of the show.

I miss talking with all of you and perhaps somehow, I can get situated long enough one of these days to have the opportunity to stop and visit.

It has been brought to my attention that many think I am upset or mad about something. Not the case, just a lot of responsibility on my shoulders folks.

So, my closing statement on this subject, I ask that you continue to enjoy the show, forgive me if I appear rude, and remember I am happy you chose to attend Niftee50ees on a Saturday evening in what I hope you'll find as a fun spot to enjoy.

To make sure we provide the best show possible, it does take a bit of effort and tunnel vision for me to stay focused on the task at hand.

We love our street rodders and wish you the best in a fun filled Saturday night.

Please ignore any stress I may exhibit.

If I seem too busy, catch up with Molly and I will surely hear about it during pillow talk!

In all honesty, we have been rather light with help and when someone is missing, we do feel the void.

The shows will go on however to the best of our abilities.

Thank You in advance and do enjoy the facilities we are so lucky to have each and every Saturday evening. We do our best to make sure we have a safe, secure and clean event area. The days are long and the heat is up!

On another subject..

Thanks to all who responded to our last email as to the summer months shows.

We will take in consideration all of your thoughts and see if we can adjust our show schedule.

We reviewed other feedback forums from our archives and found that many were concerned with the weather being too COLD in the earlier months of the season and once again, left early when the sun went down or did not show until it warmed up.

Oh well..

I can only recommend our rodders to carry jackets in their street rods in the cooler months but I don't suggest we strip down to our birthday suits in the summer months.

That would surely cause some concerns with the property management I'm afraid.

I do suggest that all of our die hard rodders go inside a climate control restaurant during the extremes to either warm up or cool off when necessary.

Whether you are at home or out enjoying yourself, we all need to pay attention to heat and take care of ourselves by hydrating or moving to the coolness of indoors.

If I had to choose one or the other condition, I guess I would have to stay with the warm side of things because cold weather is not my thing.

Classic Cruise News!
June 24, 2009

Fellow Street Rodders, the heat is on!

We welcome all the new subscribers to the newsletter that recently signed up this week including those from Australia, Germany, and Sweden!

Well, we have some from the USA also, so to all of you, welcome aboard!

The heat on the parking lot must have been 150 degrees the past two weekends as we arrived around 2:00pm to start setting up for the event.

I couldn't keep a dry shirt on during the set up time and was wondering just how hot the sun must be to exert that much heat.

I have often wondered what a piston felt like in a Alky Fuel Dragster!

After the blast from the heat, a cool breeze came along later in the evening to make the night a little more enjoyable for the Drive In and what a treat!

We will be back this weekend to do it all over again.

We have some friends from the Chevelle Club hosting a benefit show for a good cause this Sunday.

We apologize for the interference show that we have scheduled also but hopefully will not affect their showing for their planned event.

Unfortunately, we didn't get the news in time to reschedule our planned event and not knowing it would be on the same date as Sunday, June 28.

Please support them with what you can and we will see what we can do to help out as well.

Houston Chevelle Club

Greetings Niftee50ees Team,

My name is Eric Christie and I am the Vice President of the Houston Chevelle Club. One of our club members has a terminally ill family member, so we are having a benefit to help out.

Would you be so kind as to post the attached flyer on your web site and pass the word along. As with all benefits, it is for a good cause. We would like to have other groups or clubs participate as well. It is short notice, but we need to help out as quickly as we can.

Please contact me if you have questions, comments or suggestions.

Thank you,
E

Really don't have much to touch on other then it’s HOT and getting HOTTER!

FYI I was just informed by a reliable source that if you don't have someone in your address book that you would like to receive e-mails from, the chances of them being SPAMED is almost a certainty! This is just one of several, that could cause you a problem.

Some servers are more sensitive then others. So, with that said, just make sure you have the screen name of Niftee50ees and mine in your address book to keep from agitating any further problems with your computer.

Week eight -- again 200+ vehicles, warm but nice weather with

the coffee mugs from the lovely (bikini clad) ladies of Hooters.
For those that did not get one, keep coming out, you never know
what like surprises will happen. We are working with management
to come up with several different things for the up coming Saturdays
but nothing is finales,so can't give any details at this time. A very
special THANKS to Magic ( Click here: Magic Pinstriping ) for the signs he
made up. You will see them out next Saturday. We have one item we need everyone's help with and that is alcohol. We had ask several people (mostly spectators) to get rid of their drinks. If you see someone drinking, please ask them to get rid of it or come find one of us to do it.
Alcohol on the lot is one thing that will get shut down real quick. Thanks in advance for your help.
Keep it save and hope to see all next week.

Niftee50ees Classic Drive In
By: Randy Shannon

The final two weeks of June cruise nights are approaching and our invitation to all the classic cars 1979 and under are invited.

Our efforts are to patronize the mid-century production cars of yesterday, to relive the days of Classic America, and to display the cars we all loved and drove in a simple time.

Memories of our High School days, the Drive Ins, the Drag Strip, or any number of places are reflected of those days.

We still love our cars and the socializing with one another as reflections of those days are once again captured at our cruise nights at Niftee50ees each weekend.

We wish everyone a great time and to remember to enjoy for as long as you can and as often as you can for the days roll on rather quickly it seems.

We are in our 5th year at Kroger's as we have seen nearly 3,000 different cars over the years that have at one time registered or visited our events according to our register.

With this busy world we live in we ask all Street Rodders to inspect your vehicle and make sure all mechanical aspects of your ride is in great working order when driving or participating at any event. In addition, please drive safely and know your surroundings at all times.

As most of you have heard, a fellow Street Rodder was fatally injured last weekend after attending a local car show.

It is sad to hear such news and our thoughts and prayers go to those in the immediate family and also friends of the deceased.

To the survivors of the accident we wish a speedy recovery.

Details here >> 1929 Roadster Accident

Thanks to all of our readers and followers for sending us the information as it is posted in several locations on the web.

Let's not forget those that have departed our world of Street Rodding.

Be aware of your surroundings!

It was brought to our attention late last week that one of our fellow rodders was minding his on business at a traffic light when two un suspected gunmen surrounded him and then left him stranded after stealing his car at the intersection at GUN Point!

What you ask is becoming of our world??

There are some real loose screws out there and working for a living is not in their vocabulary. Instead, steal from those who work hard to enjoy some of the simple things in life!

We hate thieves with their actions to take from those that simply want to enjoy life and their Street Rods.

Please make sure you are prepared to take any action you can and avoid getting into these situations if at all possible.

This took place somewhere off Hwy 6 and the thugs made off with a very nice Chevelle.

Moving On..

Niftee50ees has been asked to host an exhibition show at the Room Store on I-10 on Sunday, June 28, 2009.

Show Time 11am to 2pm
open to ALL Classic Cars 1979 and under

Our plans are to wrap up the show and head over to the 59 Diner on I-10 for a Malt ..right after the event.

We need 80 to 100 Classic cars!!

We will have more accurate details coming as soon as we have all the exact information on such a short notice.

This would be a good invite for our rodders near Hwy 6 and Katy areas to come join us.

Good time oldies, secured parking and food provided with other items as well.

This is a fun run and exhibition show folks!

ONE HOT SATURDAY June 13th.
The Grand Opening of Classic Chevrolet at ALT 90 & US 59 was a huge success with Free entry, Food, Drinks, , & Trophies. A job well done by management, it brought out the best of the best Classic Chevrolet Cars & Trucks.

I think they kinda listened to Jim Meader, show coordinator for Pattison Car Shows, who volunteered his helpful input for this show. The only thing is, it was HOTTER THEN OLD ROAD LIZARD!!!

Thought I was being smart by putting my car under this huge Circus Tent that the dealership had set up. WRONG, it was like an oven inside, only air circulation you could feel was to get close to the edge of the tent.

Also, it wasn't the best for taking pictures, with the red & blue from the tent shining down from the sun on the cars. You will see what I mean after looking at the pictures I have below. All in All, it was an exceptional day for ALL classic Chevrolet owners to get together for kicking tires (with red hub caps) "inside joke"and reminiscing about old times. With the coming and going of cars I would guess their had to be close 150 cars. Enjoy the pictures below of the show, and read Fred's little write up about Hooters Cruise Night.

Week seven -- another great cruise-in, good weather and 200+ vehicles. Things went smoother this week, I believe people are getting the hang of it. Still a few people that have not understood
that if we do not pay any attention to the lines and park straight, we can get more vehicles in each row. Again thanks to all that helped out. We had one of the crew out of state and both Robin
and I have a banged up foot, so the help was greatly needed. A special thanks to Rob and Kim as they took over keeping the parking area for the Room Store clear. Took a lot off load of me
and gave me more time on other things.

By the way, Rob has put together a Friday night cruise-in in Deer Park that I will be helping with now. If any one is interested in coming to a Friday night
cruise-in, E-Mail me and I will get you the location (look below).
Keep it safe and hope to see all out next week.

A NEW Friday night cruise-in Deer Park at the Faithbridge Church, 4711 Center Street. It is at the corner of Spencer and Center, From Spencer it is behind the Burger King and Shell station. From Center towards Spencer it is justpast Luby's rest. Time is 6:00 to 10:00 pm The Pastor is an old car guy and has given the okay for us to meet. Of course this is a church parking lot so no Alcohol allowed!!

It was all I could do to with the cones and getting people parked.Sorry. Hopefully I'll be better by next week.

Hot August Weekend

Our Double Header weekend will include a Double Night of Fun!

Friday night, August 7, 2009 we will be at the 4th Annual Lowe's Friday night Cruise In!

The parking lot will again be filled with classic street rods to kick off a two night weekend of fun.

Saturday night, August 8, 2009 we will return to Kroger's for our normal Saturday night event as scheduled.

Last year, visitors from San Antonio attended both events and expect many others this year for the two night blow out!

South Houston News

This last weekend was exceptionally nice for car shows but we are getting close to
running out of comfortable and cool Car Show weekends for us here in the south.
I didn't make any cars shows, but did cruise over to the Texas City FunFest. Their
were about 50 plus cars & trucks in attendance for everyone to enjoy while eating BBQ
from the annual Cook Off and other activities in the park. I've included a link to the pictures below! I left there and intended on going to Hooters on I-45, but just couldn'tturn the steering wheel to the north at I-45. Thanks to Fred Anthony for the write up of whattook place at Hooters, and a special thanks to Robin French for her pictures. Looks likewe have found us a new home for our Cruise Night's here south of Houston, now comes
the hard part, "KEEPING IT". Not all that hard if everyone works together!!! Before I
get to wound up, I want to wish y'all a great week, and safe cruisin' next Sat. & Sun.

CRUISE IN AT HOOTERS
by Fred Anthony May 6th.

Hooter's Saturday night cruise-in!
The sixth week and all I can say is "WOW", good weather, 250+ vehicles
and 11 rows filled. A special thanks to all the people that helped move cones
and put them back to let cars in & out. The extra trash cans seemed to help
as the site looked much better when we left last night. I would like to apologize
to all the people and friends I did not get a chance to talk to last night. But
honestly, you people had this old man running to get everyone parked. We
had a request and I mean a request, not a compliant from the management of
the Room Store to leave 10 to 15 parking spaces in front of their store open
until they close. Most people I had to ask not to park or to move from these
spaces understood and cooperated and moved, some did not want to.
Everyone has to understand we have to keep the store owners happy to make
this work. To all of you that talked to me and made suggestion on how to make
our cruise-in better, I did listen. The main idea people wanted was more lanes
blocked off and I agree it would help. The problem though is we do not have the
manpower or equipment to block off more than the three lanes we block off now.
Hope the rest of every ones weekend goes well and look forward to seeing all of
you next Saturday.
!!! NEWS FLASH!!! We met with David, general manager of Hooters, before the
night got started and July 3rd we are going to have a pre-4th of July Friday night
cruise-in and party. Hooters is going to provide the Wings and the Ladies, we need
to provide the cars and people. Hope all can make it.
