Date Posted: Saturday, May 10, 08:04:11pm In reply to: alf corbyn 's message, "DOCKERS?." on Wednesday, May 07, 01:01:00pm Perhaps it's more to do with a social philosophy than any specific action by any given group. Dockers have been blamed for the collapse of the docks, the MN, the whole shebang. Possibly the '66 seamans strike triggered a government defensive, anti dependancy, attitude similar to the anti-miners concept, which resulted in repeated long term negative decisions which in turn accelerated the whole demise. The generally obstructive, destructive, anti-development philosophy within the trades union movement of the 60's and 70's almost certainly undermined far more than it created. But there were outside influences and developments which conspired to make the whole result probably, certainly, unavoidable. Best we can say is that it is probably unfair to blame any one group or factor - although we could perhaps expect a great deal more forethought and intelligence from the government, who are, allegedly, on our side - regardless of party !
