Click on the ruler in the tool bar, that's the one to the left of the white envelope. You will get a small box , move it to miles or whatever. Type in search box, for example Southampton, click on the milage box and your pointer will change to a square, place this on Southampton, then bring your pointer over to where you typed Southampton, [a yellow line will follow it pay no notice] drag your pointer across Southampton and hit the backspace to get rid of it. then type in New York, click the spyglass and as the world revolves to New York a yellow line will follow it, in the little box on New York it will give you the miles traveled.
