Date Posted: Sunday, March 09, 11:46:08pm In reply to: Gus 's message, "Mad as hell and not gonna take any more" on Wednesday, February 06, 03:52:45pm The Parable of the Pigs in the Forest Once, long ago, far away, an old farmer lived on the edge of a large forest. Within the forest, there lived a herd of wild pigs. The farmer wished to catch these pigs and domesticate them, but the pigs were wild and free and impossible to catch. Try as he might the farmer found it impossible to catch and domesticate the pigs, for the pigs were wild and free and had the whole of the forest to roam within. So, the farmer hatched a plan. In a well chosen spot he laid a liberal scattering of the pig’s favourite food. At first the pigs were suspicious, but in time they became used to the supply of food, accepted it, ate it and returned for more. In time, it became normal. So, the farmer built a small line of fencing. At first this frightened the pigs, for they were wild and free and had the whole of the forest to roam within. But in time they accepted it as normal and returned to eat the food. So, the farmer built a second line of fencing, and then a third At first these fences frightened the pigs, but in time they accepted them as normal and returned to eat the food. So the farmer built a fourth and final fence line within which was an open gate. In time the pigs accepted it as normal and returned to eat the free food. The farmer simply closed the gate. In time the pigs accepted it as normal, even when the farmer reduced the food supply to meagre scraps. In time, the pigs forgot that they were once wild and free and had the whole of the forest to roam within. In time, the forest became a place to fear, inhabited by wild and free beasts; and a strange unruly creature called “Freedom” whom they feared most of all. +++++++++++++++ Moral : There is no such thing as a free lunch, there is a thing called freedom, but it is a thing to be cherished, it is not a thing to be feared.
