Date Posted: Wednesday, March 19, 07:23:45pm In reply to: Alanj 's message, "Petrol" on Sunday, February 03, 01:08:26pm During WW2 my dear old grandfather ran an Austin 7 on paraffin in the highways and byways of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. It produced such copious clouds of black smoke that, had the technology been available, the fumes could probably have been seen from the Moon! He had a bakery business and made the best lardy cakes the world has ever known, along with chelsea buns, and the yanks, who were billeted in the nearby forests used to queue up at the bakery at 6.00am so as not to miss their ration. I've long thought that if I had got him to show me how he made them I'd have become a millionaire decades ago. cheers tony cooke [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
