GOOD NEWS!!!...Time to Kick The Tires & Light The Fires!!!!....Our insiders at the city have reported that a contract has been signed with Freddy Cruz for the Edinburg Racetrack!!!....Finally the speculation can stop and we can move forward. From what we hear, Freddy has already contacted Julio and they are going to work out a deal for the racetrack equipment. Freddy buying the current equipment is the cheapest and best option. It is also the fastest option since Freddy will be able to concentrate on making improvements rather than just getting the track operational again. Start putting those monsters together, clean them up and get ready for battle. And remember, you read about it here first. On the Fastest Website In South Texas.....TEXASDRAGRACING.COM!!!....

If you weren't aware...a very similar thing happened to a cycling club in mission. The city wanted to use the land for a different purpose and the club members banded together in public protest...they attended meetings and made their presence known. What we need is a personal, professional, family friendly response from the local racers. I'm not talking about this public display of ignorance I've been reading from some lately. THATS EMBARASSING!!! The attitudes, language, and fault finding I've been reading on some recent posts isn't a fair representation of the "local racers" I've met....I've met firemen, business owners, border patrol agents, local racers that contribute to local economy. Here is my suggestion.... Any racer that can bring your car, trailer, and BBQ pits and setup right in front of the city hall. Make it an all day event and get a local news station to be there interviewing and make a good representation of the "real local racer". This is just my humble opinion.....kent p.s. To the haters 1. I put my name. 2. I'm a local racer "new car in progress" 3. I can write a sentence without every other word being $@#*%.

Lastly thank you Mr. Cruz for your love of racing. The track was always a fun, safe place that I enjoyed greatly!!

Date Posted: 14:52:31 02/21/12 Tue

As mentioned before, tonight is the night. If everything goes well, Freddy will have a signed contract with the city and planning for the Grand Re-Opening will start immediately. My question is, what kind of classes would you all like to see? Freddy seems to have a pretty good grasp on heads-up racing, but I am sure he wouldn't mind some ideas or feedback.

I would like to see a 255/60-15 class for street cars and maybe a 275/60-15 Xtreme Class for the race cars. Or how about a 26x10.5 class? As we saw in the past, the guy with the biggest tires and engine usually won the race. Let's see if we can even up the field by limiting tire sizes? I am sure the race fans would love it and it would make for some badass racing. Start throwing some ideas around and lets see what we can come up with.

If anyone wants to attend the meeting tonight, it is open to the public and it usually starts at 6:00PM. The race track discussion will be held behind closed doors. But the city administrators will still have to vote in front of the public on whether to continue negotiating or finalize everything. At this point, it's no longer about Julio -vs- Freddy. It is about whether or not we keep a racetrack operating in the Rio Grande Valley.

I want to encourage you, if you have time tonight, go to the City Hall, located on University Dr, about a block West of the Courthouse and show your support for our local racetrack. Would be cool if we could get a bunch of people out there to show the city that we do care about racing and we do want our racetrack back!!!....

Below is the Meeting Agenda for Tuesday night's meeting for the City of Edinburg. And it looks like the discussion with regards to the race track will again be held "in private" behind closed doors. Last time I spoke to Freddy he said he is hoping that this will be it. He hopes the city will finally sign a contract with him. We have our fingers crossed that this does happen and they can finally get started working on remodeling the race track. Click at your own risk - the agenda is 228 pages. The info on the racetrack is on page 4. Check it out....

Here is tonights episode of LA Streer Racers from the NatGeo channel. Pretty good show with some good races by real muscle cars. Of course, some of the stuff is a bit overdone but it is TV and you know they are looking for ratings. Either way, it was a fun show. I didn't want to upload it to Youtube because they will probably kill it. So here is the file off my server. Just click on the pic below to watch the video. Or, right-click / save-as to download the file to your computer. By the way, I edited all the commercials out of it. So it's about a 30 minute show....enjoy....

As many of you know, Julio has been working on removing equipment and misc items from the racetrack. The city has allowed for a late March 2012 to complete this by. Since the track closed from one day to the next, Julio didn't have an opportunity to say good-bye to many of you and to say thanks for your support.

To do so, he is thinking of having a final EIR meet and greet social on a Saturday in mid-March. Since all of the lights have been removed, this would be held during the day time. There would be no racing, strictly an opportunity to go out, take a few pictures of your car at the starting line, by the winners sign, etc and to meet and talk with friends and maybe have a barbeque.A swap meet could even be set up in the pits if there is a lot of interest in doing so.

The event would need to end by sundown since there is no lighting. Admission would probably be no more than $5.00. You might even be able to buy any remaining track items like guardrail, light posts, speakers, wiring, etc.

Folks would be encouraged to bring out there pits and sit and bench race for awhile.

If you are interested in having a farewell social, please post in here. Thanks.

I have been taking A LOT of calls from racers, race fans, shop owners and business leaders asking for answers on what is going on with the Edinburg Racetrack. At this point, I really don't have answers for you guy's. The last time I spoke to Freddy Cruz he assured me that things were moving forward, plans are being drawn up and improvements should be starting soon. I really hope that is the truth because local shops are staring to feel the crunch. As if things weren't bad enough with the economy slowing down. Now no racetrack means local race shops aren't selling race parts. They aren't building race engine's. Local chassis shops aren't building race cars. And I have even heard of some race teams selling everything. Not to mention the fact that illegal street racing seems to be making a huge come back. Guess some have forgotten the tragedies of the past as a result of illegal street racing.

I know that most of our fans are drag racers at heart. But I want to remind you that there still are motorsports options in the Rio Grande Valley. The RGV Muddrags will be starting up soon in Los Fresnos. In case you need that fix for loud race engines and insane horsepower. Visit RGVMUDDRAGS.COM for their race schedule and upcoming races. There is also Road Course racing in Bayview that is open to everyone. The fee to enter is a little high at $100 per car. But I hear it is a lot of fun. Then there are always the cruises and car shows. And I also hear the local Roundy Round track is supposed to get going again in McAllen. Hope that brings some business to the local shops.

We just recieved word that Manuel "Manny" Abrego, passed away this morning. Manny was very well known in the car community and was always working hard to bring shows to the Mid-Valley, Weslaco, area. Manny was the show organizer for the HEB Car Show in Weslaco, Tx and the show at Mireles Fruit Stand and other shows. We want to express our deepest condolonces to the Abrego family. They have lost the patriarch of their family and we have lost a friend and a great advocate for our hobby. Good speed Manny, we will miss you. Here is a picture of Manny's "Disco Era" Nova. Like most, we don't really know the person but we do know the car. We will post updates for funeral arrangments as we recieve information from the family....

To all the Edinburg Racers and Fans,

I have not been on here in a little while and just got on here and noticed all the responses to different articles. I normally don't like to get on here and post things because as most of you can see anyone can just post whatever they want and not even have the courage to put there name down. At this point i think its important to both the Racers and Fans to let you guys know first hand where we exactly stand.

On Jan.3 we won the right to negotiate a deal with the city manager to continue operation of the race track. At this point we were left with only a promise to call us back to talk with city manager. On Jan.17Th,we finally got to talk with City Manager. There it was asked that we submit a proposal with them to be approved by City Council. We submitted proposal to city manager and it was forwarded to the city council. It is my understanding that the city council now has it on the agenda for next Tuesday. While this things have been happening i have also been in contact with Julio Cantu and are working on making a purchase deal from him. Keep in mind until the city gives us a signed contract, we can not complete deal with Julio.

I know that this is dragging on and everyone wishes they had the track up and running again but please remember all these things need to go through the city and we are not the only thing they have to take care of.

What i can promise you is that when everything gets up and running you will have a nice track with plenty of racing programs to keep you guys busy every week. From Brackets to street racing everyone will be covered.

If ever someone has a question that i can help or answer a question please feel free to contact me at protreefreddy@yahoo.com i promise you i will answer your questions with the best of my knowledge.

Thanks and Godspeed be with you!

Subject: Response to Tina's Helmet concern

Author:
Paul Ebrom
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 22:05:50 02/03/12 Fri

I know Julio doesn't follow these posts so I am taking the liberties of responding as a friend, a track supporter, and a racer.

First, Tina, it's good to hear from you. You, your son, and your husband Rick were always welcomed at the track, always raced well, and represented the track well at the Bracket Finals. I hope all is well with you and the family.

The helmet issue is one in which a major supplier of seat belts, jackets, helmets, and other safety equipment offerred to supply points winners with selected items. These items were not provided by the track but rather offerred by another company as an incentive if the track listed their name on flyers, etc. In January, the items are offerred by the company and 12 months later, after the company has sufferred set backs and new ownership, the equipment they offerred at the beginning of the year is withdrawn---again by the company, not by the track. The track has contacted the company on many occasions with no success. At the same time, other great companies like MT Race Tires have continued to offer prizes and they have honored their commitments.

This is no different than buying a ticket for a giveway and then when you go to collect the TV or the trip and the company no longer exists, all the ticket seller can do is sympathize.I remember a few years ago a major fuel supplier at both EIRT and San Antonio Raceway agreed to pay the year end points fund but encountered problems---do any of you remember collecting but yet I don't hear any complaining about that.

I think many racers go thru this when they try to collect contingency money at a major event. You get qquestioned on your decals, were the right size, the right color, etc and if their not you don't get paid. Its a shame but a reality. Julio did not start the racing season thinking if promised prizes would be paid or not--he just assumed the suppliers would honor their committments.

To blame the track for the failures of someone else is placing blame in the wrong place.

Paul

Date Posted: 11:54:51 02/02/12 Thu

I know a lot of you have questions about what is going on with our local race track. I spoke to Pro-Tree Freddy last night to get some updates. He said he is aware that everyone is getting anxious and everyone has concerns about whether or not the track is going to re-open. And he assured me that everything is still moving forward and they will set a date for a grand opening as soon as they are given the go ahead by the city of Edinburg. And that is where everything stands right now. The City of Edinburg, has not completed the contract for him to sign. He said he has been calling them everyday and it got to where they told him "Don't call us, we will call you".

He has been in contact and negotations with Julio for all of the equipment at EIRT. Julio has given him a price and he has agreed to it. It is just now a matter of the City of Edinburg, to step up and get the contracts written up. As soon as that happens, the remodeling will start. Freddy didn't want to give an exact date to re-open but his best guess is late March or early April. Again, that is just an estimate. So he is asking for everyone to please be patient and hang tight. He is working on it and promises that the track will be batter than ever. On my part I want to ask our readers and fans to please refrain from using foul language to express your opinions or concerns. Doing so just highlites your personal ignorance and puts the people of the Valley in a bad light. I will keep you guy's updated as I am updated by Freddy.

Need any help getting a helmet that was promised to him. We have gone round and round with the track officials over last year and this year. Was promised the helmet many times. He won in foot brake and was told that was one of the prizes. What gives? We even had gone to NHRA with no luck. They said it was the track's responsibility in this matter. Now, the track has closed. Does anybody have any suggestions and such?

Dateline: January 3rd 2012 - San Antonio Raceway's Freddy Cruz has been awarded the contract for the Edinburg 1/4 mile racetrack! After careful consideration of the bid packages, the City of Edinburg has sided with Cruz and they will join forces to give the Rio Grande Valley a new $200 Million dollar race facilty. Of course, this means a bond issue and it will have to go for approval of the residents of the city of Edinburg. But, I assume for now, San Antonio Raceway will take control or the track. According to sources, Edinburg International Racetrack will seaze operations immediately. I imagine Mr. Cantu and Mr. Cruz will now go into negotiations about what stays with the facility and what goes. We will keep you updated as we hear more about this........Stay Tuned!...

"MCALLEN CARFEST - FINAL DAY"

What a weekend. Nothing like spending the days with over 300 cars, your friends and family. Only thing missing was "El Bote" or, the bbq pit. Had a great time at the swap meet. The Ybarra crew from B'Ville had a pretty good run and some people walked away with great deals. On our end, Javier Deleon opened up the parts barn and gave us some items to sell for them. And again, some locals walked away with awesome deals like $25.00 for brand new headers and $3.00 for brand new Steward Warner gauges and $50.00 for big block Chevy aluminum intakes. If you missed the show and swap meet then you missed out on these and other awesome deals.

Inside the show, the awards ceremony went on for over two hours!!!....Yikes! The McAllen Convention center gave out over 40 trophies in the various categoties. I wasn't able to get pics of the winners. But you can check the Carfest website later when they have the pics posted. For Best of Show, the 1957 Chevy of Elvis Attiles took it. Everyone was in awe of that beautiful car. It was a close fight between that car and the Lowrider from the Del Valle Crew out of Alamo, Texas. Take a look at the pics in the gallery. That car was very impressive. And between you and me, I think the Lowrider should have won based on their display and work on the car. I mean, there wasn't one part of the car that was left untouched.

I hope cars like this are a sign of things to come for this show. The quality of cars I think will increase as other put up a good fight for the top honors. We want to thank Omar, director of the McAllen Convention Center, and Al Diaz, Coordinator for EVERYTHING! at the Convention Center, for inviting Texasdragracing.com to the show. We really had a great time. Can't thank them enough for their hard work ensuring all show participants were taken care of. They trully made as feel like being at home kicking back in our easy chairs. With efforts like this we believe this show will just get better and better every year. Below is a gallery with over 250 pictures from the last day of Carfest. We believe we got pics of every single car inside the show...lol. Enjoy......

Had an awesome time at Carfest today. You know, I have been to a lot of car shows and car related events over the years. But I got to tell you, this is the best show we have ever been to. Not just because there is so much going on, even though we have more going on than any other show. But mainly because this is our show. We, the local clubs, car guy's and Valley people, we all started this. By the look of things, Carfest is not going away. It will get tweaked, fine tuned and it will turn into a national event. And we will all be able to say, hey, I was there on day 1. Come on out tomorrow and enjoy the show. We still have a ton of stuff to sell at the swap meet. And there is still a lot of fun to be had. See you all out there.

If you follow us on Facebook, then you know that we were in Las Vegas this week and we just got back. Before leaving for Vegas, we went to the monthly Chic-Fil-A cruise in, in Mission, Texas. The turnout was awesome! Didn't count the cars and didn't get pics of all of them. But I can tell you it had to be at least 60-80 cars out there, maybe more. Here are some highlight pics and the picture gallery. We will follow up this update with a cruise video which we will probably post after the Carfest event going on NOW at the McAllen Convention Center. For now, enjoy the pics...

Check out this HUGE 725 CID monster being freshened up by Deleon Racing Engine's. And if that wasn't enough, there are 4, yeah, 4 nitrous kits on it. The car this is going in has been in the 6's and it consistently the #1 Qualifier in it's class. As long as the track is closed for renovations why not take your engine over to Javi and Joel and have them take a look at it for you. Or maybe you just need new rings or bearings. Having a professional like Javi Deleon going over your engine is a big plus because he might see something you can change to get you that added horsepower you have been looking for . From all out race engines like this to the awesome little mouse in my station wagon, you just cannot go wrong with a Deleon Racing Engine.

The weather was awesome yesterday. Perfect weather for a long drive in the Hotrods. This time, Vern & John, the organizers of the cruise, took us on FM490 to Rio Grande City. I must admit, in 25 years of living in the Valley, I had never taken the road to Rio Grande City. The road was nice and smooth. Our destination was the La Borde Hotel & Restaurant right of 83 in Rio Grande City. We didn't get to go inside due to the fact that we took our dog with us and I don't think the restaurant was pet friendly. Either way, we had a great time and look forward to the next one. Here are close to 70 pics from yesterday's cruise. Check it out.

In this installment of "Blast From The Past!" we went way back into the TDR Archives to bring you "THE GHOST!" No, not that Ghost, we are talking about "The Ghost"...we are talking about the one that started it all. The original Ghost. Way back when street cars were "real" street cars that actually saw street action, The Ghost was the fastest thing out there. We are talking about a true street animal on small tires. Owned by the team of Mark Self and David Clow, The Ghost was the car to beat. What sparked the interest in the Ghost? Well it was due to the fact that back when The Ghost ruled the roost, there wasn't a track to race at. So The Ghost either went to Houston, Tx to prove it's worth or it would roam the back roads of the Valley looking for Chevy's to lay waste to. For that we salute you Mr. Ghost.

The 2012 McAllen Carfest is right around the corner. Al Diaz, coordinator for the event is still looking for more cars. He is specifically looking for "Race Cars". With no races happening for at least 90 days this would be a great opportunity to dust off the hotrods, give them a good wash and bring them out to the show. The City of McAllen is looking to put Carfest on the national Car Show map offering more than just a normal car show. McAllen Carfest includes a road course, a carnival, food, live music, a huge swap meet and this year they will be giving out over 40 trophies. Get your registration forms in and get signed up for McAllen Carfest 2012 now! Dates of the show are January 27th thru the 29th. Time is running out so download your forms and get them in asap!

What a day it was Saturday. My son and I got up at 6:00AM and took off to San Antonio, to pickup some parts for Project Trigger. We got there, picked up the parts and hauled butt back home. But not before stopping at Bill Millers BBQ for lunch...YUM!!!..We need a Bill Millers in the Valley ASAP!....Anyway, we were back home by 5:00PM. Just in time to get ready for the Saturday night Cruise In at Colonial Village. If you are sitting around at home and not enjoying this rare Valley weather then you suck!!..lol. Get up off your butt and bring out your hotrods to the Cruise In dudes! Here are some pics we snapped off of the cars in attendance. And a little video we made of Project Trigger cruising with our Warhead Camaro. Check it out!!!!.....

Want to say a few words about this awesome T-Bucket built at Jimmy Cameron's Camco Trailer shop in McAllen. The car was built for Jerry (the gentleman in the blue shirt). Jerry was diagnosed with terminal cancer. When Jimmy heard about this, he took Jerry's dream car and made it a reality for him. The car was handbuilt from scratch in only 10 weeks! Guy's, that is what it's all about. Check this out, the car weights 1900 lbs. The engine makes close to 500hp. Do the math! This thing is a blast! Anytime you have the ability or even a skill to donate for a good cause, go for it! Jerry is now able to enjoy his hotrod and he is having a blast! Want to say Good Job! to all the guy's at Camco Trailer for coming together for this good cause.....

Here are some victims of the recent events of the race track being closed while the new owners take over. David Guzman and family purchased this awesome Challenger to take out to EIRT and have some fun. But, with no track, this means the Challenger will have to wait to tear up the asphalt. But I am sure Dave has already stretched it's legs just a bit...lol.

Check it out. I had always heard about this car but had never actually seen it. This car is as rare as a white Buffalo. But I guess they do exist. This awesome beast of a Mustang is owned by Chris Bullard. The car is absolutely beautiful. And does it go? Oh yeah! Don't know what is under the hood but I can tell you it is mean, mean, mean. Don't believe me? Hell, just look at those huge tires and the wing and the parachute and all that cool stuff. How fast is it? We don't know because we don't have a track...haha. That is just picking on Freddy...lol.

You want to talk Modern Muscle? How about this badass 1955 Shoebox owned by Roland Arrevalo. Roland has owned the car since like 1932 or something..lol. But check out the power under the hood. Yeah, that is an LSx engine with fuel injection backed by a full built 4L60E overdrive transmission. Roland say's he will never ever go back to old engine tech. He said Modern Muscle is the way to go. And I got to say, I agree with him. Good job on the '55 Roland, it's awesome!

NEW TDR PROJECT - "TRIGGER"

Date Posted: 10:35:26 12/27/11 Tue

Hope everyone had an awesome Christmas weekend. Here at TDR, we always have something going on with regards to Hotrods. I want to introduce you guy's to our newest project. We call it "Trigger". Trigger is a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. The car was purchased from my good friend, Gabe. He had owned the car for 15 years before passing it over to us. Trigger comes with a bored out Pontiac 400 engine with all the goodies like Luiz Zamora ported heads, a Comp 288R Solid Roller Cam, all MSD igniton, Jr. Alvarado built TH350 transmission with a 3000 stall convertor, roll bar and subframe connectors welded in by Roy Perez of Eagle Race Cars. The foundation for project Trigger is awesome. Our intentions are to detune Trigger just a little and get it ready for Hotrod Magazine's Power Tour 2012. Power Tour is starting in Chicago in 2011 and will end in Arlignton, Texas. Our plans are to meet the Tour in Oklahoma, cruise down to Arlignton and the make the drive back home. Power Tour is in June so we have our work cutout for us. Plans are to give it the full "Smokey & The Bandit" treatment with fresh black paint, Phoenix Graphics kit, some nice wheels, Vintage Air A/C system and March Pullies. We are also going to be installing a TH200R4 Overdrive Transmission to help out the 3.42 gears in the differential. And also cleaning up the interior with new carpet and seat covers. For Christmas, my son's gave me a awesome Kenwood Stereo and a real nice car cover. It's good having kids that are into cars as much as I am. Stay tuned because thing's will be moving pretty fast in an effort to make the deadline.

As you have heard by now, the Edinburg City Commission has awarded operations of Edinburg International Racetrack to Mr. Freddy Cruz even though an independent committee appointed by the Commission scored the EIR bid higher. As a result, I am left with no choice but to cancel all Wednesday and Friday events effective immediately. This will enable me to start removing equipment I have purchased thru the years as soon as possible and allow the new operators to make plans for their opening of the track. I have enjoyed a 17 year relationship with the city and even though I would have very much liked to continue with the track, it's time to move on.

I want to use this occasion to give a sincere thanks to the racers, fans, vendors, sponsors, and media that have supported me thru the years. Your support was invaluable. I also want to thank my family, my friends, and my business associates for standing with me thru the good times and the bad times----you will never know how much you meant to me.

My goal was always to provide racers with a safe place to race and to treat everyone fairly and honestly. I beleive I succeeded in that regard. I have no regrets and I'm sure I'll see many of you down the road.

Take care.

Here are just a few pics from Saturday nights Car Club Bash at Edinburg International Racetrack. I really wanted to stay out there late and grab pics and video of all the action. But I was just too tired and in pain. I even slept for about 4 hours after the car show earlier in the day just to make sure I would be up for it. But, the pain in my side got to me and we had to leave the track around 11pm. Plus, I knew we had to be up early Sunday morning for the cruise to SPI with teh F-Body Club. Along with the pics, I have a video I got of "The Slammer" Mustang vs "The Phenom". I think it was from the second round of qualifying. Check back for that video later. For more pics, check out our Facebook page.

I'm having tranny problems with my truck, at slow speeds 25-30 mph the tranny seems to go into a neutral position and revs up then shifts into the proceeding gear. I have done research on this issue and it's a common problem. Has anyone had this problem before? What was the diagnose? Was it repaired and did it occur again? Who made the repairs?

Mr. Nelson had visited the Valley on many occasions and was defintly a crowd favorite during the Night Under Fire shows at Edinburg International Racetrack. I am lucky to have met such a wonderful person. Our prayers and condolences go out to his wife, Anita and their family. God Speed Mr. Nelson, you will be missed by everyone, especially the kids.

Tonight we have two new TDR Sponsors that have signed on to support Texasdragracing.com for the fans and racers. Our first sponsor highlight is for the Hole In The Wall Shooting Range, owned and operated by Jorge Sanchez. A shooting range is a place to go and let off some steam. Maybe you have an AR-15 tucked away in the closet. You just can't fire that thing anywhere. But you can unload a few clips at the Hole In The Wall Shooting Range. Safely, legally and of course, to check your accuracy. Go by and pay Jorge Sanchez a visit and let them know you saw their ad on Texasdragracing.com....

Our next sponsor highlight is for none other than Edwin (Ed) and Rayena Glabraith's shop, Performance Transmission, located in Alice, Texas. Ed and Rayena have been racing with us so long that they are considered family by all the local racers. You might also remember that Ed is the driver for Tommy Hearn's Ghost Mustang. Ed and Rayena's Performance Transmission shop provides anything you need for your next high-performance transmission build. They also offer general auto repair and even computer diagnostics of your modern vehicles. Give Performance Transmission a call and thank them for supporting Texasdragracing.com....

Can't thank you guy's enough for the support. Your donation will help keep Texasdragracing.com alive for the 2012 race season. We will be looking to upgrade our camera's and we hope to be out at EIRT and other race tracks across Texas covering races for the fans. Remember, our sponsor deal will end soon. Don't miss out, give us a call today!!!....

Here is a video of my friend Tim making a test hit in his awesome LSx powered Trans Am. Tim's goal is to make a 9 second all motor pass. Making him the first LSx powered car to run that fast on pure muscle in the Rio Grande Valley area. No word yet on any power adders for the Trans Am, like nitrous. But I think if he did decide to spray it, 8 second ET's would not be a problem.

I also wanted to update you guy's on our new website for Trans Am owners in the South Texas area. While looking for parts for our newest project "Project Trigger" I noticed that a lot of Trans Am guy's, especially the older 2nd Gen cars, have no clue who the other Trans Am owners are. So we built a site to bring them all together. The site covers 1st Generation all the way thru 4 Generation Trans Am's & Firebird's. If you own a "rare bird" sign up on our new site. You can get there by clicking on the banner below. And we have also added a permanent link to our "Links" page. Check it out...

"FRIDAY NIGHT WAGON TESTING"

Date Posted: 08:46:18 12/12/11 Mon

Finally got the wagon out for some testing Friday night. We almost turned around though. As we were pulling into the track it started to drizzle. But we waited it out and the weather cleared up. Our best pass before in the wagon was a 12.72 @ 106mph. Actually, the wagon ran three back to back passes in the same range. So this time out we swapped out the 3" Flowmaster mufflers for a set of 3" Dynomax Race Bullets. We had success with bullets in the past so we figured we would try them again. We were not disappointed as the wagon ran a 12.51 @ 106mph on it's first pass. That's two tenths faster with just a muffler change. This was at full weight with steel wheels, pump gas and M/T drag radials. The 60ft was a 1.75, best ever. And the 1/8 mile was also good at a 7.93, first time the wagon has been in the 7's. We were pretty excited. I was looking for a high .40 pass and we were on the way. Check out the video below.

Unfortunately, this was last good pass the wagon would make that night. After this pass we noticed the wagon was leaning to the right. I gave it a quick check and didn't see anything so we went ahead with a second pass. On this pass, my son said it spun the tires hard. I didn't see it but the 60ft times dropped to 2.0's. That run resulted in a 12.83 @ 106mph as well. The third and final run was the worst. My son said it shook the tires real hard, almost knocking the camera off the mount. Then he said he felt a vibration at the top end so he lifted. That run resulted in a 12.98 @ 98mph. Below is IN CAR video footage of the last two passes.

Warning: Do not do what we did. Continuing to run a vehicle with something obviously wrong in the suspension was dumb, dumb, dumb! The correct thing would have been for us to call it night. Please, don't do what we did. Safety is and should always be a priority.

We still haven't had a chance to check the suspension. We need to figure out why the wagon is leaning to the right. The total opposite of the torque side. And we also need to figure out where the vibration was coming from. I'm thinking once we find out why it is leaning, we will also find out where the vibration is coming from. Before we connect the nitrous system we are going to have the pinion angle checked and we will also be ordering a new driveshaft just to be on the safe side. If you all have any ideas on what happened, post up. I'm not much a suspension guru so any help will be welcomed.

Tonight, at Edinburg International Racetrack, Texasdragracing.com's "Wagabu" wagon will be going head to head with Tim's awesome SRT8 Challenger. Both cars are super heavyweights and run similar ET's. So it should be a close one. With any luck, we might be able to run a best two out of three race. Will the Modern Muscle Mopar take it or will the Old School Grocery Getter come out on top? Come on out to EIRT tonight and check out the "Wagabu's" first grudge race. Gates open at 7:00PM, Racing starts at 8:00PM - Gates close at Midnight.

Tonight, we want to welcome two new sponsors to the Texasdragracing.com family. We are proud to have Pueblo Tires come on board as a sponsor for the 2012 Season. Pueblo Tires is one of the better if not the best known name in tires in all of South Texas. Their ad's are all over the place and their signature "SHAMPOOZIE" is a household word now. The next time you need tires, think Service, think Pueblo Tires. Visit Feliciano Ambriz, store manager for Pueblo Tires located at 4115 N 23rd St in McAllen, Tx. And make sure you let him know you saw his ad on Texasdragracing.

Have you ever seen those horror stories in the news about some family giving out his hard earned dollars to a contractor. And then the contractor splits town with the cash and leaving the project unfinished? Those people didn't have someone they could trust. And they obviously did't call Danny Ybarra Construction. The next time you are needing a remodel, or a brand new home, why not call someone you trust? Someone who will give you excellent service and will do what they say they are going to do. No fears here. Danny and Ruben Ybarra of Danny Ybarra Construction have 15+ years of construction experiance. Save their number to your cell phones and the next time you are looking for an upgrade to your home. Or a brand new custom home, call Danny Ybarra Construction.

Guy's, I need to remind you that our sponsors are your peers. They are people just like you who love hotrods, race cars, show cars and especially, family. These are the people who you see racing in our video's, the same people you see in our pictures. Why not give them your business and support? From tires to food to race parts to custom engines and even new homes, our list of sponsors are the people who deserve your business and hard earned dollars. And remember, anytime you call them, let them know you saw their ad on Texasdragracing.com. This will let them know who you are and you will be treated extra special.

I need my axle repaired and wanted to know who fixes them here locally. I live in edinburg the closer the better. My diff has been leaking gear lube from the passenger side axle. I recently replaced the seals and noticed that there was a scratch on the seating surface where the seal goes inside the axle tube. I think this is where the fail happened and possible need to repair it with a redi-sleeve. Also, the bolts that hold the axle retaining plate are stripped and need to be replaced. Lasty,I want to replace the studs that hold the 3rd member. Thanks

Grils, Car Parts and Rock CD's......

Of all the show we attend every year, this show is definitly one of our favorites. It comes with everything to make you laugh, feel good and even make a little extra cash. The organizer, we will just call him "Felix" is always good for a few laughs. And this year, he did not disappoint. First thing we noticed when we arrived at the show was this......

This is the box where we were to put our toy's. This box was for the "Grils"...lol. You know, I don't really know if this show is really to benefit the Toy's for Tot's program. I mean, the boxes are not official. And the guy was asking for "cash" donations"...lol. Oh well, that is just my opinion. I really do hope that the toy's that were donated do really go to a good cause. And if not, well, they are still toy's and I am sure they will still go to needy kids. And that is all that matters.

We really did not have a bunch of stuff to sell. But we did manage to gather up a few extra car parts that were just sitting in our shed, gathering dust. We had some cool stuff, like 3" Flowmaster mufflers (didn't sell) we also have a tilt-steering column for a G-Body. Also very hard to come by. This one came out of a 442 that my buddy Johnny was parting out. That also did not sell. What is funny is that even some parts we were giving away for FREE, did not sell...lol. I had one gentleman ask me for the price on an air-cleaner assembly. He asked, "how much?"...I said...FREE...he put it down and walked away...lol. We did manage to get rid of some stuff. Like a 1" aluminum spacer for only $5.00...some Derby Rally caps, also let them go for $5.00....And we gave away a bunch of car magazines. I often see people selling old magazines. And I have never understood that.

What was our biggest seller? Rock CD's...yeah, a bunch of Rock CD's. I took my entire collection of Rock CD's with me to sell. I was only asking $1.00 for them. And $2.00 for the two-disc sets. I had everything you could think off. 3 big shoe boxes full of CD's. I sold a hair-band CD right away. Along with some Pearl Jam and Nirvana CD's. Then one gentleman who took his time looking, pulling out CD after CD, just looked at me and said..."How much for all of them?" seems he could not make his mind up. I mean, we are talking Kiss, Pink Floyd, every Metallica CD, Iron Maiden, Korn, Nickelback, Seether, The Who, AC-DC, Led Zepplin, you name it. So, I let go of all of them for $60.00....did I lose out? Yeah, I mean, what are CD's now a day's, $10.00 or $12.00 each? And yeah, each one held a special memory. But, they have now been passed on. And I hope they bring this person as much joy as they brought me. And don't worry, all the CD's are backed up to hard-drives, jump-drives and iPods. They aren't really going anywhere...lol.

It has been a wonderful weekend. We hit every goal we ment to hit. The only thing we didn't get to do was race the wagon. But, that gives us a little time to work on it and maybe install that nitrous system I have been meaning to install. Maybe we can go and run a 10 second pass before 2011 is up. Now that would be cool. Here are some pics from today's show. Enjoy....

Here are some pics we snapped Saturday morning during the cruise to San Manuel. Had a fair amout of cars show up and it was really cool crusing out there were the Gaitan's gassers. As well as Oscar Vera's super sweet 1956 gasser. And of course, we got to cruise the wagon. I know I always talk about it. But I just cannot tell you how much we enjoy driving this thing. After it finally makes a 10 second pass. The plans are to de-tune it and get it ready for the Hotrod Power Tour. I hear they are coming to Texas in 2012. And we plan on being there. Anyway, those are the plans...enjoy the pics...

Today we have two more sponsor highlights. First up is the infamous, Luis Zamora from Zamora Racing Heads. Luis is a very well know engine builder. But he is better known for his expertise in bleeding every last ounce of power out of a set of heads. Even if they are performance heads. Luis can still take them and make them even better. Just ask any engine builder, the power is all in the heads. And Zamora Racing Heads knows all about that. The next time you need a set of heads ported, polished and worked over. Give Luis a call. He is fair, honest and will steer you in the right direction with your next engine project. Thanks a lot Luis for being a fan and supporter of Texasdragracing.com

Up next, we have Abisai with Remax Realtors. You know, we all have a "a guy". That person you take your car to. Or that person who you trust to cut your hair. Why not have a Realtor who understands your needs in your corner? The next time you or one of your friends, or relatives is looking for a new home, or just looking for land, give Abisai a phone call. Let him know you are a racer and fan of Texasdragracing.com and he will treat you extra special. What ever your home/business purchase/rental needs are, Abisai has you covered. Thanks Abisai for coming back on board to support Texasdragracing.com....

How many times have you caught yourself lying to the track tech inspector about how fast your car really is? I can't say I have done it because my cars have never been fast...lol. But, I have had cars fast enough to require at least a roll bar (11.49 and faster). The next time you think about lying to the tech inspector think about this recent incident at the Buick West Coast Nationals. This turbo Buick tech'd in for 10.00 and no faster. Well, the guy was obviously lying because the car clicked off the timers with a 9.70 @ 119mph SIDEWAYS!!!...Passing tech for a 10.00 means the car should not have gone faster since it only had a "roll-bar" not a "roll-cage" as is required for cars 9.99 and faster. Look at the first pic. I believe the guy was wearing blue jeans.

Word is the driver did make it. But he has some serious injuries in part due to no roll-cage and the fact that his helmet came off during the crash. Track tech's said the chin strap was tied, but it was obviously loose. Remember guy's, safety always comes first. Next time you are asked how fast your car is, be honest. And if you don't know, how about you make an 1/8 mile pass just to test the waters. That will give you a good idea of just how fast your car is. Then you can go back and make changes. Because getting sideways heading for the guardrail then going end over end in your car with no safety equipment is not the way to test things.

All right, Christmas time is here and we all need some extra spending cash. So it's time to stop hogging up all those race car parts and bring them out to the Bill Bunton Car Show & Swap Meet. This will be the 9th Annual Show for The Bunton Family and we hope it will be the best ever. The show is to benefit The Marine Corps and their awesome Toys For Tots program. Show is absolutely free, but please bring a toy to donate to Toys For Tots. Show starts at 8:00AM. This means we will be there at 7:00AM...lol. See you all there....Oh yeah, if you are looking to spend some cash, then please come on out and do some Christmas shopping for your ride.....Again, see you all there bright and early.

Check out this crazy video from this weekends Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas. The throttle on this Firebird hung up as soon as the car launched. The driver tried to bring the car to stop by getting on the brakes and popping the chute. Unfortunately, that all went wrong. The car made a hard left into the wall knocking out the driver. Check out the video for the rest.......

Want to wish all our fans and friends a very happy and special Thanksgiving 2011. Before you cut that delicious turkey tomorrow take a few seconds to give thanks for everything in your life. Give thanks for your loved ones, your friends, your co-workers and the simple fact that you have made it this far in life. That last few weeks have really shown me how important the smallest things in life are. Everything counts. God bless everyone and stay safe.
