Got word that Jon got married a few day's ago. And I hear it's to a super nice girl. And she would have to be, considering their awesome wedding cake. Check it out, it was cooked up by Cynthia's Cakes in Edinburg, Texas. Is that cool or what?

I ain't never had a wedding, but I got to tell you, my wife would have never gone for a car cake...LOL! Hang on to this girl Jon, she is something special. Make sure you bring her out to the races and let her make a couple of passes in the Blue Monster. Nothing like a girl who is as interested in cars as much as you are. That's an awesome combination. Congratualtions again and we wish you a long, happy marriage.

These are some pics I snapped off while traveling with one of our delivery drivers today. These pics were snapped in the Harlingen, Combes, Primera area. We went to Raymondville and man, it looks like a huge lake out there. We didn't make it to San Benito or Brownsville, but we might try again tomorrow. Again, these pics are nothing compared to some of the really bad damage we saw. Unfortunately, my camera died on me. In any event, if you are sitting at home, with A/C and internet, thank the good Lord. Cause there are thousands and thousands of people who right now have no food, water or shelter in the good 'Ole U.S.A.

Went to work today for the first time since Hurricane Dolly. And I must tell you, those of us living in the Upper Valley area were trully blessed. Driving to Harlingen this morning took me an hour and a half. This is usually a 20 minute drive for me. On the way, I was passed by a convoy of military and rescue vehicles from all over Texas. I snapped some pics when I could. And let me tell you, the damage was so bad that I don't think I would have had enough space on my digital camera. Follow up pics in Part 2.

I had some reservations about posting the video. But I spoke to the owners wife today and she told me it was ok. The good thing about all this is that Larry is ok and we can only thank God that the car in the other lane had problems and didn't make a full pass. We will have full video of the entire race tomorrow. Including about 360 pictures of the race. It's just a lot of information to process, so it's taking us a little extra time. But we promise to have most of it by tomorrow night.

And we are back! Dolly got us for about half an hour. Knocked out all of our power. But we are back, so I will hurry and get the video's up before the storm gets worse. First video is of the first round of Pro Stock Qualifying. Followed by footage of the entire Pro Stock race, including Larry's wreck. Both files are huge, so give them some time to load. Hope you all enjoy this.....I will continue working on other video's from Saturday. I know you Pro Street fans are dying to see the video's....We'll be back...

"QUICK BOARD UPDATE 7/20/08"

Date Posted: 23:27:41 07/20/08 Sun

Gonna make this quick. Just came in from the garage and I am dead tired. But more on that in a bit. For now, here are some quick answers to your questions.

1. About the #1 Spot challenge. THERE IS NO DRIVE! We don't do drives anymore. So to who ever brought that up, you're dreamin'....

2. Tommy Hernandez won Pro-Street Saturday night. He took out some of the biggest heavy hitters in the RGV to take home the cash, the trophy and the respect.

3. Yes, a Pro-Stock did flip over on Saturday. The driver was fine and he was out of the car before the rescue crew got there.

4. Yes, I do have video. No, don't know if I am going to post it yet.

5. Yes, I do have video from Wednesday night. Yes, I will post it and the pics as soon as I get a chance.

And finally! The TDR Elky project ran under it's own power tonight. I've been off work since Thursday and my kids and I have been hammering on it ever since. It was pretty cool to take it for a some what crazy drive. Seems the transmission is no good. Oh well, gonna have to yank it out. We'll get to it when we get to.

For now, here is a pic of the little "305" booger between the front tires. Didn't do anything to it other than clean it up. Speaking of cleaning up, as soon as we parked it in the garage, the transmission spilled it's guts all over my garage floor. The RGVOLDCARS.com cruise is on August 2nd, so we have that much time to get it all figured out.

With this out of the way, we can no go back to a some what normal life and get the board updated. I will have my son work on that tomorrow, while I am back at work. So stay tuned....and thank's for your patience.

"THE PROSTOCKS ARE COMING"

"CLICK BANNER FOR WEBSITE"

You read it right, the world famous "TEXAS PROSTOCK ASSOCIATION" is coming to the Rio Grande Valley. Look out for the ad's on TV and on radio on 94.5 "The Rock". The is the first time these guy's are coming to the Valley, so let's give them a big South Texas welcome. I hear our Ultimate Outlaw Champ will be greeting them with open arms. Got a call from Ruben Salinas today and he told me the new engine is going in as we speak and it will be ready for competition on Saturday. Make sure to get there early for the best seats. This is going to be an awesome show!!!.....

Now, according to their website, these are the guy's who have already commited to making the trip down here. And word is more are planning on making the trip as well....

Saturday is looking to be one heck of a show. If you love some close, side by side headsup action, and I know you do, otherwise you wouldn't be here...then you won't want to miss the Texas Pro Stock Association on their very first trip down South. See you all at the races on Saturday...

"RIGO'S BIG BAD '69 UPDATE"

Date Posted: 10:07:51 07/18/08 Fri

If you ever wanted to see a car, built specifically for our Top 10, by our rules, then you wouldn't have to look any further than Rigo Trevino's "Big Bad '69" Camaro. Rigo recently challenged Charlie Delon for the #1 Spot. And he wanted me to tech the Camaro, to make sure it's fits all the rules. And let me tell you, it passed with flying colors. Everything was perfect! We snapped some pics of this beautiful ride while it was getting some last minute alignment at D & D Wheel Alignment, in McAllen, Texas.

Rigo also wanted me to get some video, just to let Charlie know that his day's as the #1 Spot holder are numbered. Charlie has been our #1 Big Dog for almost a year now. Officialy, the longest #1 Spot Holder we have ever had. But Rigo said, it's over. It's time for the "Original Big Dog" to take back what's his....Check out this thing, it is sick!....

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

What's powering it? How about 565 cubic inches of "DeLeon Racing Engines" built madness. Javi Deleon, was given the task of building not only an engine that could take the #1 Spot without a problem, but also an engine that Rigo could take out for a cruise on pump gas.

Here are the tire measurment pics. As you can see, the tires are well within the rules. And check out the awesome interior. The interior is complete, right down to a brand new headliner. Yeah, that is a nitrous bottle. The engine is plenty strong as is, but it's not intercooled. A little spray will handle that inlet temperature heat without a problem. If you want to see this monster in action, it should be at Edinburg International Race Track. Come check it out and stay tuned for updates on the upcoming #1 Spot Race!...

It's amazing what a little time, elbow grease and Dupli-Color paint can do. My kids and I spent the better part of yesterday getting the engine ready to drop in the Elky. The engine itself was already built, but man, did it need some help in the looks department. Nothing worse than someone asking to see your engine and it looks like this.....

Ugly! It's nothing special really. Just a stock 305 cubic inch rebuild with what sounds like a HUGE! camshaft. We don't expect to be a track monster with that little engine. But that's cool. The Elky is going to be our "Saturday Cruse In" Hot Rod. You can say it is now retired from it's track duties. This is how the egine looks now, thanks to help from Deleon Auto Accessories, The Speed Center and my buddy Abel, at Oreilly Auto Parts.

Guy's, when you are working on your Hot Rod, give our sponsors your business. If it was not for them, Texasdragracing would not be possible. And don't forget, always mention to them that you saw there ad on Texasdragracing.com. Stay tuned for an update later today. We are hoping to fire it up before 5:00pm tonight. Adios...

Thank's to a good friend, Tommy Hearn, for hooking us up with this awesome 1967 El Camino. You all might remember it from when Danny Galeana owned it and ran it at our very first Boardwars races. Well, we are trying to get it back together this weekend for an upcoming RGVOLDCARS.com cruise, scheduled for Saturday, August 2nd, 2008. We have pretty much everything we need, but we are needing a more streetable Torque Convertor.

Now, we are not looking for a handsout or anything free. What we are looking for is parts location help. What we need is a stall convertor in the 2000-2500 stall range. The Elky came with a 3500 stall convertor, which is way to loose for what we want to do. If anyone has something laying around they want to sell, give me a call at 956-655-2835 or shoot me an e-mail. I'll keep you all updated on the project.

Now, I know you all see the Malibu Wagon in the background. Well, the good news on that is that we already took the engine in for machine work at Pan American Automotive. Domingo told me the basic work is done. We just need to go in and choose some rods and pistons for the rotating assembly. We will keep you all updated on that too.

Thanks!
Mark M

Took me a while to figure everything out, but I went ahead and got the Top 10 Spots figured out. First, we moved Tony Torres up to the #6 Spot. He asked me on Friday about making a pass for it. I told him to go for it, since he really didn't have a race.

Next, I went ahead and put Juan Penaflor back on the board. His #3 Spot challenge came in late. And he was a good sport about accepting, as long as he could have one of the open spots if he lost, and I agreed. Then, I moved everyone up one spot. So Cesar (HPA VETTE) is the new #8 Spot holder and Ruben Jr. is the new #9 Spot holder. This leaves the #10 Spot open. My son, Mark Jr. will be making a pass for it this Wednesday night.

And finally, I spoke with Rigo Trevino on Friday and he asked me to go ahead and post an **OFFICIAL CHALLENGE** for the #1 Spot against Charlie Deleon. This one has been a long time coming. Looks like the Original Big Dog is making a come back. I am meeting with Rigo on Thursday to tech his car as per our rules. Stay tuned for pics of Rigo's Big Bad Blown '69....

Don't know what it's going to take to get more muscle cars out to the local Cruise In shows. In other cities, cruise in's are huge. Some cruise in's in San Antonio, Dallas & Houston, attract over 500 cars on any given Saturday night. You know, with the price of fuel and the economy going into the tank, cruise in's are a great way to spend an evening. All the shows are free and most places pass out coupons for free food.

The next Texas Tops Cruise In is scheduled for August 9th. Let's see if we can get more people out there. Tell your friends, your family, co-workers about the cruise in. Bring out the kids and enjoy some free ice-cream. If you want to keep up to date with the local car show scene, make sure to check out RGVOLDCARS.com. They have a calender with up to date happenings every weekend in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas.

**CLICK BANNER FOR WEBSITE**

All right, here are close to 100 pics from this past Saturday, Texas Tops Cruise In. Even though we didn't have an old Muscle Car, we took our 2000 Trans Am and showed it off. Yeah, you don't need an old car to participate. As long as it's clean and shiny, people will love it. And even if it's not, people will still love it. That's the beauty of a cruise in. It's just chance to some time with friends, talking about what we love best...CARS!!!...Well, here are some highlight pics and the gallery.

"LAST NIGHTS WINNERS"

Had a great time last night. Once again, The Big Dogs brought down the house. The stands were packed with race fans. When the Big Dogs came up to run, it looked like they were going to knock the fence over on the pitside. Awesome show guy's.

There were a few glitches here and there. Like, some of the challengers did not make the show. And that's cool, I know problems come up and certain things just can't be helped. Even so, we still had a good time and we had some killer match races. It took a bit of scrambling, but we managed to get just about everyone a match race.

First up, the team of S & P Racing, consisting of Salinas and Perez. Sylvester was on rails last night and made an impressive 4.85 @ 150mph hit. Doing the math, that's a 7.61 to the 1/4 mile. Roy said Sylvester ripped out a 1.16 60ft and that is the best 60ft he has ever seen out of this car. This was even better than their hits in San Antonio. That's right, our little track has some bite!!!...Well, too bad SPS Racing didn't make the show. I am sure it would have been an awesome race. You know, we had a backup for this, but Ruben Ybarra in the Bounty Hunter blew a tire on a test pass. So Sylvester had to make a hit all alone.....

Next up is the BIG DOG himself. You love him, the dudes in the other lane hate him, CHARLIE "JOE DIRT" Deleon!!!...Man, what an awesome race he had with Anthony Rios, driving the Flaming Cheeto. Anthony is an excellent driver and he showed that by putting a serious light on Charlie. But that was not enough. Charlie came around the big Chevy for the win...Congrats!!!...FYI!!..A challenge for the #1 Spot has already been made. Stay tuned for an update....

This next race was another awesome battle. Henry "The Undertaker" Thomae dug a hole and buried the Thunder Chicken Nova in it. Henry said The Chicken was right next to him all the way down the 1/4 mile. That is, until Henry hit the "OH SHIT" Button...LOL! That's Henry's secret weapon. He told me it's the last defense against any opponent who thinks he can take The Red Rocket Chevelle down. I wonder if Henry is holding up a #1 for a reason? Like, maybe coming after Charlie?....

Next up is the team of Hernandez Racing. You know, nothing impresses me more than to see a dude unload his car, pull up to the line and take care of business. No test hits, no tuning, no messing around. Like Henry Thomae, Faustino Hernandez showed up, strapped in and said, Let's Do This!...He had a three way race with Ray Espericueta for the #3 Spot. Winner would go on to race Juan Penaflor for it. After a hard fought fight with The Problem Child Nova, Faustino came back and laid waste to Juan's Vitamin C Stang. I can see a re-challenge coming already.

Next up is "The Most Dangerous Man" in dragracing! Why do we call Bridgi that? Well, because when I asked him what lane he wanted for his match race against Danny Ybarra's King Kong S-10? He said, "both of them!" I asked, what? He said, "yeah, you tell Jason he can have what ever lane I'm not on...haha....This looked like it was going to be another killer race, except the S-10 lunched it's tranmission at the hit. So Bridgi took it easy. Not wanting to show what "El Gallito" Trans Am can really do...

Our next winner of the night was the HPA-Vette from 1320 Performance. I am sorry, I didn't get the drivers name, but thanks a bunch for showing others that it does not take an 8 second car to compete on Texasdragracing.com..Everyone and anyone can challenge. The Vette is a 12 second performer and they are willing to step up the game if need be. Congrats on your win.

The last match race was supposed to be between Tony Torres and Carlos with the Stang Killer Camaro. But the Camaro did not show. We still lined up Tony with a random Ford Lightning. Which Tony quickly showed his lights to. For his efforts, Tony still earned a Match Race trophy. That is how we roll here at Texasdragracing.com.

Thanks a bunch to all of you. Without the racers, the fans and the sponsors, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. We look forward to our upcoming challenges and as always, stay tuned to Texasdragracing.com for the best headsup action. We have more pics and of course, the video's. You won't want to miss those.

All right, before we go to the Cruise In at Texas Tops, here are the pics of the winners from last nights 9.90 Super Gas race. Once again, Sergio Paez made it to the final and the win. Right behind him in 2nd place was Tony Rocio. These guy's put on a good side by side show and we will have their video up as well later today....

Weather man says it does not look good for racing this week. But, I think the weather man is just guessing at it. I got my fingers and my eyes crossed that the weather will clear up by race date. Edinburg International Racetrack has a lot going on that day. First up, the local Valley Corvette Club will be having their club meeting and shootout. That is awesome, I love to see Corvette's out there tearing it up. For more info on joining their club, be sure to click on the banner below....

Also, this same Friday night, they will be running the 9.90 Super Gas class. This is where cars with electronics battle it out to see who can come closer to the 9.90 Index. The class is pretty cool. I just don't like how the cars nose over after the launch. But oh well, that is how the class works. If anyone wants to run the class, get with Isaac at the race track. He will sign you right up...

And in between all that, Texasdragracing.com will open up the Dog Pound and let the Dogs Run Free!!!...We got alot of racing to get done, so I am lookin for cooperation from everyone!...If you have a three-way, I need you in lane #10 no later than 9:00PM!!!....All the rest of the match racers need to be in lane #10 no later than 10:00PM!!!....This is going to take everyones cooperation to work out smoothly. "TEXAS TOPS CRUISE IN TODAY"

It's cruise in time again!!!..Today, Saturday July 12th, Texas Tops in McAllen will be hosting their monthly hang out and bench race session. Bring out the hot rods, show them off for the kids and spend a nice evening with fellow hot rodders. Cruise in time starts at 6:00PM and goes on until the last Hot Rod leaves. Free Ice Cream from Dairy Queen for the first 50 cars.

Texas Tops is located on Old 83, near the intersection of McColl Rd. If you are coming from Harlingen, exit at Jackson Rd, hang a right on Old 83 and travel about half a mile. You will see the Dairy Queen on the left. If you are coming from the Mission, Texas area, exit on Jackson, make your way to Old 83 and hang a left. Same thing, go about half a mile and the Dairy Queen will be on your left. At the last Cruise In, Ronnie Martin brought out his awesome Turbo Mustang. Let's see who shows up today. See you all there at 6:00PM!!!.....

"RULES OF ENGAGEMENT"

Que? Engagement? Quien se va a casar? What the hell is the mod talking about?...haha...Well guy's, tomorrow is D-Day. I want to thank all of you guy's that are coming out to race tomorrow night. We really do appreciate it. I also want to thank the board sponsors for their support of our website.

Before the race, these are just a few things I want to mention. These things will help our race run smoother and help the track, help us to get our races done in a timely manner. If we were just running one or two match races, this would not matter, but with all these match races, we need to make sure we follow this simple agenda.

1.) All Match Races will be run on a Pro-Tree (Spot Holder still has lane choice)

2.) All 3-Way Racers (1st Round) Must be in lane #10 at 9:00PM Sharp!!!....

3.) All Finals (Last Round) Racers Must be in lane #10 at 10:00PM Sharp!!!.....

And that is it. Simple and easy. Following these rules for tomorrow night will ensure that we get the races done on time and our race fans will get to watch the show early. Keep in mind, along with our Match Races, Edinburg International Racetrack is hosting the Valley Corvette Club Shootout and the Super Gas 9.90 Index Race. So they are going to have a lot going on.

Why the Pro-Tree? Well, because it will make it easier for the track staff to just set one light for all of us. And it will keep any mistakes or confusion from happening. Nothing worse than asking them for a Full Tree and they give you a Pro-Tree, or vice-versa. When that happens, the racers feel cheated and it just basically screw everything up. Again, thank's a bunch for your support and we will see you at the races.....

"7/2/08 TRACK PICS & VIDEO"

Does this weather suck or what? We had all these plans to do a motor swap and just spend the entire weekend working on the hotrods. But now, it's all wet and muddy and crappy. Oh well, nothing left to do but play virtual hotrodding and update Texasdragracing.com. So, how about you waste 10 minutes of your life watching the track action from this past Wednesday night? The video is full of great action, great music and it will help you forget the rain.

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

Hope you all enjoyed that. Next is up the always awesome photo gallery. Well, it's not so awesome this time around. Seems our 14 year old photog was having an off-day. That's the same thing as a bad hair day, except it involves a camera. Thought I would explain that for you guys who have no clue what in the hell I am talking about. The pics are blurry, some are dark and well, they are just about the most awful pics we have gotten in a long time...LOL!...Enjoy....I'll be back in a little while with updates on our upcoming Match Race Friday.

Got a call from S & P Racing today. They are going to rent the track this Friday for some test & tune. They are looking for anyone else who wants to join in. The rental time is from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. They are needing 7 more teams to split the cost. If you have $100.00 to spare, it's a great deal. If you want to join in, give Roy Perez or Ruben Salinas a call.

Too much rain these last few days. The track crew tried to get it all dried up before race time, but there it just too much water in the pits. But never fear, they will be working on it from today until Friday for Match Race Madness!!!....So we are still good for Friday!

Subject: Well Mark just to let you know that we will not be making the call for that race for the 11th , we will gracefully give them our spot . The reason is Jon is getting MARRIED in 2 weeks and we have a bunch of things to take care of before then , but we will be back to race for our spot at a later date .

All right, we are working on something for Friday, July 11th 2008. What we would like to do is to have all of our Top 10 racers and our Outlaw Racers come out and run. We have the following match races already setup for that night....

Ultimate Outlaw Spot - Sylvester -vs- Tweety

#1 Spot - Charlie -vs- Flaming Cheeto

#2 Spot - Thunder Chicken -vs- The Undertaker

#5 Spot - Danny's King Kong -vs- Half-Breed Stang

#9 Spot - Stang Killer -vs- Tony's Bullet

Those are the confirmed races we have already. I also hear a certain deisel truck might be coming after the #10 Spot. Take a look at the ET's the cars run. If you think you have what it takes, post up a challenge and knock them out. We are planning on having Trophies for all the match race winners. So I hope we can get more challenges.

Now, for the dudes that have no challenges. This is a do or die day. We are at mid year and I would like everyone to come out and make at least one test hit on this day. If you cannot make it, then we will kindly ask you to vacate your spot and let someone else run for it. Stay tuned for more upates. As it stands right now, the Ultimate Outlaw Race is going to be insane. And I hear two more cars might join in. So, again...stay tuned for updates as we work our way towards July 11th and Texasdragracing.com's Match Race Madness!!!!....
