What we are fixing to do is take you back, WAAAAAY BAAACK!!!...Most of you don't know that Texasdragracing.com is the oldest drag racing site in the Rio Grande Valley. Like some sites in other cities, TDR began as a street racers site. But we weren't poser want to be "fast" street cars. No, our street cars kicked ass. So much so that we decided it was going to be safer to just take it to the track. Here is a small glimpse back to where our racers started going out to Edinburg International Racetrack to take care of business. Hope you all enjoy this and it brings back some memories for our guy's....
First up, is the man who started all of the Turbo craze in the Rio Grande Valley. Joel Cura hasn't been very active in 2008, but he is the man that thought the nitrous guy's to step it up if they wanted to keep up. This car, is Joel's second Turbo Car. Unfortunately, the car was wrecked some time later in Houston, Texas. That crash spawned off Seabiscuit. Joel will be back soon, but first, a glimpse of where it began.....

Next up, is another big dog. Rigo Trevino. If you street raced back in the late 90's, early 2000's, then you remember this monster. Rigo used to street race the hell out of this car. His old Yellow Dog Camaro was famous for whooping up on the local kids. Unfortunately, like Joel's car, Rigo's Yellow Dog ran across tradegy when it caught on fire at the end of the track after a hot pass. Check this fast pass. Back in the day when we street racers asked the track not to show our times.

Next up, is a video of a much talked about Match Race between a local supercharger car and a Corpus area supercharger car. Ralph Olivarez was the man who brought Pro Charger, Vortech and many other supercharged cars to the Rio Grande Valley. Working out his AF1M Shop in Mission, Texas, Ralph put this awesome Red Coupe together. Like the cars before, Ralph's red coupe was a street car. And Ralph would drive it anywhere in the Rio Grande Valley for a race, if the cash was right. Let's see if you old schooler's know what became of the Grey Coupe in this video...

Up next is a video of my good friend and avid Texasdragracing.com fan, FRANKIE G!!!...Before Franky was a DJ, he was a street racer. And his weapon of choice back then was this juiced Chevrolet El Camino. Don't know what ever happened to the Elky, maybe Frankie can come in here and give us an update...

Here is another classic. How about the original "ICEMAN" out Donna, Texas. Though he has moved on to Harley Davidson's, Alex is still a Texasdragracing.com fan and I have seen him in the stands at the track during our big match races. Maybe one day Alex will come back and join us for some fun. Back in the day, Alex's Camaro was definitely a force to be reckoned with.

And finally, your's truly. This video brought back a lot of memories. Some of you all might remember my old yellow Nova, which later became known as "The Pepino" because of it's dark green color. Back then, this was my ONLY car. This car carried my three boy's around and my wife often drove it to the grocery store. Packing a 406 cube "O'Reilly Auto Parts" built small block, a TH700R4 overdrive transmission and a secret shot of juice, it was definitley one of the fastest "true" street cars back in the day.
A little background on this race. Back then, I was just a Texasdragracing.com fan and I used to post on here about my car. Well, I some how pissed off a guy in Corpus and he decided he was going to bring his "street car" down here and kick my ass. So a date was agreed upon and the race was set at Edinburg International Racetrack. Well, take a look at what he showed up with...LOL!..It was supposed to be a "street car -vs- street car" race. Well, I had already opened my big mouth, so we had to race. Now, before the race, I made it clear to the guy that my Nova did not have a roll cage. And back then, if you ran an 11.99 without a cage, you were out!..The track would ban you and you were gone. So I told him, I will run you to the 1/8 mile only. Since that is what the track told me I could do....Well, check out the video. I beat him to the 1/8 and let off. He kept going to the 1/4 and claimed the win....LOL!...Oh well, them's the break's....

I hope you guy's really enjoyed this blast from the past. And I want to thank Gene Lujan for providing the Analog Hi8 Camera. And I especially want to thank my friend Abel Puentes for recording the memories. We have some more video's to thru and we will post them as we are finding them. Again, I hope you all have enjoyed this and thank you for your support all of these years of Texasdragracing.com...."THE FASTEST AND OLDEST HEADSUP WEBSITE IN THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY"
