CARS THAT SHOULD MAKE THE TRUE 10.5 RACE

Author:

[Edit]

Date Posted: 11:51:25 07/02/09 Thu

I have compiled a list of Valley cars that I think should be able to race at the True 10.5 race on July 25th.

Big Red - Joel Cura
Silver Fox Turbo Stang - Ronnie Martin
The Ghost Stang - Tommy Hearn
Big Ford Stang - Juan Molina
The Undertaker Chevelle - Henry Thomae
The Bounty Hunter Chevy II - Ruben Ybarra
The Phenom - Ralph Olivarez (driver)
The Reaper Stang - Orlando (Alice, Tx)
The Flaming Cheeto Nova - Jeff
The Black Bastard - Jeff
1/4 Mile Killer Camaro - Faustino Hernandez
Venom Chevy Stang - Tommy Hernandez
Tweety Nova - Sergio Garcia (Ponle True 10's)
The Widow Maker Chevelle - Bridgie
Big Bad Blown '69 - Rigo Trevino
Thunder Chicken - Ruben Salinas

Since they are not speaking up. I figured I would name them all...LOL! I know there are more cars out there that qualify for the rules. All you have to do is be willing to tame the beast on True 10.5's on July 25th. Don't know about you guy's, but if I owned a Speed Shop, I would be offering some good deals on True 10.5 tires right now..LOL!

Again, these are just suggestions guys. If some of you can't make it due to money, health issues or you are just plain scared, then we understand. You can just sit in the stands with the rest of the kids and the women. We understand. No pressure. Just make sure you wear some sun guard. Wouldn't want your skin to get burnt.

Wow, talk about forgetting to post pics...LOL! I was looking thru my server and it seems that I forgot to post up the pics from Wednesday the 17th. Maybe it's because we couldn't get the track action video to load up? Well, stay tuned for this one. I will see if we can get the track action video for the 17th loaded to the server. Thanks to my buddy Abel for working this race day for us.

We somehow lost all of the action pics from Saturday's event. We apologize for this. This is the first time this has happened to us since we took over the site. If anything changes, I will post it up as soon as possible. Again, congratulations to all of the winners in their respective classes.

This was out first time going out to the once a month HEB cruise-in and I got to tell ya, we were impressed. We got there a little early, thinking we would grab a good spot. And boy were we wrong. When we got there at 5:30pm, the place was already packed. So, we did the best we could and found ourselves a nice parking spot. The HEB crew was really nice and they even had some workers walking around selling ice-cold water for only $1.00...Oh yeah, and everyone that brought a car for a free hotdog and a Coke. Now how do you like that? I know we will be back to the next show this month.

But I do know that they are gone. So, enjoy what we do have and we will be back with more.

Congratulations once again to Espericueta Racing for their win this past Friday in the Pro-Comp 5.50 Index race. Ray has won this race three times in a row. That is simply awesome! Runner-up for the race was Faustino Hernandez. Putting up a good fight all the way to the finals. In Pro-Gas, Homer Ybarra went head to head with Dave Patterson and his Terminator Corvette. It was like an all Purple Rain final..LOL! In this race, Homer took the win when Mr. Patterson lit up the evil red bulb. Don't know why, but neither Homer or Mr. Patterson came up for their win pics or trophies. Hope they at least picked up their checks. Well, pics of their cars will have to do.

In the Quarter Mile Clash, it was Charlie Deleon going head to head with Rollie's Quicksilver Camaro. The Quicksilver Camaro took the win. Congratulations to the Quicksilver crew. In the Quick Class, it would be a young Pennington taking out Albert "The Muffler Man". Old man got too excited and pulled too soon. Giving Pennington an easy win. Good job to all the winners.

I usually do not post about stuff like this. But, dammit, I liked the freak. I grew up listening to Michael Jackson. We were there for the TV debut of Thriller. I remember my parents, brother and sister all gathered around the TV to see this huge video release. Call him what you will, Michael Jackson kicked ass and influenced a lot of today's artists. Tomorrow is all Michael Jackson day at the office. Breaking out the white glove and red jacket...Oh Yeah......doing the moon walk. In his honor, I will be loading the Texasdragracing.com Music Jukebox full of Michael's hits. Give it a listen tonight. God speed Mike, you will be missed....

A while back, someone made a post about finding a hood on the road coming from the track. The hood was red and was laying on the side of the road. I think the person that posted owns a red lightning and is from Brownsville. I hear his name was Joe, but I am not sure. If anyone can help out finding this person, we sure would appreciate it. I own the car that hood came off of. If you have any info, please call me at 956-655-2835 and ask for Mark.

Got some nice shots last night at EIRT. Total is a little over 100 pics. Some nice rides out last night, including a 2010 Camaro. Some people are still complaining about the resto-mod look of the 2010 Camaro. But, myself, I like it...a lot. Especially in the color of the car from last night. Car wasn't really all that fast. But then again, the darn things weight over 4000 pounds! Yikes! That's more than a 1972 Dodge Polara...LOL!

We also had a couple of match races last night. We had Tony "Bullet" vs The Shop Truck, for the #10 Spot. Tony took an easy win when The Shop Truck broke an axle, or maybe two..heh. Running for the #8 Spot was El Chapulin vs Little Monster. El Chapulin, took the win again. But word is the motor was hurt during the run. Charlie said they will be working on it this weekend to get it ready for next weeks races.

Don't forget, the Cruise In tonight will be at Chic-Fil-A in Mission, Texas, off Expressway 83 and Shary Rd. Tonights focus will be on Pontiac's. But, if you don't have one, don't worry. Bring out whatever you have and show it off. Even if it's not perfect, bring it out. It's all about having a fun time, hanging out with fellow gear heads. See you all out there tonight around 6:00PM. I leave you to the pics from last night, enjoy.

The turn out for the cruise in yesterday was insane. At one point, I swear there were well over 100 cars there. We had a great Pontiac showing. As well as an awesome mix of different muscle cars, street rods, exotics, you name it. Now this is what I am talking about when we talk about a cruise in. The spectator count was in the 100's as well. Chic-Fil-A provided us with some awesome chicken sandwiches and mother nature brought beautiful weather to the show. Thanks to everyone that participated. To those of you who stayed home, all I can say is, get off your lazy butts and come on out to a cruise in. See you all at the next one.

What is it going to take to get a race around here? Henry Thomae is packing a loaded weapon and he has no one to fire it at. The Overtaker Nova has made numerous passes in the 7 second zone and it seems to have scared away all of the other so called "fast" race teams. It is hard to believe that in the entire Rio Grande Valley, Henry cannot get one single car to line up next to him. If this was Houston, Texas, there would be 20 cars ready to go. Love him or hate him, Thomae talks the talk and walks the walk.

We thought we had a race with one crew from the RGV, but word from the pits is, and I quote, "They will not put up their $60,000 race car against Henry's $15,000 piece of junk." Does this mean Henry will have to go out and buy a $60,000 ride just to get a decent race? Now we don't have $60,000 to get this race going. But we do have race fans and fellow racers who want to see a good race. So, Texasdragracing.com is starting a pot. We are throwing in $100 to get this race going. Any money thrown into the pot will go to the winner of the race. How about it, anyone else want to throw a few bucks into this so we can finally see a side by side 7 second headsup race at Edinburg International Race Track? Post up your donations and lets get this done.

I apologize to the match racers for getting these up so late. Had a lot of work lately and when I get home, it's more work then crash. Had my son make the video's for me so I could post them when I got home. Now if I can only teach him how to post them for me...LOL! Anyway, tonight we have the video's from the match races last Friday. Enjoy....

Just a quick note to say congrats to Henry and Sergio for their great side by side runs and also to say just how hard it is to run like that. Both Henry and Sergio are experienced drivers and my hats off to them.

With them running as fast as they did everyone might think its easy to put a big motor in, spray it, and run fast. Just a couple of quick tips for everyone.

1st Its great to go fast but take measured steps. This past Friday all of the spot drivers Henry, Sergio, Ed, Ybarra, Charlie, and Jason all made early test hits to see what the track would take and how to set up the car. good job guys but its something we can all learn from. The more runs down the track the better. In fact, on henry's first run he spun the tires and on his way back didn't even stop at the pits, he went straight back to the lanes for another hit to see what adjustments he had to do. Something we can all learn from.
2nd know your car, check it frequently, and have the right stuff on the car for the speed your running. It ain't easy stopping close to 3,000 lbs but you'd be surprised how many guys might still have drum brakes, or not check their brakes or brake fluid, and then when things go wrong they look for an answer or blame. Take the time to make sure your car is good to go everytime you go to the track.
3rd know when to let off. In Jason's run against charlie, he was clearly in front but really started getting loose past the 1/8 mile. He let off and charlie took the win. Better to lose the spot then the car so good job Jason. when things like this happen its back to the drawing board to get the right shock setting or the right tire pressure so we can get down the track.
Next know the track. Even though most cars can make it down the track all out some do have problems. The track is the same for everyone so that menas that some cars may need more tuning then others. Turbo cars might re-act diffeently then nitrous cars. Soft shock settings may react diffeently then stiff settings. But test and test and see what works best for you to get quickly and safely down the track.

I truly hope everyone has a great and safe racing season and take the time to do it right.

Want to thank Valenzuela Auto Service for coming on board and posting up some challenges. We have been watching their progress and we noticed they were getting faster and faster. The Little Monster is just that. A monster. I have seen this Stang run and it is no slouch. The Little Monster will be going head to head against Charlie Deleon's Chapulin Stang for the #8 Spot. The spot now belongs to the Quicksilver Camaro. But, Quicksilver has until Friday night to race or lose the spot. We will give them to 10:00PM to be in the staging lanes to defend the spot. If not, then The Little Monster and Chapulin are going at it.

From the same team, we have The Shop Truck, coming out for the very first time running for the #10 Spot. We were thinkin of challenging for this spot with my sons Ram Air Trans Am, but once we got the pics, we decided to sit this one out. This truck is FAST! with a capital F! Charle Deleon's Slow-Maro is going to have it's hands full with this one. Come on out to Edinburg International Race track tomorrow night and check out some awesome match races. Brought to you courtesy of the racers of Texasdragracing.com.....See you all there....

Man, was Friday night weird or what? Those of you who were out there know what I am talking about. There were multiple oil downs, the foam blocks in the center of the track were knocked out at least three times. One car got its throttle stuck and went right down the middle knocking out ALL the blocks. Then, there were multipe oil downs, water downs, man downs, you name it...LOL! Then there were the racers who did not bother to read the rules. We had guy's show up with out headlights, mufflers, you name it. Despite all this, we still managed to get one race done before an oil down right at the end of the night shut everything down to one lane. Because of this, we were not able to get the race for the #8 Spot done. Guess we will have to revist that one. So, Rollie, when would you and El Chapulin like to try it again? Post up and let me know. Here are the pics from Friday night. We will be back with the video's....

Running a little late with the updates, as usual..LOL! Anyway, last weekend, we went over to the Haringen Dairy Queen Cruise In. They have it every Saturday, but the best time to go is on the last Saturday of the month. Met out there with Johnny from Rio Hondo and even Juan Molina was out showing off a new Camaro. Heck, even Bridgi was out there. Maybe we should have some huge TDR lower Valley meet at the end of June. I know a lot of racers from the area that would show. Racers like Tommy Hearn, Henry Thomae, Ruben Ybarra, the Hernandez brothers. It sure would make for a cool time. Well, make plans to be there and we will see you all out there.
