Saturday was going to be a great day of racing. The track was going to have their Summer Bracket Bash and Pro-Street. Unfortunaltly, a freak rain storm shut everything down. Some say the track called it too early. But I think they did the right thing. For one thing, I had a bunch of people call me to say they weren't going to go. Then you know spectators were not going to show either. Not to mention how long it would take the track to get the track prepped again. Oh well, maybe next time...

Got a call from the "Hired Gun." Driver for the Phenom Crew. He asked me to go ahead and post them up as a back up for the #1 Spot. If for some reason, Henry Thomae or Rigo Trevino cannot make the call on the 22nd, the Phenom will be there to take their place.

"TURBO TERRORS AT EIRT"

Date Posted: 23:44:01 08/16/08 Sat

There is an unspoken battle going on in the Valley right now. A battle of wits, horsepower and respect. And right now, the Turbo cars are winning that war. What we are talking about is, the race to the 7's on True 10.5's is on! Now, don't get me wrong, two Valley cars have already accomplished this feat, but not on Rio Grande Valley soil. And for us down here, that's where it counts.

The two cars that have been there, elsewhere are Ron Martin's Turbo Stang and Angel "Nemesis" Padilla's Blue Coupe. Both cars have been there and done that. And they haven't done it just once. Both have been there various times. Thing is, the narrow lanes of Edinburg International Racetrack have not yet been conquered.

One of the cars deep into this chase is Danny's Phenom Stang, piloted by Ralph Olivarez, also known as, "The Hired Gun." Last night, at EIRT, The Phenom crew gave it a hell of a run with not one, not two, but three sub 8.50 second passes on True 10.5's. Granted, they are running on 29x10.5 tires, but the fact remains that even then, this Turbo Monster is still ripping at the EIRT race surface, fighting for every inch of grip. Check out the three passes in this video......

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

Also out doing some testing last night was Orlando and his Reaper Stang, straight out of Alice, Texas. Yeah, Orlando is not from here, but the Valley is where his roots are. The Reaper Stang spends so much time down here, that they have no choice but to call the RGV home. The Reaper is not part of that True 10.5 battle, as far as I know. Since this Boosted Fox runs on some pretty big slicks. But I know the effort was made at one time. Weather or not Orlando will switch back to True 10.5's remains to be seem. Thing is, by the look of things, The Reaper is making some serious power because, as big as those tires are, they still beg for mercy everytime Orlando hits the go-pedal. Check out this video of his testing last night...

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

Keep an eye out for the True 10.5 Race To The 7's!!!...Word is, there are some Chevy's in the works that will not take this Turbo Mustang invasion lightly. Some say the battle will be done on August 22nd!!!...Stay tuned to the Fastest Website in South Texas for updates!!!...

Got a call from my friend and TDR Fan, Beto Salinas. He is looking to get on the board with his nice 3rd Gen Camaro. He doesn't know what it will run yet, but he feels the #9 Spot is a good place to start. He will be out at EIRT on Friday, running the car for the 1st time. We wish him luck and hope to see him in the Top 10 soon.

Here is the other challenger for the #9 Spot, the Stallion 281 Stang. Awesome looking rides guy's. It's nice to see some daily driver cars coming on board. We will see you all on the 15th for this 3-Way Match Up.

I cannot believe we made the show. And not because we drove the El Camino to the track on Friday, no, that was easy. Except for an alternator that was wired up wrong and we ended up stranded at a gas station. No, that really wasn't a problem. We took care of that in under 5 minutes. The real problem reared it's ugly head on Saturday, about an hour before we were to depart to Weslaco, Tx for the cruise.

You see, before leaving on Saturday, we went thru the entire truck/car, changing every bulb we could find. Just to be on the safe side. Well, it was here that the problem began. You see, after putting it all back together, we decided to go for another test drive, before the actual drive. Everything went well, or so we though. While I was inside getting ready to leave, my son, Abel, came into the house and said.."Hey Dad, do you know you are missing a taillight?" I said, huh? "You mean a bulb is still out?" He said, "no...you are missing the entire taillight."

Oh my God, it was right then and there that I remembered that I forgot to bolt on the rear passenger taillight. This can't be happening. No way! I mean, c'mon, you can't just walk into O'Reilly Auto Parts and say, hey, give me a taillight for my 1967 El Camino. No, you cannot do that. So, after getting up off the floor, my son, Chris, and I took of, retracing our route. I walked about a mile on foot, looking thru heavy weeds. I mean, c'mon, we just had a hurricane. The weeds were as tall as I was. By the way, if anyone is missing a Spinner Style hub cap in a size 14", I found it.

Well, after about 45 minutes of searching, we finally found it. Yeah, broken in one million pieces. Oh the humanity. Who, who would drive over a rare piece of automotive history such as this? Who ever it was, I bet he drove a Ford...LOL! Well, we gathered what we could and made our way to the auto parts store to see what else we could find. One of the large pieces we did find was a clear lens that fits inside of the red lens. It was this clear lens that saved the day. A little red tape, some crazy glue and we were back in business. Check it out, see if you can tell where we repaired the taillight.

Now, the cruise. Or should I say, Dolly Destruction Cruise 2008...LOL! Man, it was about 15 minutes into the drive that I wished I was driving my modern muscle car. Couldn't do that though. That car was being driven by sons Junior and Abel.

And they were having a blast. My other boy, Chris and I? Well, our highlight was driving past all those poor people in line in back of some Salvation Army vans who were handing out free meals for flood victims. Yeah, I felt pretty crappy. Anyway, I have gone on long enough. So I am going to speed it up a little. Much like our cruise. We decided to cut it short and not follow the rest of the cruisers. The 4.10 gears were killing us and the temperature gauge said 230 degrees and climbing...Yikes!...Over all, the car show turned out awesome! Here is a picture gallery and some random pics from the cruise.

Our hardluck award has to go to Joe (Troublemaker) from Raymondville, Texas. They started the drive to Weslaco at about 5:00pm and they never made it. This picture was snapped at Fuddruckers in McAllen, Texas. That is far as the 'ole Troublemaker Malibu could make it. Problems with a bad fuel pump, a broken starter and finally, running out fuel kept them from making the show. Thank's for trying Joe. We really do appreciate it.

By the way, the next car cruise in is scheduled for this coming Saturday. There is no cruise for this one. Just a good 'ole hangout and bench race session. This one will be at the Dairy Queen/Texas Tops on Old 83 in McAllen, Texas. I will keep you all updated on that. Thank's for your time and we will be back with a little bit of video footage of the cruise. Good night...

All right, got some cool match race video's for you guys. Our match races didn't go off as planned due to some cars not showing and others having problems. But we managed to get some good races going for the race fans.

First up, going for the #3 Spot was Rey Espericueta -vs- Ruben Salinas. It was supposed to be Rigo -vs- Ruben, but Rigo was having some small issues with the blown Camaro, so he sat this one out. The result of the race? Well, congratulations to Rey Espericueta and crew for finally making to our Top 10 and going way up to the #3 Spot. I see some serious action from the Probem Child Nova in the future. Make sure to check out the video. Rey & Ruben put on one hell of a race.

**CLICK ON PIC FOR VIDEO**

Going for the #4 Spot was going to be Juan Penaflor and Danny Ybarra. Well, Juan did not finish his new Mustang in time for the race so Henry Thomae, driving Danny's S-10, made a pass for the Spot. So he wouldn't feel lonely, Darryll Siscoe, piloted Henry's Blade Nova and they put on a good race for the fans. Check out the video...

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

All right, since Danny moved up to the #4 Spot, that left the #5 Spot open for the taking. Jason Cantu asked me if he could make a pass for it. Told him, go for it. So, again, so he wouldn't feel lonely, Danny and his S-10 stepped up to the plate. Unfortunatley, lack of a fire jacket for the driver of the S-10 prevented him from making a pass. So off went Jason on a very impressive run. Check out the mph!....

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

Also, doing some True 10.5 Test & Tunning last night was The Phenom Crew and the "Hired Gun". Looks like they are getting some bugs worked out and the Phenom is picking up some serious ET's. Oh, by the way, Ralph, I spoke with Angel Padilla and he said the number you are shooting for is an 8.20 on a true 28x10.5 tire. Looks like the race for the 7's is on and it is looking like a Ford Mustang is going to do it. By the way, this is just the fastest pass the Phenom made last night. There are two more video's in the Track Action video, which will be up tomorrow.

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

All right, congrats again to all the winners of last nights races and to the guy's who are now on our Top 10. And, I should note, that we now have two Imports in our Top 10. I think this is the first time this has happened in the history of Texasdragracing.com...Good job to everyone and I will be back with more updates tomorrow...

Just checked the tracks calender and we will not be able to run "Match Races" on the 15th. The track is having their Bracket Bash race and that means, no open Test & Tune. If you all want, we can postpone them until Friday, August 22nd.

For tomorrow night, S&P Racing's Thunder Chicken Nova had called out the #3 Spot. Faustino could not make it, so he gave up the spot. Now, The Flaming Cheeto and The Thunder Chicken were supposed to run, but I was informed by Area 51 Racing that they will not be able to make the call either. So, The Thunder Chicken will be making a solo pass for the #3 Spot Friday night.

El Gallito, #4 Spot, was called out by Danny Ybarra a couple of weeks ago. The race has to happen tomorrow, or El Gallito will move down a spot. Bridgi, call Henry and let him know if you guy's are going to make it tomorrow night.

For the #1 Spot, Rigo & Charlie, I spoke with Henry and he is ready to do it tomorrow night, if you all. If not, the race will have to wait until the 22nd also. Let me know what you guy's want to do. Would be cool to get this done as soon as possible.

For all the other match races. Let me know who can make it tomorrow and he will wait until the 22nd. Please post up so we will know what is up. Thanks!

Dudes, some of you all need to chill out with the conspiracy theories. Seriously, take a moment and remove that tin foil from your head. I mean, c'mom, to say that if Rigo had won, the video would have already been up? Truth is, I have a life, just like some of you. I have three Sons and a Wife that share my life. I cannot spend every minute on here posting pictures, updates and video's. If I am taking a while to post something up, it's because I am very busy doing other things. And chances are, we are gathering more info for the board.

Take yesterday for example. We had the RGVOLDCARS.COM Rod Run and Cruise In. It took us most of the day to get the El Camino going. We have been wrenching on this thing hardcore for about 3 weeks now. Spending money we shouldn't be...LOL! But, it's fun and we wanted to make the show. Well, more on that later. For now, here are the video's from Friday night's match races. Then I got to get to bed cause like most of you, I have to get to my regular 8-5 job.

First up, the race for the #1 Spot between Charlie and Rigo Trevino. I read the posts by Rigo Jr. earlier and he has a point. Some of you cannot appreciate a nice car. Look at it like this, at least Rigo is trying. He is out there, making an effort. You know, I spoke to Charlie after the race and he told me, if it had not been for Rigo redlighting, there was no way he was going to catch him. Even though they both had similar ET's, check out Rigo's mile per hour. The car is strong. Just a few more bugs to work out. In any event, you can't take away from Charlie the fact that he has been the #1 Big Dog for a long time. People are scared to line up with him. And with a record like his, I don't blame them. Well, here is the video..check it out.....

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

Next up is the race for the #8 Spot between Cesar Tamez and Mike Ocanas. This one was a daily driver battle between two modern muscle cars. It looked like a close race, but the low mph by Mike's Terminator Cobra tells me there is more left in it. Check out the video....

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

This next race is another daily driver, modern muscle race for the #10 Spot. My son, Jr. was driving the "Toecutter" Trans Am. He was really excited because this was his first match race. It's awesome, one day you see them taking their first steps, the next, they are in a muscle car at the track. He lost his first race, but he didn't care. He knows we can always come back later and he had a great time. Check out the video....

**CLICK PIC FOR VIDEO**

We were supposed to have a race for the #9 Spot between Noe Moreno in his 350Z and Ruben Salinas Jr. But Ruben Jr. did not make the call. As a result, Noe made a solo pass for the spot. Sorry Noe, we didn't get you on video. Remember I told you to stay in the back of the line? When you came forward, my kids were not ready to start recording so they didn't get your pass. No problem though, we will get you on the next one. Thanks again to everyone for racing with us and I will be back with more updates tomorrow. Good night...

Just got word that Angel crashed at the Fun Ford Event in Bristol, TN this weekend. Word is, Angel was out of the car right after the crash. He is said to have suffered a small foot injury, but he is otherwise ok. By looking at the pics, it looks like something broke or a leak got under the tires. The car, running in the right lane, made a sharp turn to the left and smacked the wall on the left side.

**PHOTOS COURTESY OF FUNFORDEVENTS.COM**

**PHOTOS COURTESY OF FUNFORDEVENTS.COM**

For those of you that don't know, Angel is running all of the Fun Ford races this year. He is doing really well in his class, Street Renegade. At last check, Angel was 2nd in points, right behind Travis Franklin. As you can see by the pics, Angel was running the Marroon car which he stepped up to in order to be more competetive with some of the faster cars up North.

After this crash, Angel will be switching back to the "Nemeis" Mustang. Which we have all seen down here in the Valley. That car currentely holds the record in the Rio Grande Valley for a True 10.5 car, running on 28x10.5 slicks. Glad to hear Angel is ok and I will keep you all updated on his progress.

By the way, I should also mention that Angel is doing this out of his own pocket. He and his crew are staying in a motor home and doing the best they can. If anyone would like to help them out, he is open to sponsors. He is willing to put your company logo on his car and he will be going all the way to the end. If anyone wants to help out Angel and his crew, please give him a call at 409-750-1100. Even if you can't help, give him a call and let him know that the Rio Grande Valley is rooting for him.

Had a match race on Wednesday night. It was an Import vs Domestic brawl between Jason Cantu's TNP Civic and Tony Torres' Bullet Stang. Earlier in the evening, Jason ripped out a low 11 second pass at 140mph! Tony wasn't doing to shabby either, with ET's in the 11.30 zone. The warriors met at the tree at about 10:30pm and the fans crowded the fence. It looked like we were going to have a serious battle, but Jason had problem building boost. When the tree came down, Tony pulled the trigger and Jason tried his best, but the 4-banger could not unleash it's fury. Check out the video for the results.....

Up next is the World Famous Track Action Video. This one is about 10 minutes long and includes some sweet track's by RUN-DMC and some awesome racing. If you like nitrous, turbos and blowers, then this is a video you must see.

Check this out. An '08 Challenger made it out to the track. The owner joined the EIRT 100mph Club by running well into the 100mph zone with ease. That was cool, but what was even cooler is that the Challenger is now sporting a Texasdragracing.com sticker on the back windsheild....Awesome! Turns out the owner is a TDR Fan too. Look for the Challenger in the Track Action video, which will be up today.
