• Maybe it was a mother's instinct - not that she was this child's mother, but the instinct of a woman who has been a mother, but she was awake.. she had woken up the last couple of months whenever the baby did, but had usually been able to drift back off because Gabe managed things. Tonight, however, she'd been laying awake for a while now, and finally, she crawled out of bed, her blonde hair mussed and hung loose down around her shoulders, a pair of boy cut shorts and a baggy tshirt covering her wiry frame, she crept to the door, listening, and then down the hallway to his room, pausing for a moment at the closed door and finally knocking softly, hesitantly, before cracking it a bit. • He looked past him, tipping his head to the side as he let out a soft breath. As much as he hated to admit that he couldn't handle his daughter, he was happy to see her. • She shook her head a little, she tipped her body sideways to slide in the door and then let it close behind her, making her way toward him, bright cobalts on the baby, ivories making good work of her lower lip. "You want me to try?" She tipped her head -- it had been some time since she'd had an infant.. but she figured she still had the touch - although she was sure he was a competent father, more than competent in fact, she knew he'd never had much experience with them that young. • He reached out immediatly, one thumb untucking her lip from her teeth before he winked lightly. "Sure..." He handed over the baby, letting her cuddle into Ace's chest as he watched and then leaned in to press a kiss to Ace's forehead softly. He smiled a bit to lessen the weight of the compliment but he meant it whole heartedly, he wouldn't know what he was doing half the time if he didn't have her guidance and there was no one else in the world he would want looking over his children. • She took the baby into her arms easily, looking up and flashing him a brief smile at the comment before she turned her attention back to the small child, holding her to her chest very tenderly - every action so very gentle - she loved the smell of babies, of powder and newness, and realized just how fortunate she'd been to have the two -- one of her own and one just like this little one - Peter didn't know any different - Ace was his mom and that was that. The baby fussed a bit longer, but eventually settled, her thick dark lashes drawing lower on her cheeks as she attempted to evade sleep a little while longer. She finally looked back up at Gabe. • She was determined to keep this as a friendship and nothing else mostly for the sake of the children - she didn't want to have anything happen between the two of them that would make them move out - her children had grown to really love Gabe and look up to him, and she believed consistency was important - they'd already had enough of leaving someone they loved - she knew they couldn't take anymore. She felt herself withdraw now, as she rose, crossing her arms over her chest easily and nodding - she was ready to go to her room for a good cry. • Maybe the entire reasoning was just that she required drama and he would have made it far too easy for her to just fall into his arms and resume a wonderful, normal life that she so yearned for. " she smirked a little bit, dropping out of the robe with as little shame as he'd had in the shower, and pulling the tshirt on over her head, her underwear also wet, she got rid of them, thankful that the shirt was long enough to be reasonable, and then crawled toward the head of the bed, digging under the covers like a child.
