Subject: My take on the Miss US pageant

This whole situation of this new system where you can enter the prelim for $170 is this........
First off, I emailed the director and asked simple questions that are asked about pageants - who is the director, what is/are the qualifications of the director, what are the prizes

The director would only give me a first name and I asked twice about it (my first red flag). She said that she was a former director of Miss American Beauty. (second red flag) Miss American Beauty is a new system ran by a wonderful director from San Antonio. The FIRST pageant is going to be held in July. She does not have and has never had a director by the first name of this individual. This pageant is incorporated and is trademarked - therefore, there cannot be another Miss American Beauty pageant system.
So, giving this individual the benefit of the doubt, I asked her again if she would give me her last name and was she sure that that was the name of the pageant system. She would not give her last name - and actually blew the question off and said that she was the director.

I have been in the pageant industry for a LONG time. I have seen many pageant systems come and go. If this individual claims that she uses another name (whether she has two names or not) - it is fraud. If she is a business owner and uses a "DBA" - that is another story. HOWEVER, a business name (whether DBA or not) has never been used and has never been mentioned by this woman. Which leads me to believe that (a) she doesn't know what one is (b) she doesn't have one or (c) she is intentionally trying to mislead.
She also mentions that she knows how crazy pageant moms are and she does not want to get her family involved, etc. If that were the case, why would she run a pageant system in the first place?

There are a lot of reputable systems out there that have a long history of excellence. They give out great prizes and are very cost efficient. In my opinion, when I'm spending my hard earned money - I'm going to go with someone that has a full name and has a history.
