How much power is left for Apollymi? Is this going to leave her vulnerable to someone/something? I forget what book it's in,but doesn't Stryker have some kind of grudge against her now,and have it in for her? Because this is what I am having trouble reconciling-

If the Destroyer has so much power that she can afford to lend it out to Kat & outright give some to Tory,how is it that she hasn't broken herself out of the pen yet? *G* Is her power endless? I think not.But power seems to get passed around like salt at the dinner table lately.

I wonder about that too.. I think that Mom helped Ash in the whole death of his son thing was what ticked him at her but not sure. As for power helping her get out, I don't think that has anything to do with her getting out only certain things can allow her to leave. Some comments I've read elsewhere complained about a lack of passion between Ash and Tory. Do you feel something was missing?

My own response was that Ash had thousands of years to associate sex with humiliation, pain, abuse and manipulation. That's not going away overnight just because he's met Miss Right. If he suddenly turned into some raunchy superstud, to me it would have been icky and false. I founnd the gentleness between him and Tory quite touching.

Part of it,for me,was how I feel about Tory-that I don't really know her,etc.But I think you hit it on the head,Beth-his first experiences were of humilation & rape,pain,etc.So in many ways,he is a virgin,learning about sex all over again,discovering what it means to make love,rather than fu*k.That makes their sexual relationship a little unique,and I agree that it would have felt false to have him turn into Mr.Sexaholic with her right off the bat.Great question! I hadn't liked her much in her previous appearance as a child, but she grew on me here.

I've read some comments by people that they found her 'flatter' than they would've liked - I understand this, as I thought some of her aspects we were told about rather than demonstrated. She treasure hunts, she dives, she skydives - all we actually see her do is give a not-very-good lecture. But I will forgive that. Because what I like is the straightforward nature of her character - just what Ash needs. There are no silly misunderstandings or playing emotional games. Once she understands his horrors, she's behind him all the way.

Plus, she slaps down Artie so well. Go, Girl!

I might also mention that I like that Tory had only one brief spell of self-doubt. Once she believed in how Ash saw her as beautiful, they didn't keep harping on her as being plain.

I thought the early stages of their relationship were some of the sweetest scenes ever.There were a few times that I thought,even knowing what was coming,being forewarned,I still thought, 'This can't be right,things will work out for these two.' I do feel that there were just a few glimpses of genuine caring,something that could have been a great,enduring love,so powerful,but was snuffed out by selfish cowardice.

The exact chapters escape me,but it was after they'd been together a few times,just some of the dialogue.Before she let her fear of discovery cloud every moment she was with him,before she let it affect everything.Like I said,there were a VERY few moments *G*

But they were there,to me at least. I didn't imagine it,and I think that is part of why I felt so shell-shocked when she stood there while he died/got castrated.I guess it made me feel her betrayal all the more keenly,since I saw this chance they had,just briefly.How does the saying go,'The brightest flame burns quickest'.

I should mention that was on another board, not the official DH one, which I find quite confusing.

Jaden featured in Dream Chaser, where there's more about the bargains he makes. He seems to be linked to demons, which does go along with the introduction recently of new types of demons and the reappearance of the Charonte. Does anyone know more?

I do actually have some sympathy for Stryker. Not sure how he can be redeemed from the whole murdering Urian and sucking souls scenario, but it's going to be interesting! And learning more about Ash through Stryker should be good because it plays on SK's theme that there are always at least two sides to a story. For me,this part of the book was the best.I know some people were put off by the brutality,the endless suffering he went through,the beatings & rapes he endured on a daily basis.I got to know him that way,know who he was and what he endured.It bothered me on an emotional level,I cried & raged for his suffering & treatment as a human being,as a friend I'd come to know over the years.But the severity of it,the level of abuse really drove it home to me,all he endured.I was glad not to SEE it happening in 'real time',Sherri put me in his shoes just enough to experience it without making me watch it.

I did get a little numb to it after a while,but I wouldn't have taken away any of it,cruel as that sounds,b/c it was his past & he endured it.

I feel a bit weird admitting that I found the first half of the book had more emotional depth. It didn't make me cry (which is also weird), but maybe that's because there was just so much to cry about. I would agree that the background was necessary to make us understand Ash and what drives him. Too much torture? I can actually see instances where SK pulled back from the detail. I liked her at first,I especially liked reading the story through her eyes,the first person diary.I think it helped me get the full,wrenching impact of Ash's past w/out going overboard.I lost respect for her,however,when they came and took Ash away.I realize we are talking about the ancient world & that most women had little to no influence or say in what happened to them or anyone else,but I was mad & disappointed that she didn't put up more of a fight,even physically,to keep him safe.It seemed at odds with the same girl who had the balls to think up,then execute the rescue of her brother with only a loyal male servant for help.Her father & Styxx already knew she 'stole' Ash,and they were planning to use her to appease Apollo,so what did she have to lose by giving it everything she had,down to her last breath,into keeping him there? Or do you think she did the right thing,maybe biding her time,waiting for a second chance to help him?

AND,what kind of loving sister was she,when he was locked up in that dungeon or whatever,not to investigate further WHY he wasn't answering her?!? She just assumed he was giving her the silent treatment,when I really think,that based on the state of his mind/self-esteem when she saved him the first time,she would understand a little better,maybe be more willing to go that extra mile for someone she knows for a fact,based on previous exp.,is going to resist help?!??! Instead she tells him to go ahead and die or whatever,and she was the only person who had ever shown him kindness,that is not what he needed,to have the only person he ever trusted,to betray him in that way,to push him over the edge.Tough love is one thing,but she knew what he thought of himself & so I feel she shouldn't have made that comment.Maybe it was in the heat of anger,but it was still a selfish thing to say,and I feel it was just the first taste of betrayal by someone who supposedly loved him.Very sad.

Liked her through the diary, wanted to smack her afterwards. I got that she couldn't help him when her father grabbed him back, although I didn't really understand why it took so many months to find him a better place to hide. But her expectations of him were so selfish - wanting him to come to the temple, for example. I wrote a review for it at the site I belong to. I read it during a marathon of TWELVE HOURS! Straight.
I took my vacation...a staycation, I guess and ignored all dust bunnies, all laundry and just read and read.
And you know what? I had to put it down and walk away and then come back to it. It was that intense. It was that heartbreaking. It was that wonderful.

I think Sherrilyn met all our hopes for him. I liked her choice of heroine, I loved the dialogue... there are SO many points to ponder but no one has been here to share. So, I'm afraid to talk about it much.

And I'm curious about Jaden but why him and not Savitar?

Anyone want to talk about the SODA incident?

For me,it was a great read overall but the second half of the book was a little disappointing.I think,like Beth said,how could it ever be enough? I wanted an emotional,gut-wrenching book.I wanted to weep & cry & rage,and that's what I got,the first 400 or so pages.It met & totally exceeded my expectations,the first half.Theories i'd had for years were proven/expanded,in a nasty way.I was lost a little,in the second half,trying to know Tory,and then with her turning into the whatever-Atlantian guardian thing.Then Artie has some kind of goon squad/mafia cult thing,that annoyed me,trying to keep up.But the important thing,to me,was that it wasn't crap.I got what I wanted,at least the first half,and it was so wonderful that I think that carried me through some of the parts in the second half that bugged me. First off, let me confess, I haven't read Upon the Midnight Clear, so if there are any important new points revealed in it, I'd love to know!

Dream Chaser definitely has a few major developments and I wondered what everyone else thought about...

1. Jaden. A good new character, but I'm getting a bit confused by all these characters who are more powerful than gods...and yet not. Is he lined up to be a future hero? Would love to know the favor he's going to ask of Xypher.

2. The amulet. Obviously this has got to be important in Ash's story. A god paralyzer? The opportunities are endless, but I would bet it's going to be used against Ash.

3. A gang of Charontes living in New Orleans, with good reason to support Ash and good reason to hate Stryker? That's going to be interesting. Is an all-out war coming?

For Dream Chaser as a story itself, I liked Simone and Xypher. Hated Satara (she has soooo got to come to a nasty end). And the plot points tied together well with the revelation of her family. And Julian! So nice to see him!

As I said inside below, I loved how this was handled. Kat knows her family, so it's all there from the beginning in the way she thinks about them so naturally. It's only the reader that collapses in shock!

So sad, though, for Ash. Another example of his recklessly lashing out at someone who's hurt him (Artie) but ending up hurting innocents and himself most of all.

They share a child, something very special to Ash and there was definitely some move to see Artie in a (slightly) more sympathetic light due to Katra's recounting of Artie's conversations with her as a child in DMC. Artie will never change. That is the whole of the conversation the Ash and Katra had when they talk for the first time. She betryed him, he wouldn't forgive her. Thus hurting himself by losing the chance to watch his daughter grow. That is why Ash told Katra about pride and sometimes you have to say your sorry and really mean it. I have to say I was disappointed in how this was handled. I thought Ash was too calm. Come on look at his reaction to Nick sleeping with Simi. Yes, he told Kat he learned from that but please, he just found out he had an 11,000 year old daughter. I would have liked to see more anguish, more anger and more pain. Dark indeed. I mentioned, somewhere else, that now we have the dilemma of the Daimon's turning INSTAND Gallu from a bite, and they no longer POP. Can you imagine the army if Stryker and Kesser join forces? If they forsake being Daimon for Gallu ... what then? Okay,so we didn't get to see Stryker until the very end,when it appears that Kessar is going to push for an alliance,although he was mentioned a few times.Scary thought,BTW! So many things...I loved the fact that I didn't know the herione. Yes was I the only one who didn't know this was Katra's HEA? Second I love the way SK has weaved in the mytholgy. Sin, was great tortured hero but had to save the world. Artemis, while loving Kat, still used, lied and down right refused to help. I loved the fact that Ash loved his daughter and she loved him back. Ash really needed it!

One of the funniest parts was on page 47&48, Kat conversation with Apollymi. "...ahhh, the beauty of annihilation. There's nothing like it." The whole conversation is a hoot. Simi and Xirena are so funny together. I totally enjoyed this entire book. Two THUMBS UP!

I didn't know this was to be Katra's HEA. So you aren't alone. I found it interesting that the Sumerians predated the Atlantieans..or did I understand wrong? I really enjoyed this story and there were several shockers which were fun. I did have a problem with continually hearing how powerful Kat was but she kept getting her butt kicked, even in the beginning with the first gallu. I would have liked to see some of her power. I also felt at times she was incredibly naive. Why was she horrified at the beheading of the woman after she saw Sin say a prayer for her. Things like that bothered me. The last one (Dream hunter) just didn't grab me like usual, so I was sooooooooooo very very happy this one seems more back on form. Couple of things that haven't been mentioned here yet. I'll do seperate questions for them so here goes:

Who do you think was the human woman killed with the double bow tattoo by Kessar? I reckon that was some "hint" about a future book. She was killed, but then tossed aside. Was she in the lot that they disposed of or was she allowed to become a gallu? She was described in a fairly detailed way. Did anyone else pick up on this girlie?

It was never specifically said that the order was carried out There's no cure for turning Gallu except for what Ash did for Katra - but Kat hadn't changed all the way yet.. whether this girl is Tori or not, she'll be coming back, if she does, as a complete Gallu. But Xipher will be human , if he makes the cut, and the only way to "save" Tori is to drain her..but Xipher can't .... so um, Where was I going with this? Don't get me wrong,I LOVED this book,but I was also left with a lot of questions about Sin.Is he or isn't he a Dark-Hunter? I think I recall him telling Kat at one point that her father just 'gave him a job',so I'm assuming his soul is intact,since an Act of Vengeance is never mentioned for him(it would have been used against Artie,LOL)and also his eyes aren't black? The eyes must be b/c he was a god,though,and we know the gods can have souls,too,b/c Artie has asked Ash who he'd trust with his.

He doesn't even hunt the Daimons,although Ash & he both go after the Gallu demons,so that balances it,I suppose.But I was left with the impression that Dark-Hunter is an empty title for him.I did really enjoy the opening chapters with his fight sequences-it took me back to the good ol' days of Kyrian,Talon,Zarek,etc.I also enjoyed the way he & Kat's relationship was written.It seemed to move a little fast,but it was still believable and actually felt like a romance to me.I hardly paid attention to Geary & Arik in The Dream-Hunter b/c I never saw any great romance there,I was more focused on the mythology.It was nice for this book to have an 'older' feel to it,with the fights and the romance more a part than in recent books,IMHO.Darkside was an awesome read for me as well,but this one made me realize that my brain is tired of trying to figure out everything,and it made me long for a 'simpler' DH book,one where we have Daimons,soul medallions,and visits/events/appearances from gods & pantheons we are familiar & comfortable with.I have thrived & embraced the complexity of things along the way,now I want to relax and be able to enjoy the stories a little,I think,since there were some major, not-so-mysteries revealed in this book.I love Sherri and I love her writing,and I can't wait to go to the Vegas signing on Monday *SQUEE* but I think I am getting burned out trying to keep up with things,LOL.

The other thing is page 165,where she mentions that she can invoke her grandmother's powers.Now,since Kat's powers were/are second only to Ash's (this was mentioned in Seize,I think)this is huge to me.I feel like it is going to be very important in future books.Any ideas?

I've been looking back through the book and in DMC a blood bond is created and Ash says "This isn't a typical blood bond... Once this is done there will be no way to undo it." which actually leads me to hope that there is a way of at least undoing the blood bond he appears to have with Artie - although I don't think we know the finer details of that yet either (do we?) See,I looked at Ash & Artie's as being non-reversible after I read that part,b/c I was thinking of how Ash said it would be a highly sexual bond or whatever.Because,even though we know that Artie has always lusted for him,I have thougt several times,how could he possibly get it up for her or be interested in her at all,under the circumstances of those little trysts,LOL.I guess there is always that business of him being absolutely bound by his word once he gave it,though.BUT,Artie knows he is bound by his word,so if that's the case,then she must know that he is only responding to him b/c of his promise.Am I making any sense? I just checked something else-what about on page 104,Kat's thought about 'Her mother was forever tied to her father,even though she wanted to let him go.' Once again, SK came through with a great supporting cast. Two standouts, of course.

Zakar. To repeat my earlier question, what is it about men wih Z names that requires them to be horribly tortured? To go through life invisible, mutilated and possessed by demons. Can't wait to see the heroine who can work through that load of angst with him!

Xypher. A Skotos gone bad (or should that be badder?). Someone set themselves on fire to get away from him? WTF is going on there? I need to know and I need to know now.

Xypher was interesting,and poor Zakar,I felt bad for him.I have to agree w/Leiha,though,there are always so many stories to write as a result.It just seems like too much sometimes.If she does do Zakar's story,it could be good,b/c of all his angst,etc.,and the fact that he is now an 'other' too.Half-Sumerian god,half-Gallu demon,right? As far as I'm concerned you should be able to discuss Devil May Cry without waiting. This board is usually only active once a new book comes out. If someone comes here that means they are either ready to discuss it or to read about it. I know once I saw Beth had read it I headed right over here, LOL. That's just my opinion.

I think it's kinda strange that he pops up now,all of a sudden.I feel like maybe since Sherri answered a few things,she is creating another mystery for us to go crazy on,LOL.But,a god-killer? I've learned to not assume anything with SK, she always turns my presumptions upside down! (i.e. Kat, now looking like she's Ash's daughter!) THIA!!! yes,Geary's cousin Cynthia!!! Tell me I'm not alone in this belief,please! My reasons for it ESPECIALLY NOT being Kat now,will be in another thread,but here's why I think it's Thia:
Pros-
The "A" in her name,for one.Also,she is what,like 6'2",and that would go well with Ash's 6'8".She LOVES shopping & shiny stuff,so you just KNOW that Simi & her would get along famously-they could shop for Diamonique & "Sparklies" together,LOL.Then there's the fact of her dressing up with those horns as a shopping demon on Halloween-wouldn't Simi & Ash just love her for that,and you know they can all go trick-r-treating as matching demons,LOL.Plus,there is mention of her listening to an Andy Gibb record,and he was the Bee Gees brother,so there's the disco thing,right?

CONS-
She seems really,REALLY shallow and self-absorbed,and i just can't see Ash being drawn to someone like that-he needs a giver,not another taker like Artemis.Plus,she is named for Artemis,said to be the spitting image of her,right down to the height and red hair.But that could be the icing on the cake,if you look at it this way-
Wouldn't it absolutely just KILL Artemis to see Ash fall for and end up with a woman who looks just like her,named for her,etc.,but ISN'T her? Think of the enormous blow to her ego and her sense of self-worth.Unless,of course,she tries to pretend that Ash was so enamored of her,he had to have someone that at least looked like her.
That's really the only few drawbacks I see to her being his girl-I'm pretty sure he would HATE for his woman to have red hair and be so similar to nemesis.

First, I agree with it being very interesting Geary's boat was named "Simi". I do believe that it belonged to her father. But enough of that, NO I don't think Thia is the one. Ash can not stand the sight of Artemis why would he fall in love with a look alike. I think it is Tory. Check out page 17. Triantafyllo is her nickname from her grandfather. Who was saved by a stranger in WWII AND do you really believe that Tory is just letting go of the search for Atlantis. I don't think so. She is just biding her time until she is older. I was thinking about this, too. I remember it being said that we had met Ash's heroine before, and while I think Tory or even Thia could have a story written about them and Ash that would be good, I don't remember either of them from any previous books. OK, we all know how bad I am at theories but I'm in the Tory as Ash's heroine camp. 1. Why write a story that happens 10 years ago? It gives Tory time to grow up. 2. Tory gave up way to easily when they said the search for atlantis was off. She was AS passionate about it as Geary and if Geary can hear Appolymi it stands to reason Tory could hear her. A great reason for her and Ash to interact in the future. 3. No one has mentioned ZTs reaction when he met Tory. 4. Can I also jump in and point out that Tory is not generally a name in itself, but a nickname for Victoria (although that's not a Greek name)? It doesn't prove anything but it has an A and if Tory is a family nickname, in later books she might be known as something else completely. But she is significant - there's no way she's given up on Atlantis. No one has mentioned anything about the h/h of this book. While I enjoyed their story they weren't the focus of my attention of this book, it was more about the mythology. I think the same thing with Dark Side of the Moon. We're more interested in the other characters we meet. I also find I enjoy the books featuring Dark Hunters more then dream hunters or were hunters. Taking out the mythology what did you think of this book? What did you think of Arik and Geary?

That's an interesting point, Leiha. Here we are going on about evrything NOT related to the H/H of this book! I agree that I am more interested and enjoy DH featured books than the others. Her earliest books are still my favorites in the series (Kyrian, Talon). I almost feel like it's become SO complicated in its own mythology that in some cases the H/H take a bit of a back seat. This book was the most like that for me. I did enjoy DSOTM and Wren's story, because it allowed the mythology and the love story coexist with equal weight, heloing us learn more about the Were's & the mythology while learning about the H/H and seeing their feeling grow. I just finished and like Leiha says, my attention was not at all riveted to the H/H of this book but all the secondary characters and their background. The conflict was a good one i must admit, but the sacrifice of our hero was in my opinion a bit predictable. I enjoy the relationship between hades and persephone. That was really cute. Once again i think this book was more background information for Acheron's book. We now know where Atlantis is. Tory will not just let it go. What a great premise for Acheron to meet his heroine.
