Subject: ADDENDUM TO PART 1 Author: Owner/Moderator [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 14:42:27 12/18/21 Sat Some local leaders were starting to question after the last few pageants in Atlantic City whether it was financially beneficial to keep providing the exorbitant sums of money to the MAO to keep it there. They cited things like extra security in the form of police presence and dealing with crowds. They were concerned that they were not getting anything positive out of it, only increasing bills. The businesses were still happy to have the pageant there, as were the faithful locals who attended year after year. Miss America Suzette Charles was the liason between the pageant and Atlantic City, and she worked tirelessly to keep the pageant there. Ultimately, the officials in Atlantic City decided to end their sponsorship of the pageant, saying the cost benefit was not worth it to them anymore. There was some chatter of a casino picking up the costs and hosting it there rather than at Boardwalk Hall, but that never came to fruition. Without the financial support of Atlantic City, the Miss America pageant lost its home there. And it there were no indications that it was coming back or will ever be back.
