In reply to: ECA Director 's message, "East Coast Angels" on 05:36:46 07/03/07 Tue

The second East Coast Angels Basketball Camp was held July 9th-14th. The basketball camp is done more to give back to the children of the area. Everyone seemed to have a great time, and everyone walked away with at least one prize. We had some extremely talented kids this year and a few walked away with ribbons, trophies, and a medallion. Also thank you to our wonderful volunteers who put a great deal of their time to work with the kids during the ball camp. :) It's nice to see pageant girls be able to compete in sports against the boys! Great job everyone!

Is this common among other "local" pageants?

ECA was designed specifically in memory of our precious son to give back to the youth here in Maine, with the largest donation being the Children's Hospital at EMMC. :) Most local pageants that I know, are usually part of a town's celebration (like 4th of July) and therefore money raised usually goes to their town's account to help with the funding. For many towns that will include donating the money to the children's games, parades, and things of that nature. I believe that most local pageants representing a town do have some sort of cause they are using the profit for. I know the first pageant my daughter ever did, she was 10 months old and Grand Supremed. The money raised at that particular pageant was donated to a woman who was around my age who had terminal cancer. The money was used to set up a fund for her little girl's future. There are many great little local pageants out there. :)

You must live or go to school in Washington County, Maine, or Charlotte County, New Brunswick, to participate in this pageant, but all profits are donated back to the school where the pageant is held and things like the local recreation department. Also, the queens and princesses are encouraged to do community service. It is a VERY well organized pageant, and a great experience. If you can enter, I encourage you to do so! (And if you can travel to Beals in December, Janell's ECA pageant is another good one!)
