This photo was published on 24th July 1959, the day of the final night. Miss Italy, Maria Grazia Buccella (38-21½-34½), who was excluded from the semifinalists in the Miss Universe 1959 beauty contest at Long Beach, California, says the 15 girls who beat her out for a crack at the title are “too skinny.” Miss Italy said: “Back home the men would wait for these girls to gain some more weight.” The semifinalists will parade before judges tonight. Miss Italy will parade back to Italy.
