This photo was published on 25th July 1959, one day after the final night. Miss Universe 1959 from Japan, Akiko Kojima, is congratulated by Miss Brazil, Vera Ribeiro, who was the 4th runner-up. Akiko, a movie contract offered her, would like to make a movie or two and then return to the career she longs for most – a wife and mother. Following the Japanese beauty in the running: 1st runner-up was Miss Norway, Jorunn Kristjansen; 2nd runner-up was Miss U.S.A., Terry Lynn Huntingdon; 3rd runner-up was Miss England, Pamela Anne Searle; and 4th runner-up was Miss Brazil, Vera Ribeiro.
