Carol C., her husband Tony, their niece Alysse, my husband Ron, and I enjoyed the premiere of "Gooby" this afternoon. While Wilson Coneybeare, the producer had been scheduled to appear for a Q & A, he was a no show, so we were disappointed in that respect. (inside please) -- abrah, 22:55:09 03/01/09 Sun [8]
There were only a total of 7 people in the Mary Picford Screening Room at Raleigh Studios--also a disappointment since the more people who see the screenings, the better the publicity and distribution. The movie is definitely great family fare, aimed at the pre-teen set. My 6 year old grandson will love it. DJE's part was relatively small since the focus was on the relationship of the 11 year old William and his former Teddy. Derek Scott, who played Gooby did a fantastic job in making the audience believe that he was a real stuffed teddy come to life. David's character was an architect whose business was growing by leaps and bounds and his wife was an attorney. They played absentee, distracted, parents who had forgotten the true meaning of and importance of being a family. Two scenes made me cry, one was David's scene with Gooby and the other was a scene between William and Gooby. It has a great feel good ending. That's all I'm going to report because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who might be lucky enough to see the movie or who will purchasing the DVD. If you want to know more, then e-mail your questions to me and I'll answer to the best of my memory. LOL!

He just looked so cool and friendly and masterful, even against the 'backdrop' of DJE and then next to the hostess model and model-like reporter -- like he wasn't the least bit phased! LOL! But, I also have learned that many times, people who ARE 'world-famous' and/or super-beautiful are just normal people, too, and are even more insecure than those of us who have the 'luxury' of not having to be 'on display' when we are out and about. Somewhere I read that you showed some common courtesy and decency toward DJE at this event and I find that the right thing to do -- basic respect and kindness. I'm glad to be a fan in your company! Back in December when “Impact” premiered in Portugal, Ana Henriques spent a good part of her Christmas week uploading the movie so that those of us around the world would get the chance to see it, too. Ana made it clear in her emails to me that her wish was to make sure that everyone who wanted to see the movie got to do so. As part of my promise to Ana, I decided to offer the movie free of charge as a way of giving back and saying thank you.

I was reminded this past Christmas of why I became a fan in the first place all those years ago: that the measure of a fan isn’t what’s in it for them, or how much “stuff” they can accumulate for themselves at the expense of others, but rather what they can do for their fellow fans. I came into this fandom knowing that there are some very generous, giving, and caring people out there, and I aspired to be one of those people; I wanted to give back – because I can, and because it’s the right thing to do. Because it’s not all about me, or you, or one particular fan, because we are all equal – it’s about all of us, willing to share with each other that which made us fans in the first place, and to set an example to those fans who come after us. I hoped I could make a contribution in some small way, and maybe even make a difference somehow.

Ana’s Christmas wish was to receive an autographed photo from David. I told her that if I was able, I would do my best to make it happen for her. Then came the announcement of the TriMark charity golf tournament, and when I found out that Abrah was going to be there, I shared my story with her, and asked if she wouldn't mind asking David to personalize a photo just for Ana. Abrah is one of those giving spirits I just told you about; and not only did she take the time from her own experience with David to obtain the autograph for Ana, but she gave me a wonderful gift as well, by asking David to record a message for me. This is a friend, and a giving spirit, and I thank Abrah from the bottom of my heart for helping to get a fellow fan’s wish fulfilled.

These are just two examples of what it means for me to be a fan of David’s. This is the part of the fandom I would love to hold on to, and never forget. These generous, giving, and thoughtful people are why I stay through all the other unfortunate ugliness that comes with it.

Please step inside and take a look at a copy of the autographed photo (one 8x10 and one 5x7), which just went into the mail and on its way to Ana in Portugal. Thanks again to Ana and Abrah. . . it's people like you who give fans a good name. :-)

- Gabi, I'm not sure that writing to David's manager will get you the results you're looking for. From what I understand, they don't have the resources to handle requests for autographs from fans. I want to thank Barbie and Abrah for getting me David's autograph! It means so much to me to get this special souvenir. I am so excited about it! I hope it will arrive soon. And that's one of my favourite pictures! You were very nice to remember me. Thanks.

I wish I could write a little more about it but I'm speechless. I didn't expect to get his autograph. The only thing I can say is that I was very very happy when I realized all the fans were able to see the movie and its pictures. It made me feel so good/happy inside... A character-driven ensemble series, it focuses on the lives of four imperfect, offbeat and sometimes difficult, but heroic Canadian Coast Guard Rescue specialists who face danger daily out on the Pacific Ocean, saving lives as they search for meaning in their own. This gripping, high-action drama series stars Steve Bacic (21 Jump Street, Tailhook) as Duty Captain Miro Da Silva, Jeremy Guilbaut (Edgemont) as Rescue Specialist Andrew Vanderlee and Sonya Salomaa (Durham County) as First Mate Laura Nelson. David James Elliot (JAG, Closer to Home) also guest stars in the recurring role of David Nelson.
