Apparently, prison life had made him pretty damn thick. He'd been able to hold his own in there...he wasn't green to handling himself in the face of the worse types of criminals on the market. But in the pen, it was different. Anything went, and you could be iced for something as small as having more cigarettes in your pocket than somebody else. Surviving had been his focus--and had taken all of his attention, it seemed. "No...though after a while, I guess I stopped payin' attention, honestly. You get used to the same people, the same walls, the same shit day after day. Gets mundane."
Her explanation of the deal nearly had him floored. While he should have expected that it had all happened just a little too neatly, almost like it had been gift wrapped and delivered straight to him, he hadn't made the connection until now. He stared at her a moment, before a grin broke his weathered features. "Why I would be suprised about that, I don't know...but I am. I guess I was too happy for it to be happening to think about why it had been happening. "Thank you. Dammit woman...you had my back all along and I didn't have a clue. Why? Why'd you do that?" He was hugely curious about this.
As she spoke of her endeavors over the years, he grinned. The woman had always been a smart one, and her being partner in most of the businesses made sense of why the little town hasn't become a ghost town. God knows it wasn't because of it's booming population. "You did good. Place is still functioning at least." About Sasha's marriage, he inwardly winced for Sphinx. He knew the other man wasn't prone to hurt, but that one, he was probably going to take hard.
Feeling her eyes on him, he met her gaze and shook his head. "I look old. I think prison is the best aging system there is." He smirks, and can't resist the urge to brush a strand of black from the side of her ivory cheek. "You're still a knockout, yourself. Nothing suprising about that. "I missed ya a lot. It's good to see you." He wasn't good with the mushy crap, and knew she wasn't the type of girl that liked to hear it, anyway.
