We had curfews growing up with bare bottom spankings and sometimes grounding as the punishment.
We had to be in at dinnertime for sure unless there was a good excuse. My dad got home from work about 6:30 and we were expected to be in and ready for dinner when he got home otherwise, mom spanked our bare butts right there at the dinner table. When the weather allowed, we were allowed to go back out after dinner, and had to be home when it was getting dark. In the summer when it was daylight savings time, that allowed us at least two or three hours. In the winter, not so much.
In our teens, when we were old enough to go running around or dating. The curfew was extended to 11 pm on weeknights unless it was a school function or a chaperoned event. Midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. We could come in later without consequence, if we either said the event would run late and gave an approximate time or if we stopped and called to let them know we would be late. My sister was a chronic offender for coming in late even at sixteen or seventeen and on several occasions found herself across mom's lap getting a good dose of the hairbrush on her bare bottom in the living room. She also had an unfortunate habit of back talking which not only led to getting extra swats, but grounded as well.
As for me, the last time I got spanked for coming in late was at fifteen when my sister and I came in after dinnertime and hadn't told Mom where we were going. We were nearly two hours late and Mom was NOT happy. She already had the flyswatter in her hand when we walked in the door. After a royal chewing out, my ten year old sister had to bare her bottom and lay across a chair mom had pulled away from the table. Mom really wore her out good while she kicked and cried. Then it was my turn. I only pulled down my pants when she told me to, leaving my underwear up (I knew better). She literally forced me over the chair and wore my underwear covered butt out. Then dragged me back up on my feet, chewed me out again about not baring my butt when I was supposed to, made me pull my underwear down, then pushed me back across the chair and spanked my now bare butt even longer and harder than the first spanking. After she finished, we pulled our pants back up and sat down to dinner. It was a very unpleasant experience, sitting on those hard wood chairs eating a now cold dinner. With sore, burning bottoms. She also told us, the next time we would get it with the belt.
I got threat of a spanking for coming in past curfew a couple of times at sixteen and seventeen and ALMOST, got it with the belt when I was nineteen for coming in drunk at 2am. When I woke up later that morning, I was literally standing in my room pulling down my pants and underwear while while mom stood with my belt in her hand. I managed to say something which made her laugh and she didn't spank me. Sometimes when I think back on that incident, coming home at 2 am and drunk driving, I should have just gone ahead and taken the spanking even though it would have been really embarrassing (not to mention painful) to get my bare butt spanked at nineteen in front of my then fourteen year old sister.
