She's sweet, has a genuine smile and a great brain.

April 26

* After a reception and a whole afternoon photographing and interviewing delegates, it becomes more and more difficult to sort out favorites. It is a strong group and everyone here got a chance to win or to at least be a finalist.

* Although Miss India is short indeed, she shines all the time. Celina knows how to walk, how to talk and has a perfect face. She also photographes very well.

* The Far East is once again well represented this year. Miss Korea is the tallest delegate from that part of the world and she has the face of a doll. Miss Philippines has intelligence and communications skills as her major tools.

* Miss Puerto Rico has proven that all preparation and dedication she put up to participate in Miss Universe has paid off. She is not only gorgeous, but knows how to dress and give attention to her fans as well as to the press and fellow delegates. Puerto Rico is proud of Denise Quinones!

* During the rehearsals for the national costumes' event some delegates showed they really know how to move. The best dancers are Chile, Puerto Rico, Brazil, India and Poland.

* WHo are the favorites so far? Many delegates are starting to shine and the list is big. Among them, and in no particular order, are Greece, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Sweden, Norway, USA, Ireland, Yugoslavia, Brazil, Nigeria,Korea, Mexico, Botswana, Colombia, Spain, Portugal, India and South Africa.

* Miss Portugal got very emotional when she found out she had been the winner of Global Beauties' Survivor Game. Telma even cried and and thanked Paul Rozario (who represented her in the game) and all her fans and supporters.

* You will see many interviews we made with most contestants here on Global Beauties. Here beauty definetely goes with brains. Three standouts in this fantastic group of bright young ladies were South Africa, India and Venezuela. Philippines follows, Zora was very bright as well. You will soon be able to read their interviews and see if you agree with me.

* Two delegates are staying in each hotel room, and some of the roomies are: Brazil and Portugal; Trinidad & Tobago; Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands; Venezuela and Aruba; Spain and Chile; Philippines and Malaysia; Sweden and South Africa; Colombia and Italy; Uruguay and Argentina; Mazambique and Angola; Japan and Northern Marianas; India and Antigua & Barbuda.

* Miss Greece was the most photographed delegate yesterday. The press is going nuts over her Mediterranean looks. Miss Philippines looks better in person than in pictures. Miss Zimbabwe is tall and very attractive - a pleasant surprise.

* Miss Nigeriasuffered a car accident in her way to the international airport in Lagos. Her father, who was with the Nigerian beautyin the car, is still hospitalized - he is doing fine. Miss Germany also did not feel well during the day.

I am really glad Andrea Noceti is making a good impact on us all. Though I'm from Asia, I love Colombia to win this yr. Think of it, they have great contestants but ended up as runner ups etc...this time let her win.

Hi..I finally found Eva's national costume picture and I got to tell you that she is so prettyyyyyy and looks very exotic with this costume......

I cannot say that she will win the National Costume in Miss Universe because it's still toooooo early..but Eva's costume is the BEST SO FAR.....her costume has more cultural points and very beautiful.....

I was a little bit upset with Denise's costume..HEY!!! I think the main idea for national costume is when we look at the delegate on her national costume...we may get the idea where she was coming from......but when I looked at Denise's costume...and Zoraida Fonalledas's costume and Brenda Liz's costume as well...I think people might think that Puerto Rico is a zoo park country......:((((

Hi to all of you,

As one of the eight selected international unofficial judges for MUU it is my task to select ten semifinalists, the top-6 and the top-3 with the ranking 1, 2 and 3.

I am very honoured with being selected fot this job, but I want to share it with you. The more opinions I get, together with good arguments, the easier it is for me to choose among all these gorgeous women.

Every year, its either India, Venezuela, USA, Puerto Rico, etc these few countries who are tipped to enter the top ten and to win. I hope that this year, the top 10 will be full of surprises! Cant wait for it!!! But these girals are beautiful. PR is beautiful. So is Hong Kong. Too bad she is not participating. Miss Thailand looks good too Ms Malaysia and Korea too. Hope one of these gals will enter the top 10. Hope the Oriental gals will shine!

I'm disappointed Ms Hong Kong is leaving the pagent. She's 18 beautiful and even won Elite Models of Hong Kong at the age of 14! That's a great waste! Australia left, Namibia left now...China and Hong Kong.

2001 Miss Universe crown will go to one of the Asian pageants -- Ryan N., 16:51:25 04/20/01 Fri

I'm very confident about what i just said.
Some of the Asian participants such as India,Korea and philippines are really awesome.
They have a beautiful face, great personality and gorgeous body. Especially, india and Korea are likely to get the crown.
Philippines is nice but not as good as india or Korea.
We need to recognise Asian beauties.... This year they are evry strong and outstanding.

I picked Lara Dutta to win last year only because I didn't like the 1st RU at Miss USA. Bridget Vezina, even though she was 20, looked more like a Miss Teen USA than a Miss USA. Lara Dutta probably had the easiest victory in MU history. I wish there were semifinal interviews last year. Heather Hamilton (South Africa) was very intelligent and she would have given Lara some competition in the interviews. Lynette Cole just perform as well at Miss Universe as she did at Miss USA; had she been in the finals, she could have placed as 1st RU. Claudia Moreno should have spoken in Spanish; she couldn't express herself well in English and that's what cost her the crown. I don't like this year's Miss India Celina Jaitley. I don't see India repeating at MU. Celina Jaitley will be top 5 at the most.

Many of you might think that Carolina is beautiful and deserve to be one the most outstanding Miss Venezuela ever and maybe some of you might not......

She's been one of the early favourites in Miss Universe 1999 pageant and she's a strong front runner to become Miss Universe....as other Miss Venezuelas, she was called in the last half of the top 10 semifinalist, and I just loved her reaction when she was called..it seemed like dream come true for her....too bad she failed to make into top 3 and continue Venezuelan's 3 consecutive top 3 position since 1996. She's a volleyball champion for her country and also a great Civil Engineer student. I just love her warm and natural personalities.....another Claudia Moreno.

Someone posted this suggestion. I want the honest answer. Is she Bitchy? In what way? I can't say anything about that because I have never met her face to face. I am curious though why someone would feel this way about her. I say leave her alone. I think she is headed for a real rough time in Puerto Rico. She is on a crash coarse to reality. I don't see her making top ten. I hope this doesn't break her heart! She's just not Miss Universe Material.

Colombia is great and beautiful. She has the Marena Bencomo style. I think so. Puerto Rico has some resemblances with Lara Dutta and Venezuela has the style of a supermodel than a Miss Universe delegate.

Someone asked why do some people hate Miss Venezuela? I don't think anyone hates Miss Venezuela, I think there are many that don't by the hype of this teenager all painted up to look like a porn star!

Was she the best Venezuela could find? or did they pick her because of her body? How can a barely 18 yr old girl have any life experience and be taken serious when trying to answer general questions about women and their plight around the world? It's a shame they didn't find another Claudia. She was a rare find! I thought for sure Venezuela realized this. But to the dismay of many pageant pro's the winner this year is another Carolina proto-type! Just a teenager with slicked back hair and a ton of makeup on.

She is packaged as this sexual, sensual female goddess yet the truth is she is still a teenager living at home! There is no hatred for this child at all. There is disgust at the Miss Venezuelan system for not waking up and realizing things have changed! Women have changed! I really believe that as the Miss Universe Organization changes so do the names in top ten. With in the last 2 years we have seen, USA, Mexico, Philippines, Trinidad/Tobago and Colombia miss the call for top ten! Don't be surprised if this year you don't hear the name Miss Venezuela called. She's just not what the organization is looking for these days.

There is nothing to hype about a little girl painted up to look like a porn star and then have her pose in a bikini like some megga slut and then dare to suggest she would be a perfect represinitive of women around the world!

There was only one goal for Kandace as she went to PR for the fashion show. To get a feel for the people and environment. Since then she has transformed into one of the most striking women in this years run for the crown!

As many who were present noted that Miss USA was so far ahead of those that were there that if the pageant had been that evening she would have blown the others off the stage with her confidence, attitude, looks, and incredible interview skills!

Kandace looks nothing like the photo's that are being shown on the internet! She looks like an Elle model! Hair down, makeup evenly applied for a very young fresh look and of coarse that statuesque figure. With all of that, plus the fact that the other candidates who have met her, have said she is sooooo sweet, at this point she is the front runner!

My prediction is India 2nd runner up. Puerto Rico 1st runner up and Miss Universe 2001 Miss USA! Right now she is already doing the job that the new Miss Universe will be doing! She is prepared and obviously willing to make changes in her appearance as needed without compromising the essence of Kandace herself! This Miss USA is very speacial!

When asked on the eve of winning the USA title how she thought she would do in Puerto Rico she responded by saying that winning the USA crown is right now her greatest honor and if the lord needs her to do something else durring this year she will accept it with humility and do what she is suppose to do with the fame.

Her platform is breast cancer and cancer in general affecting women around the world. Kandace brings a personal story to this cause by her mothers battle and success in the fight against this awful disease. Kandace is truly a vehicle for young woman to use as a role model. I wish her all the best in Puerto Rico! She is a bright shining star to us all in the USA!

If she doesn't get the actual title Miss Universe I guarantee you that as she trains and lives with the new Miss Universe that woman will gain so much by being in her presence for the entire year!

Angola - Beautiful dark features; however, her "bouche [mouth]" region is horrid. I don't see her making top 10 at all. ** � stars!
Antigua - I heard she competed in the Miss Florida USA pageant and failed to win. But what's up with her forehead? It's ample. She has a beautiful though. *** stars!
Argentina - I've only seen a couple of pictures of her. She's allright looking, nowhere near my top 10. She ordinary looking. If she has good verbal skills and a great body, she'll do pretty well. *** stars!
Aruba - Aruba has been sending wonderful delegates to MU. Beautiful bone structure and skin. The only flaw she has is her height - 5'5" **** stars!
Bahamas - Again beautiful bone structure and dark skin. I've only seen a couple of photos of her. *** � stars!
Barbados - Totally imitating Lynette Cole's funky afro look - a no no. She's a beautiful woman and would be a total darkhorse. *** 3/4 stars!
Belgium - Beautiful eyes and blonde hair! Although, I don't see her in the top 10! *** � stars!
Bolivia - Bolivia constantly sends beautiful delegates to MU, but they tend to not make it to the semis. She has voluptious body! I hope she breaks Bolivia's non-semifinalist streak. **** stars!
Br. Virgin Islands - Ummmm ... uhhhh ... uhhh can somebody definitely say non-finalist! She seems too "ordinary" ** � stars!
Bulgaria - WOW! What a stunning girl. It would be great to see Bulgaria in the semis. She has the eyes, face, and body! The only thing that may prevent her from entering the semis is not speaking any english and nor having a good evening wear. She would look great during the swim suit competition. **** � stars!
Canada - Beautiful face. I heard she quite wasn't having a good time in Pasarela 2001. A friend from Puerto Rico told me she had a ... well not to beautiful body, he said something was wrong with her hips! **** 1/4 stars!
Cayman Islands - She seems like a normal "Spring Break" type of girl. She's ordinary-looking! ** 3/4 stars!
Chile - I don't know what people see in this girl! She's so not out of the ordinary; however, I love her beautiful black hair! *** 1/4 stars!
Colombia - Colombia, Colombia, Colombia. At first I wasn't sure that I'd like her, but numerous photos and her way of speaking - so sophisticated & eloquetly, helped my change my viewpoint. She looks hot in swim suit. When I received the Miss Colombia tape, i knew she would be the one. Her evening gown, OMG! She's a total knock-out! She's definitely in my top 10 and I wouldn't be shocked if Colombia gets the crown this year. You go GIRL! **** 3/4 stars!
Cook Islands - She looks pretty, she reminds me of Miss Cook

Costa Rica - She seems allright. I don't see her in the top 10; however, nice improvement (Pasarela 2001 photos)! *** 1/4 stars!
Cyprus - She's pretty. I remember seeing some photos of her in the Miss Cyprus 2000 photos. I believe she was 1st runner-up in that pageant, and got the right to represent Cyprus in Puerto Rico. *** � stars!
Czech Republic - Here's an analogy Eurupe: South America as
Czech Rep: Bolivia. Czech Rep. constantly sends beautiful delegates to MU, but they fail to enter top 10. I really hope she enters top 10. She has a beautiful face and body! **** � stars!
Ecuador - I seem not to like her. Her height and her face seem to be her flaws! ** 3/4 stars!
Estonia - She reminds of Evelyn Mikomagi b/c she has that humorous look on her! She looks funny too. *** 1/4 stars!
Finland - I wasn't rooting for her at the Miss Finland Universe pageant, I wanted that beautiful and voluptious brunette to win. I believe she was one of the runner-ups. She looks great though! **** 1/4 stars!

Germany - She reminds me of last year's Miss Germany. She has beautiful eyes! **** stars!

Honduras - What's up with the Miss Honduras delegates this past decade? They are horrible looking and unprepared, they really have to do something about their franchise. Personally, I don't like her! ** � stars!
Hong Kong - Total improvement. I'm really digging her. At least she looks better than Miss Philippines, physically-wise. *** 3/4 stars!

India - WOW! The only thing I suggest she do is to get rid of her fake colored-contacts, although she looks great in it! I heard she has good verbal skills, which would be a + during the interview. Israel - Nice coronation photos, but what's up with her eyebrows? They look really weird. She has a beautiful face!

Some people questioned her winning, but she was my favorite when I watched the Nuestra Belleza pageant. She seems too short though! She defintely be somewhere in the top 25 when and if the preliminary scores are realeased. Anyway, good luck to Jackie, I really do hope she makes it to the semis, b/c I have my doubts about her sometimes! **** 1/4 stars!
Nicaragua - I simply don't liker her physique, and her hair .... ** � stars!
Norway - Beautiful eyes and hair. She'll probably not make it to the top 10, but somewhere in the 25. *** 3/4 stars!
Panama - She doesn't seem like her strong predecessors! She seems a little robust! I really do hope that she loses a few pounds b/c that's her only flaw! If she does, she's bound to make it to the top 10 because she has a beautiful face. **** stars!
Philippines - Although she lacks the look, I've heard she a really intelligent law student. I was very very upset w/ the Bb. Philipinas pageant and their selection of the top 3. She will really need major preparation (Nina was 10x better). Good luck to her *** 3/4 stars!
Poland - I've only seen like two photos of her. Sometimes photos may be deceiving; however I really do hope her the best b/c these her photos are fascinating! **** � stars!
Portugal - She seems like of the most weak delegates Portugal has sent to MU! Personally, she looks to ordinary.

Puerto Rico - She definitely has the best face; just like Colombia's Catalina Acosta. She looks great. She has the body, face, hair, on and on! I really do hope she has the verbal skills! It would be great to see her win the crown in her own homeland. ***** stars!

South Africa - She exudes that exotic look, that'll be captivating in Puerto Rico. Great body! Her only flaw is her nose, it seems weird looking; however, I remember when a Miss Argentina w/ a similar nose took the crown. Other than that she receives **** � stars!
Spain - La madre patria Espa�a! Great body and face! She'll definitely be a top contender for the crown! These Spaniard Miss Universe women are defintely questing for the MU crown. Although, she was runner-up, she'll play a great role as Miss Spain. The actual Miss Spain was pretty too, too bad she was too young to compete in MU!
Sweden - She reminds me of Britney Spears, just take a look at her! She's too short though! She's a gorgeous brunette, let's just hope she makes it to the semis! **** 1/4 stars!
Switzerland - Many were upset when she won the national pageant, and I don't blame them! She looks uhhhh .... not too great! ** 3/4 stars!
Trinidad & Tobago - Great delegate: nice body, face, and big eyes! However, she's imitating Lynette Cole's hair-do; be original! **** � stars!
Turks & Caicos - Last year's delegate was just a fat woman, altough she was proud of it! But this year we have a very very very tall delegate from that country! *** � stars!
Uruguay - Beautiful eyes and face! I really do hope she places somewhere in the top 25 because she looks great! I give her **** stars!
USA - Good ol' Kandace! She's old, but very tall and beautiful! Although I didn't want her to win the Miss USA pageant (I wanted Missouri [they screwed her over w/ that stupid sports question]), I believe she's a pretty good contender for the crown. **** 3/4 stars!
US Virgin Islands - I'm hating the extensions! She has more extension than AT&T!!! She seems very average. ** 3/4 stars
Venezuela - "I'm a barbie girl, in the barbie world, i'm made of plastic it's fantastic ...." She's too young, to be looking too old! I really do hope Osmel tries to "refine and refresh" her look. Miss T&T have a similar hair like Lynnette cole but it still look great.Miss South africa look like the gorgeous Brook Mahaealani lee. I don't understand the hate against Miss Venezuela (Eva), and why everybody says she's so plastic. She has only gotten two surgeries (implants and ears), she's beautiful, prepared, and I honestly believe that she can win Miss Universe 2001! Thos anti-Venezuela comments really bother me becuase there is absolutely no reason why she should be put down that way.. she is, after all, just doing her job! I have read her interviews and she seems pretty smart and mature, so if you don't have enough information dont just talk crap about other people!!

Don't you think it is time to be a bit more diverse? I hope I don't offend anyone but to be honest Miss Venezuela is way too over-hyped and Mexico needs a lot of work. Pictures can be so decieving and presenting some 18 yr old teenager all painted up is too much of an illusion! Puerto Rico may be another casualty of over-hype as well. Not to mention the curse of being the host nation. Cyprus and Trinidad both missed top ten as well! This is not a slam against her as a person but minus all the makeup, her face is nothing speacial! It would be unfair to all the candidates to suggest that the top ten will be comprised of at least 5 latina's or South American's just because they seem to be the norm for this pageant and the host is South American. Actually I think Finland, Yugoslovia, Canada, and Korea to be much better in appearance than Venezuela, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Colombia as well! I'm a bit tired of hearing the argument about India being so favored simply because India dominates in pageantry. I think this Miss India is going to bomb bigtime! I am leaning towards either Finland or Canada as the winner over all!

As much as I do agree and sympathise many countries which have consistently being left out, I feel Ms Universe works this way. Always there would be the Latins. Perhaps they trained so hard and fixed their faces so much that Donald Trumph and judges decided that they worth certain points?? Haha. Well, just an opinion. I do think that many countries are always ditched aside and for years. Here, I do feel that those Latin ones would still make it. Trust me. On the other hand, I hope the countries like TT, Philippines, Canada, Spain, Thailand, Germnay etc would make it. I feel that those hot favourites will turned to be runners up and finalists. The dark horse will ve the victorious queen for that night. Let's pray and watch.

Comparisons on various Ex. Ms Venezuelas -- judge, 17:36:35 03/22/01 Thu

Ms Venezuelas indeed done their best with pride in each year's contests. Not only in Ms Universe, Ms World but also Ms International etc. I strongly feel that the best three Ms Venezuelas would be Claudia Moreno 00, Marena Bencomo 97, Carolina Indriago 99. They have the heart and the warmth of a winner. Unfortunately, the others had displayed the cold,strong look in their faces especially when they have lost. Ms Alicia Merchado was different. The way she crowned Brook Lee was insincere perhaps hoping that Marena would win in 1997. Varushka Ramirez was good too but she seemed to attention seeking. As for Milka Chulina 93,Minorka Mechado 94 they looked quite similar.In 1995, Denise Floriano was stiff and plump. So may Eva do well and we all know she'll. She's 120% prepared and 120% confident. Though never my favourite but it's up to the judges to like.
