Subject: Watched the California pageant livestream, and I have to say, the way they handled the runner-up announcements was downright classless. No respect for the first runner-up, who was their current sweetheart. Making her crown the second runner-up as the new sweetheart instead? Talk about thoughtless and humiliating. They completely stole what should have been her moment to shine. That poor girl deserves better—wouldn’t blame her if she decided not to return.

I also don't blame any of them for not returning if other states are going to do the same thing during crowning. I haven't seen any states crown their Sweetheart directly at the state pageant except Utah.

[> Subject: If you haven’t seen the award announcements, they’re available on the Miss California Volunteer Pageant’s YouTube channel. The young woman carried herself with remarkable grace. The organization could have handled this much better, and I hope they extend an apology. According to her Facebook, she finished in the top 10 and received the Director’s Award at the National Sweetheart Pageant in Hoopeston, IL.

What else should they have done? She was sweetheart for 2024 and even though she won sweetheart again she couldn’t represent it and couldn’t be crowned a second time. When the results came what other option is a good one? Crown no one? She showed such grace and was able to crown her successor which I believe she asked to be able to do before competition even happened.

Do you have a better solution?

[> [> Subject: In WA, they don't crown the Sweetheart on stage. They give her a moment at their state title holder's send off for MVA to announce who she is and give her the sweetheart volunteer sash. It's a lot better because the pageant is focused on Volunteer, but the Sweetheart still gets a moment later. A lot of 1RUs in other states say no, so it would be pointless to crown them on stage if they don't go to Sweetheart anyway.

In the enthralling platformer only up, a little child explores a fantastical universe by jumping from one surface to another.
