] Date Posted: Sat November 22, 2025 20:48:01 Hi there, I’m a complete newbie to pageants and came across this system. I’m really taken by the opportunity to volunteer and advocate at the state and national level, and of course the scholarships! I was wondering if this system would be the right one for me; a little info about me is that I am from Texas, I’m 5’5 and of Indian descent. I’m 23 and applying to medical school and volunteer a lot of my time towards improving healthcare access. I believe my violin skills are at a higher level than most clips I’ve seen at pageants, but I need to focus on my entertainment abilities. I believe I meet the systems attractiveness/body standards and could develop a good walk with practice, but I notice there’s a preference for the blonde look. I was wondering if my height and ethnicity would work against me in this system? Should I try MAO first bc of the lower entrance fee? I’m looking for a way to dip my toes in without breaking the bank, so if anyone has any systems to recommend, I’m all ears. P.S. how does it look to wear Indian traditional wear to the evening gown portion? Cool or a no-no? [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
| [> Subject: Hello and welcome! I do not live in Texas so I can respond only generally but with knowledge of the Volunteer system. So many looks are successful. Two of the 4 national winners have been brunette, so let that go. There is leadership stability in Volunteer and national scholarships are paid. Cannot say that about MAO nationals. Women are treated well and respected too. Adrian Kwan recently published Beginner’s Guide to Pageantry. It is on Amazon and could guide you too. Good luck! | |

Date Posted: Sat November 29, 2025 19:55:30 Let's start with the volunteer aspect. It's what drives this pageant system. Make sure you are well versed with all things St. Jude and also the Salvation Army. Both are national partnerships for the pageant system. Being in Texas, you might want to reach out to the state director there. As far as talent goes, you mentioned that you play the violin. Are classically trained, if so do not worry about the entertainment value, and focus on a strong piece to play. Like the above poster mentioned, 2 of the national Miss winners have been brunette and the current winner is brunette. Hair color is not a factor, and with your Indian heritage, blonde would not look natural or good for you. The volunteer system is inclusive, and ethnicity is not a game that they favor or dis favor. It comes down to how you present yourself while competing as a TOTAL package. As far as the gown aspect, remember you are in a pageant, and traditional wear might come across as costume and not red carpet worthy. Study the rules and guidelines that are posted on the national website and take it from there. Good Luck in your pageant career. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
