I got a message from Richard W. Bann this morning after he read the review and he says "maybe" for Sammy Brooks but "no" to Ed Brandenburg.
Not sure on Lufkin in the scene you described. I had a hard time convincing myself he was the mechanic but lean towards him in more certainty than not.
