He was an award-winning artist and wood carver.

There is some question about his birth date. The (June) 1900 Census gives his birth as "January 1898" which would make him 2 years old in June 1900 BUT his "age" is given as "1 year old" which would make his birth year as 1899.
His WWI Draft Card says he was born "April 4, 1899" and his Death Certificate says he was born "April 4, 1900".

Curiously, his Death Certificate says he had been working as a "bootblack" for the past year yet Harry Levette, the prolific sports and entertainment writer for "The California Eagle" talked to Curtis 30 minutes before he was killed in a horrific knife fight said Curtis told him he had worked at the Roach Studio on the prior Saturday.

He may not have even known his Father's first name since he was 5 or 6 years old when his Father was "out of his life". Who knows what the Mom told the kids about their father. The Father's death notice doesn't mention surviving children or ex-wife.The addresses on Collins Ave, and Park Ave. are about 1/2 mile apart.

NOTE: What are the chances that 1972 ANNA LOWRY is ELMER "SCOOTER" LOWRY's Mom??  What are the chances that a person named "ELMER LOWRY"............would have that info about SCOOTER's Mom, ANNA LOWRY, in light of the fact her only living child was named ELMER LOWRY and all other close relatives  were dead. What are the chances that a person named ELMER LOWRY was the informant for the Death Certificate for a woman named ANNA LOWRY who resided a half mile away from him???

LORDHEATH's suspicions about JIMMY's questionable stats are substantiated. That other "kid", JAMES ORVELL ROBINSON, was an actual person who fit those stats EXCEPT he was the WRONG person given as a co-star of the MICKEY McGUIRE films and parts in other films including "Wild Babies!"
I'm trying to catch up with all of the fantastic, well-documented "EXCLUSIVES" that JESSE BRISSON has found for ANM!
He "sets the record straight" regularly!

Real name: JAMES HENRY ROBINSON.
born: 06 April 1922.
Los Angeles, California, United States of America.

died: 03 November 1988.
Los Angeles, California, United States of America.
(age 66).

His Birth Certificate gives his name as "JIMMIE ROBINSEN" born to "Elijah" (1875-1950) and "Jenette Robinsen" (c.1878-????). He worked as a boilermaker for the Union Pacific RR and located to CA from TX before 1910. The Mom was also from TX but met and married Elijah in LA in 1920.
He was divorced and she was a widow (Smith) and her maiden name was Robson or Robeson.

While at Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles (c.1939), after school, weekends, holidays, and summer breaks, he and other students played "gigs" with professional bands. Jimmy played with the Al Adams Band. Even so, he was one of only three black students ( with Dexter Gordon & Chico Hamilton) to get "A's" in Mrs. Smith's English class and she was known to be tough! Stymie Beard attended the same High School, three years behind them.

James Henry Robinson registered for the WWII Draft on 30 June 1942 and listed his employer as "Les Hite". On 07 December 1942 he enlisted in the US Cavalry with a civilian job classification as "Musician and.....". It's very possible that he went to the segregated all-Black 10th ("Buffalo Soldiers") or 28th Cavalry Regiments stationed at Camp Lockett CA to guard the Mexican border about 60 miles in the desert from San Diego. Several Jazz musicians from his "South Central" LA neighborhood were drafted or enlisted and were placed in the military band unit at Camp Lockett or other bases as told in interviews of LA Jazz musicians taped for an oral history project conducted by UCLA in the 1990's.

A newspaper "blurb" from 24 October 1942 says ".....Jimmy Robinson, trombonist with Les Hite, will be remembered by those out of their 'teens as "Hambone" of the Mickey McGuire movies".

"James Robinson" is listed as one of two trombonists on Les Hite records recorded earlier in 1942 in Los Angeles.

By 1945, Les Hite had pretty much "drifted" out of the music business when Jimmy was discharged from the US Army on 17 December 1945.

In LA in October 1946, his sister, Emma, married professional boxer, Wm. Doyle Mitchell.

In 1947, "James Robinson" was playing trombone in Lionel Hampton's Orchestra.

In December 1950, he is the "informant" for his Dad, Elijah's, LA Death Certificate.

I assume he continued playing for various Jazz bands. Many of these musicians changed bands (and sometimes instruments) often, making them difficult to follow especially with a common name like "Robinson" as a musician. "Big" Jim Robinson (1892-1976) was a Jazz trombonist from New Orleans who evidently never played with the Les Hite Orchestra. There was a contemporary "Jimmy" Robinson who played coronet for various Jazz bands, for example.

Im pretty sure the midget in Sealskins (1932) with Thelma Todd/ Zasu Pitts is Clarence Howerton aka Major Mite. He played togheter with Tiny Lawrence in the Our Gang short Free Eats the Baby Thiefs.
Major Mite and the Midget Actor from Sealskins have both the same birthmark on right cheek.
IMDB says (falsely) that the midget was played by Harry Earles.

Also I doubt that Harry Earles played in Sailors Beware (1927) the Laurel/Hardy short. Sometimes the midget actor Looks like Harry Earles, but on close examination its clearly not him. I would like to know who it really is. Are there some production notes/papers left from Roach Studios to check ?

Happy 100th birthday to SCOOTER.
His middle name was "CAMDEN" which was the name of his Dad's brother who died at age 10.
The "ELMER C. LOWRY" who died in 1991 in Ashton, PA was a different man. If I remember correctly (off the top of my head), I think he was born maybe 26 Dec 1919. He might be the ELMER LOWRY who became a US Army psychiatrist.
I have evidence beyond a doubt which I either submitted directly to DAVE, way-back-when....or to the Forum. Anyway, I can do it again, if anyone is interested.
I think he was already divorced from his wife, SHIRLEY, by the time that 1952 or '53 newspaper interview was written as he didn't mention a wife and was supposedly on his way back to Hollywood to re-kindle his career.I can get the link to it, if anyone is interested.
I haven't found a death date or obituary for her. She might still be alive, too!
I haven't found a death date or obituary for SCOOTER'S Mom or maternal Grandmother. I think his maternal Grandfather (SOUTHARD) died in 1932 and the other Grandfather in 1930.
His sister, LILA, died in 1989 and her husband, ROBERT BANGS died in 1974 and their son, RICHARD, died in 2004.Their daughter, BARBARA, (b.1938 or '39) may still be living.
The family pretty much stayed on Long Island, NY.
I'm pretty sure SCOOTER's Dad was in the Navy or Merchant Marines and that's how he got from TN to NYC to meet and marry SCOOTER's Mom. He divorced HER in 1925, charging "desertion". I think she was a "stage mother". At the time, SCOOTER was making $300 per week. His Dad was a bank clerk.
The Dad died in 1941 (TN) of an apparent suicide (age 53) from a barbiturate overdose. I'm pretty sure he was remarried. His newspaper death notice doesn't mention any surviving children or ex-wife.
Except for SCOOTER's, don't "quote" me on any of the dates as this is all "off the top of my head".
In honor of the occasion, I plan to donate $10 to Lord Heath's "In Search of SCOOTER" fund so that the search may continue.

"Gypsy 1" is Roy Brooks again (and is perhaps the better shot of him).

Pretty sure "Gypsy 2" is James T. Kelley.

"Gypsy 3" is Wallace Howe.

Sammy Brooks is "gypsy 4" with Brooks, Kelley and Howe (Roy even carries him over!). In the first shot we see of Roy Brooks (5:29 in the video), he's whispering into his ear, then he runs off at 6:19.

In fact, reviewing the YouTube footage, the Brookses, Kelley and Howe don't appear to be playing gypsies as much as plain old hoboes, separate from the gypsy camp of Ward, Rowe, et al (pretty sure Kelley and Howe's characters are the same hoboes seen hitching onto Eddie's ride earlier in the film, so the synopsis may need to be adjusted).

Watching the footage, it looks to me like Jean Hope is the cooking gypsy seen with Tiny Ward (3:16 + 3:35 + 3:38 [last shot is best angle IMO]).

A typo I noticed on the MAMA LOVES PAPA page: Mickey then continues his routine, now as an out-of-control monkey who jumps up onto a cabinet before swin[g]ing from a light and throwing the bulbs down onto Remington's head.

When recently going through the Todd/Kelly DVD, I spotted Sammy Brooks towards the beginning of TWIN TRIPLETS, and Noah Young as a cop (I think) in HOT MONEY.

Rafael Storm is missing THE MISSES STOOGE.

I disagree on Eugene Pallette being in SOMETHING SIMPLE; I feel he would have been a somewhat recognizable actor at that time - enough not to do an uncredited bit part in a two-reeler. That said, "Taxi driver #1" (unIDs) looks to me like Joseph Young, but I'm not 100% sure.
