...and in comes Jim with the smashing assist!
I forgot to look for Edith in the 1930 Census. Here, she is a dressmaker married to auto garage mechanic Julius Neal (which solves my mystery of who "Mr. Neal" is). Her father and mother were born in Louisiana and Texas, respectively, which matches her 1937 marriage certificate and her sister Florence's entries in the 1920 and 1930 Censuses.
With that, the sentence in the bio can be changed to: "She was previously married to auto garage mechanic Julius Neal, the marriage ending in divorce in 1936."
For the acknowledgements, to be squeezed between the 1920 Census and 1937 marriage:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XCVF-VKM (1930 Census)
https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/380272272/ (Los Angeles Times, 23 Apr 1936 - divorce suit filed)
https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/380648592/ (Los Angeles Times, 7 Jun 1936 - divorce decree granted)
I'm wondering if I couldn't find her SS Death Index entry at FamilySearch because of this weird thing where searches in the SSDI seem to only rely on the surname. If I search with the first name, what I'm looking for doesn't seem to come up (at least not right away, if at all). Do you experience this with the SSDI at FS, too?
I noticed that Dave forgot to add the L.A. birth place, but I got sidetracked with other things. Also, in the last part of the bio, the first "u" in "August" is miscapitalized.
Thanks for the addendum, Jim. Nice to know Edith lived such a long life and can R.I.P.
