�I�� Again his mouth froze up. �I�ve been trying to find you. For � for years.� His normal eloquence and easy way with words had completely deserted him. �You didn�t let me apologise. I�ve wanted to say sorry for so long�� Again he cut himself off. All these years, and he�d been dreaming of apologising to Halzay. But he had never thought about what to say. And now all he could do was stammer and stutter his words out. Shards, I need a drink�

No you don�t. Scarth quickly told him, and he would have smiled at the dragon�s promptness if he had been feeling better. But as it was, he was stuck. He just didn�t know what to do�

But then Salzay spoke, and her words made him become, if possible, more confused. Daddy? Why was she calling him Daddy�?

Oh no. No no no no no�Shells no. Please, no. Anybody listening, no�anything but this�

Unsure of what to say � completely thrown off balance by this little revelation (not to mention that he hadn�t exactly been entirely happy before), S�peer could only gape at Salzay. His child. His. No. It wasn�t possible. Filled with emotions he couldn�t even begin to comprehend, S�peer blinked, and looked down again at her.

His daughter.

It couldn�t be. No�Halzay had made a mistake. Telling the girl he was her father. ut what reason would she have to? He couldn�t understand any of it�and mixed in with all this was the realization that now, he would never be able to forget. He�d always thought he would gain something by finding Halzay again, but he hadn�t reckoned on this. Now he had a child�a daughter�and he didn�t know what to do. All his hopes and plans for the future had turned into�

A daughter.

A beautiful, bright, bold child. Half of Halzay, half of S�peer, and all of herself.

He couldn�t believe it. This child was his. A little girl�but he stopped himself right there, pulled himself up short. He was getting far too carried away with this. Salzay didn�t even like him! She called him bad...she wouldn�t want to know him. halzay wouldn�t want her to know him.

But the strangest thing was, that he didn�t want to give her up. He wanted to�be her father. All at once, he wanted it more than anything else in the world.

�Does she�?� He wrenched his gaze away from the girl who looked so like him to stare at Halzay. His voice suddenly came back � his words were firm, but not threatening.

�We need to talk. Really. Now. I won�t come within a yard of you, and you won�t be scared of me. Equal terms. You�ve been avoiding me for four years now � I know I hurt you, but I need answers.� He swallowed, his eyes filled with tears.

�Please.�

((I love it too! It�s in my Top Ten musicals! When I saw it the Judas had such great note of insanity that you hung on his every word�(my ideal job: theatre critic/director!). Who were you in it? Mary?
And have either of you seen Blood Brothers?))
