The New Irish Dance Message Board

Welcome to the new Irish Dance Message Board.
This board will be moderated every day. There may be times when unwanted posts are not removed immediately, but I guarantee that it will be moderated a minimum of once every 24 hours.
Discuss whatever you like, however nasty posts will be removed and repeat offenders will be blocked.
**Just for the record, I am not a TC or AD, just a parent. I am not affiliated with any of the "big" schools so will moderate all posts equally**

Dear Mod - I notice that the ppost asking you to do something about the "slut" comments about dancers on here has disappearaed, but the original thread remains. Is this really how you are handling moderating this board? I ask here because you don't supply an email address for anyone to contact you privately.   - The mod hasn't said she is overwhelmed but instead said she would mod every 24 hours and fairly. And as I said rather than being able to email quietly and privately she posted no email contact so it's not like one can do that. It's too bad for those little dancers being discussed so horribly. - There are some coming out for Worlds - technically legal, but look like the dancer is half dressed. Seem fairly controversial (and look more like ice skaters), but if a dancer wants to stand out at any cost, they'll meet their goal.         I agree, they know the top dancers which is why schools dress lesser dancers in the same design as their champ. Maybe it makes no difference, but maybe, just maybe an AD will take a second glance at a dancer in a recognized dress where they would have possibly ignored them without it. My friend sold a dress from Australia, she listed it in US dollars, I think $US700 which was half what she paid for it (she even got emails from other sellers telling her the price was too low and making them look bad!). I've encountered two dresses now where the seller says the dresses have the highest level of crystalling that Elevation has, however they are not blingy at all (a couple pears and maybe 200 small crystals) and I've seen SO MANY that are literally dripping with crystals. How does Elevation categorize and price their level of bling? If those other dresses with plain skirts and a few crystals on the bodice are the highest level, what are these others ones I see on Elevation's social media?

We are trying to map out our feis schedule for next year and my dancer would like to try a feis or two outside of our normal rotation just for the fun of it. What are some of your favorites and what makes them special? Is there one you know of that gives unique medals/trophies/awards?

- I made this as an alternative to the main board, everyone is welcome. It's impossible to completely prevent the spam, however, I do promise that the board is checked serveral times a day/night and any spam removed and the IP address blocked which will hopefully keep them at bay for as long as possible. - Eastern Region and Mid-Atlantic are 2 different boards. Just as this board replaced the Main board, Mid-Atlantic has "replaced" Eastern Region. No disgusting posts have appeared on the M-A board. (NT) -- Can't prevent spam - can only remove it, 12:45:01 11/28/17 Tue

I have just watched a well known dancer dance St Patrick's day and Blackbird on youtube and I am confused. I know there are slight variations and the Blackbird was possibly the new Molyneaux (spelling?). But the St Pat's was almost unrecognizable. How can it be so different when we were always told that these set dances are danced the same the World over?
The dancer is amazing but I am just confused by how different the steps are, way more than "slight variations".

- The Choreography for Traditional set dances vary from county to county in Ireland. They are extremely old dances and they can look extremely different depending on where the tradional choreography originated from. I have learnt many versions of St Patricks Day and The Blackbird from different teachers. This is from different AIDA teacher and also traditional ID teachers. We have ID school sin Sydney that teach the original Traditional style of ID. - When Olive Hurley released her videos, those became the ones that most people think are the "traditional" versions. But recently the Kerry and Cork versions of the sets are being revived. JO'R was doing the Molyneaux (Kerry) versions of BB and SPD. I'm delighted that we are preserving more of the traditions from more of the country. My son has won trad set competitions and passed grade exams doing the Hurley Blackbird, the Cork Garden, and the Molyneaux Jockey. All were readily accepted by adjudicators and examiners. We are new to this and we have found a dress we are interested in. The owner says it is about 8 years old, but the owner is asking for $950 USD for it. We think this is too high; is it fair to ask them if they will take half that? The dress also shows some obvious wear.

We are not looking for a top-of-the-line dress. This is in the dancer's size and her preferred colors. Was told by friends dress is too expensive but we really like it. We are trying to avoid "ruffling feathers!"

- That price is definitely too high and yes you should ask if they will accept half. Because it is an older dress, I would also highly recommend that you get approval from your teacher to buy it first, just because some TC's perfer their dancers in a certain kind of dress as it may not be appropriate for your dancers level. - I prefer bank transfer as the payment can't be reversed like it can with paypal. A buyer just needs to tell paypal that the dress wasn't as described or didn't arrive and paypal puts a hold on the money until you can prove otherwise. The 41st Annual North Jersey Championships, hosted by the Early-McLoughlin School of Irish Dancing will be held Sunday, October 1. The venue will again be the spacious Eugene Levy Fieldhouse at Rockland Community College in Suffern NY. Additionally, Grade Exams 1 through 12 are being offered on the weekend. There is a cap on candidates taking these exams so don't delay in sending applications in. How do I contact the administrator of a voy board? I think I was unfairly blocked from the other main board because I advertised this board there and when it was removed I advertised it again.         I'm shocked too. They left the board for so long, full of spam, over and over again and only when you must have posted the link did they decide to remove it, and then to block you as well is just not on when they weren't taking care of the board. - They don't like people using this board because the they don't control the moderator. The mods of the main board and several regional boards work for ID schools. I tried to start my own board once years back and within a week they managed to have my admin rights revoked, took over the board, and shut it down. The 41st Annual North Jersey Championships hosted by the Early-McLoughlin School of Irish Dancing will take place at the spacious Rockland Community College on Sunday, October 1 2017. The syllabus for this event will be posted on Feisweb within the next few days.

Once again GRADE EXAMS 1-12 will be conducted at this event. There will be a cap to any candidate interested in taking their exams. For further information on the Grade Exams and an application form(separate from the Feis), please go to the McLoughlin School website at www.mcloughlinschool dot com to read and to download. Any questions please email the school website.

Irish Dance friends, we are in need of only 2 more volunteers for the National's costume shop on Sunday, July 9th from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
