What a load of crap!!!

You have conveniently disregarded the primary catalyst for the Bougainvillean revolution, which was environmental degradation of the island!!! Your comparison of Bougainville with Haiti reflects a mentality that stems from a comtemptuous regard of the intelligence of tribal societies of the globe, who are now calling on the developed world to start fixing the mess that they, by their corpulent lifestyle, have created for the rest of us.

Bougainville is not Haiti, just as the rest of the Pacific can never be, because they were borne of the forest, in contrast to Haiti, which was borne from the slave trade. We value our environment much more than you and type give us credit for, which is why we will fight to keep it that way. We have done so for the last ten years. The whole revolution has been caused by a deept seated concern for the environment!!

We are already regaining our lead role as the major cocoa producing province in PNG, without sacrificing our livelihood in the manner that your Haitians were forced to. So stop that garbled nonsense..otherwise you will have to include the whole of PNG, including other Melanesean countries, such as Vanuatu or even the aid-dependant the Cook Islands, in the same boat. I have yet to see these poor countries take to their forest in the same manner that the Haitian did to theirs.

Bougainville will remain environmentally conciuous, because that is what has sustained them for generations, in contrast to your Haitian ex-slaves. In fact, they are all set to be self funding and self governing, if only the central government can recognize that simple fact.

I concede that the political landscape is still undulating, but that in no way means that they will suddenly switch from one extreme to the other without careful thought. So do not rush to tar us with the same brush that you have so hastily done with your Haitians. Their plight was caused by poverty..which Bougainvilleans do not have. They do not need to manufacture charcoal, as most of their needs are best served by the equilibrium that exists between the carrying capapcity of their land and its regenerative capacity. They, of all, know this simple fact, and have fought for it with their lives.
