Subject: REPOST-w problems w/blindly following American model of econ. development

Subject: 2 problems with blindly following the American model of economic development

1. What we're doing is actually NOT the American model of economic development. The American model of economic development had all resources originally developed and processed by Americans only. Americans with American companies. Just like the Malaysian loggers originally logged their own forests and developed their own resources.
We're years behind in even starting this localisation, even in the more basic industries. For that reason, most of the benefits from our resources do go to other countries and will continue to do so. This is NOT the American model.

2. If you look in America where many of the raw resources come from, you will not see great prosperity and sometimes you will see no development at all. There are mining ghost towns in the west, and near ghost towns in America's farmland. Where did all the development go from these areas? They went to the places which had easy access to transport, including shipping transport (bays). For that reason, the development from all the gold and silver that came from many of today's dead ghost town areas created today's big cities. For example San Francisco, California. This is okay with Americans, because they were mobile, they had no papa graun and could just move wherever the next wind took them. Are we ready to give up our land and move onto someone else' land? Do we even HAVE this option right now? The poor people of Pogera, Moro, Lihir, they all think that these rich resources they are selling are going to bring local development and towns to their area. They are dreaming! It didn't happen in America and it won't happen in PNG.
