It's not about dragging Olivia. It's about shining a light on how we in Ohio are failing her.

Olivia is a early-to-mid 20's young woman who's been thrust into the spotlight. It's the state board's job to guide her, to help her, to protect her. Are they just not directing her to be properly Miss America ready?

The new MAO is definitely about presentation and looks - not just academic pursuits and achievements anymore. A strong social media presence is a must for a competitive contestant. Looking like a Miss America - put together, undeniably fit, glamorous, well-groomed, fashionable - is a significant part of the process now. Look at the national social media for clues - Abbie's makeup is always done. Her hair is always done. Flattering photos are shared, not odd angles or closed eyes. Wardrobe is always well-tailored to fit Abbie, too.

If Olivia wants to be truly competitive at the national level, she needs some serious polish and presentation work. This isn't dragging her at all - it's a statement made to reflect on the lack of support she seems to be getting as she prepares for Miss America. We're less than a month away, and this is the discussion we're having. That's an issue with the state, not necessarily the representative. Olivia has all of the skills to be a fierce competitor. She's gorgeous, well-spoken, and very talented. She just needs to package it well. That's not happening because no one seems to want to have the hard conversations with her, so it ends up on here. Hopefully someone with some connection to Olivia can help her polish her appearance and social media choices soon.

Unless, of course, she has refused all help. Then that's a whole different discussion.

[> Subject: Posing this hate campaign as “just trying to help her” is incredibly disingenuous and intentionally misleading. None of these posts have been out of concern for her - they have all been to tear her down and vilify her. The Miss Ohio organization does NOT pay for her wardrobe or any hair and makeup. There is also no handler for Miss Ohio so she is entirely on her own. Maybe direct your criticism for the board and how they allocate funds instead of Olivia. No Miss Ohio in recent memory has had to deal with such a vitriolic hate campaign as she has since being crowned. Either direct your concerns towards people who can help her or you can always email her! Miss Ohio’s email is public information.

[> [> Subject: Excuse me, but didn't Lora Current have a $10,000 gown gifted to her by a sponsor? Actually, her entire wardrobe. And doesn't the Ohio board send the girls to Matt Boyd and his hair and makeup team every year, just like they did with Olivia? We've been having this conversation about Olivia not being supported by the MO board for a week and this is the first someone's said the board does nothing for Miss Ohio. You buried the lede.

[> [> Subject: I absolutely disagree that people are just out for her. No matter her having a bit of a rough start, Olivia Fosson is a true talent and beauty. She is a legitimate opera singer, who nails it every time bc she is a solid talent, distinct from the untrained or undertrained voices attempting to, and she looks beautiful while she does it. She's got the face!! And a brilliant smile and I just love her with her hair up bc it really shows off her features. That's why she won- flawless talent and a gorgeous face. I think ppl would hate to see her not go as far as she can at MA bc she's running herself ragged making appearances. There will be plenty of time for that after. btw- as a long time follower, I had no idea Miss Ohio had no help whatsoever in arranging & handling appearances. That's a shame.

[> Subject: Y'all should know that SO and company offer no advice. Once you accept the job of Miss Ohio, you are on your own. The board does nothing to prep or assist. Gone are the days of when we still had strong local directors to help their girl. SO ran them all off.

[> [> Subject: This is a COMPLETE 180 from the recent days of where contractually 'you can't have an outside coach' and 'all appearances go through the Ohio board'. Vicky King was their prep person for Lora, Betta & Madison, had no idea she was gone. There are plenty of ppl who can help, but not if the Board doesn't allow it.

[> Subject: Do you all realize Miss Ohio totally funds her wardrobe, hair, etc for engagements? Just being in the pageant world it’s been known for years that if you accept the job of Miss Ohio you are on your own to find engagements and events and the expenses and planning for those falls primarily on you. Not sure how other states work, but this has been known to be true for Ohio long before the current Miss. Cut this girl some slack.
