Subject: This program wouldn't have lasted 97 years if contestants felt they were being 'paraded around', rather than showing their hard work and commitment to all aspects of themselves. And the 1.0 contestants certainly knew how to have a conversation! 1.0 had interview and OSQ, just like 2.0. The Ted Talk is the only new competition, so you now have 50% talent and 50% talk. There is a movement which dictates women should not show off their bodies for gain; it's been around for over 50 years. Look at the number of contestants at Miss Ohio in the 1980s and the numbers in the years after 2000. We can't blame it all on poor state leadership. More than a few will tell you they thought the state leadership was corrupt in the 80s, too. I have tried to recruit women into the program for the past 30 years. The percentage who will not compete because they would have to wear a swimsuit on a stage has increased steadily by the year. I have to accept society has changed and maybe the program should adjust to it. I don't like 2.0 at all, but I respect the women who choose it. The reason pageants have diminished in 30 years is that women have gained more opportunities, in sports, AI, SYTYCD, The Voice, etc.. The mistake is to seek outsiders' approval of the pageant. And yes, MO leadership has been corrupt since the 80's, less Jay and Gloria's 2 years. If they hadn't been the EDs, a mixed race girl would have NEVER won the title, esp one with the attitude she had when first entering the program. She's grow up and is an asset to the program now, but I completely feel she would have never been allowed to win under the former/current group.
