Subject: Miss America KILLS EVENING GOWN COMPETITION!

There's no more Evening Gown competition for Miss America. For real.

This year at MA, evening gowns will be worn for opening number by all the 'candidates', by the NON-finalists during crowning, and during Preliminary OSQ. For finals, interview suits will be worn for OSQ.

A new competition will be "Social Impact Pitch" where you will be judged on how you sell your platform-- your execution plan, measures of success, who are you bringing to the table to make it successful, how it's nationally scalable, its national longevity, how you plan to use the platform of MA to continue your work after MA, and how the initiative drives the mission and vision of Miss America.

You will wear what you would wear to give a Ted Talk. It will be a 90 sec to 2 min presentation worth 15% for prelims; 20% for finals.

For crowning, finalists will wear whatever they want that represents their 'brand'.
---- What that translates to is Miss America will NOT be crowned in a gown!

I'm predicting there will be no crown next year, if not this year.

[> Subject: Oh, forgot- "During competition week each candidate will be asked to compose a variety of written materials to be submitted to judges." Interview allows questions on how the candidates prepared for the job, the timeliness and relevance of the information they submitted, and any questions regarding their resume and writing samples.

[> Subject: I think of certain girls competing and believe they are not the 'candidates' MA wants anymore. The on-the-spot essays at MO are designed to eliminate EDs or professional writers from completing the girl's paperwork and they'll have to prove their own spelling, grammar, and composition abilities.

[> [> Subject: What 17 or 18yo girl is going to be interested in a competition where they have to devise a platform and prepare a 2 minute Ted Talk defending its viability and longevity with specific measurable results, and give on-site writing samples as part of competing? And no real reason to wear an evening gown?

I think if the MAO can hold on to their 100th, they'll celebrate with NO CROWN!

[> [> [> Subject: Beauty pageants have been dead for years. Today's individuals don't want that fake old BS. There are ways to earn scholarships that are about brains not overpriced evening gowns that look ridiculous on 20 year olds. Let's be forward thinkers and leave the beauty pageants in our past.

[> Subject: In my opinion, the crown is a embarassing. These are intelligent women competing for scholarship money. To have a crown placed on their heads makes it seem so childish and selfish. I like the way 2.0 is finally moving. It's going to be relevant. A shiny crown on one's head is not forward thinking. Today's titleholders are too smart for that. They are above that. Todays titleholders are about serving others. No crowns needed.

[> Subject: Actually, I do agree that Miss America should not have to be crowned in an evening gown. Our girls are too young and too fun for that. They should be crowned in anything they want. If it's a gown they pick -- not their old director, fine, but it should be up to them. They are the future and can bring these need changes. Not the old dudes - their ship sailed.

What do you think happens when miss ohio or Miss America steps into the room? That crown and sash immediately identifies the girl as a role model someone to look at.. All the little girls in the room light up and they are astonished by this role model like a life sized Barbie doll they wanna be when they grow up! Take that crown away and you kill the marketing aspect.
The real problem in this organization is lack of scholarship money! Our girls should be debt free. We need more sponsor! Girls should get incentives to bring sponsors and that should be the FOCUS! Girls will come if we had $10,000 locals or $50,000 state scholarship.
Girls do not let them take away your crown!

[> [> [> [> Subject: Just like the real-world. That's wrong with that! 60% of American adults are overweight. Who cares? Get over yourself. No one should be strutting around to prove their worth in a bathing suit. So glad this scholarship program is no longer a beauty pageant, but one where the focus in on your work for others, not about narcissism.
