Subject: Re: Coach Foley reported that we had signed 23 of 27 recruits, which is awesome; cf. Lafayette 21 for 37 or thereabouts. We signed 2 kids who chose us over Lafayette. They credited the atmosphere and togetherness of the guys they met on the team who hosted them on their visits. Kids also impressed with fact that 6myn being spent on field improvements, etc. Staff has successfully addressed 3 key needs- offensive line, wide receivers and secondary. Tapes were impressive- Culver, Dayton, Marinelli, Wessel just to name a few which is unfair- just going from memory. Foley was terrific.

Agreed on Foley being a good guy - you definitely can't help but pull for him after meeting him.

Signing 23 of 27 recruits makes me wish we had simply recruited more :).

That said, check out the voy message boards for Lafayette and Colgate in particular and you'll see a pretty rabid group of fans who are all pumped up about their recruiting classes. One thing that stood out from Lafayette's class was the d-linman from NJ that turned down Stanford and some other 1-A scholarships to go there and Colgate looks like it really landed a strong class ... but that's just based on consensus on the board (that and a nickel used to get you something back in the day ...). I can't imagine how strong our recruiting would be if we had comparable facilities to theirs ... but then again I can't imagine how much stronger theirs would be if they had the draw of NYC to use ... particularly for their national recruiting.
