Has the logo/insignia intrigue been solved? In an earlier post I mentioned that Frank Mc, via email, assured me that the field would contain University/team logos. '92 stated that his contacts (lead architect/Proj Mgr) indicated otherwise. Do we know what's going on?

Subject: MIKE KNE- remember the name ? probably Clawson's finest OL recruit ever -out of Ohio; Fordham drag in the financial aid office going into his soph year caused his father to decide he had to go elsewhere; he walked on at Ohio State and ESPN just showed his pic as starting Tackle for Ohio State in its Bowl game.

...discussions...have begun about the possibility of distinguishing Division I football programs without the use of the I-A and I-AA labels. One concept under consideration would be to distinguish Division I programs by scholarship and other qualifying criteria for competitive purposes only...

This situation truly highlights how terrible of an AD Frank is.

We are now stuck with an interim coach which will kill recruiting for a year and set the program back 2 years.

Frank has no clue how to be an AD. He let Gallagher play him like a fiddle. Who the hell lets a coach take a leave of absence for a year? Only to get torched by the coach deciding to retire in January, right before the season!

Chalk it up to another completely bungled situation by Frank.

In ''The Fifty-Year Seduction: How Television Manipulated College Football, From the Birth of the Modern NCAA to the Creation of the BCS,'' Keith Dunnavant, the author of a biography of Bear Bryant, weaves a fascinating tale of intrigue and betrayal. The unholy alliance began on Sept. 30, 1939, when a game between Fordham, featuring the soon-to-be-legendary ''Seven Blocks of Granite,'' and Waynesboro State played at Triboro Stadium was televised by NBC, using a single camera perched high in the stands.

Not sure if someone else posted this and maybe I missed it, but I think this is relevant enough to make sure.

This business improvement district will help to clean up and market the neighborhood and make it less offensive/more attractive. Maybe we'll even see some yuppie gentrification and the Fordham area will be the next hot area? Either way, it can only help with attempts to market Fordham's athletic programs.

I do not know how many of you receive Fordham Athletics Round-Up , but the first issue of the year 2005 is really impressive. Perhaps, someone more able than I can create a link. I do not know how to subscribe to it either but the author can be contacted at skwiatkowski@fordham.edu and I bet you he knows how to sign up.
The Athletic and Alumni offices want to reach as many alumni as possible as instantaneously as possible on Fordham sports, all Fordham sports, not just basketball and football. What better vehicle than the internet? The Gridiron Club’s Jack Dunn has helped put this all together with Fordham’s Athletic Department, Sports Information and Alumni Offices and he seeks our help in getting email addresses of classmates and friends to whom Fordham sports news can be spread. Let Jack know , through, skwiatkowski@fordham.edu, to whom we can spread the gospel

I would like to wish all in the Fordham Family a happy and holy Christmas. Being in the tavern business, I am lucky to greet and lift a glass with many a Fordham man and yes woman, as part of my profession. Invariably its a pleasureable occasion. Just last night, I spent time with Jack Martin, a former Regis varsity and Fordham freshman basketball player under Frank McLaughlin and the great John Cirillo. Jack now produces ESPN radio sports and John after a long period running the Garden's PR is running is own representation shop. Then Kathleen Ford who is now a FTC lawyer down in DC, dropped by. And in recent days, we were honored to have the Farrels, Porcos, Jordans, Cafferellos etc, etc. They are all great parts of our family. And recently I was fortunate to host for lunch Father O'Hare who is now heading up his alma mater Regis for a year, the singular Jack Prael, who after a long fruitful banking career is helping with alumni affairs at Regis and the beautiful Anne Hilbert who after graduating from Fordham has worked in television most notably producing the Charles Grodin show. Anne is from a large and vital Fordham family. Her father after playing yes football at Regis graduated from Fordham and the law school. Her three brothers all went to the prep, two attended the college, Larry now head pro at Piping Rock was a European circuit tennis player and at one point #5 in the world in squash. Ironically, her only brother not to go to the College joined the Jesuits after Colgate and is now a Canon lawyer and Dean of the Gregorian. Merry Christmas!

Subject: Houston Chronicle Article on Texas A&M Football Discusses Trick Play That Won 1941 Cotton Bowl

Never heard this story before:

In the Aggies' first Cotton Bowl in 1941, they beat Fordham 13-12 and used a bit of trickery. Trailing 6-0 in the second half, coach Homer Norton called for the "hideout pass."

A&M's Earl "Bama" Smith acted as if he was running off the field as the Aggies broke the huddle. Instead, Smith stopped a stride short of the sideline and streaked down the field, catching a 62-yard TD pass from quarterback Marion Pugh.
