In his revised book, Christ Consciousness, Norman Paulsen says that his fellow monk, Daniel Boone, told him one day about kechari mudra while both of them lived at Mt. Washington. To his surprise Norman was able quite effortlessly to do this difficult mudra the first time he tried. He continued to do his kriyas with this mudra.

One day, he continues, he was summoned by PY. PY says that he's heard Norman is doing kriya differently.

"Well, yes sir, I am."
"Can you swallow your tongue?"
"Yes sir, I can."
"Show me." Paramahansaji picked up a flashlight and I performed the mudra. He backed up a step. "My Lord!" he exclaimed. "You don't know how blessed you are. Do you practice Kriya with your tongue upward?"
"Yes sir, I do."
"Well, well, this is the way Babaji first gave Kriya Yoga to Lahiri Mahasaya. You have been an adept in the past, this is why your karma has allowed you to perform the king of mudras. Go now, and keep up with your meditations, and don't talk to others about it! Wonderful experiences will come to you." Master cautioned at the time that if people thought they must swallow their tongues to find God, they would not attempt to practice the simplified version of Kriya Yoga he was teaching."

So we have this story of a first hand account of PY's speaking of kechari mudra as a part of kriya yoga.
