Commentary on Miss World:
I did not see Miss Gibraltar coming there. I suppose it's because we admittedly have a tendency to focus on the popular countries, aka sash factor. In the end Julia chooses who she wants. Gibraltar fit the mould: young, impressionable, and will listen to Julia. She also has an understated kind of beauty, the kind Julia likes. I too, like her a lot.
Americas
Mexico, Canada, Colombia, Panama, Brazil: Five Americas out of 16 semifinalists is phenomenal but 4 in the final 7 is even more phenomenal! I was glad Mexico got Queen of the Americas. Her final answer, while it was in Spanish, wasn't great. I loved Panama and was gladly shocked she was in the finals. She should have answered in Spanish. Canada didn't do it for me. She was mature, articulate and immensely talented, but doesn't do it for me beautywise. Colombia was a shock but she was gorgeous. She also seemed to be the type Julia likes but she lacked spark.I cannot comment on Brazil because I didn't even remember her being there.
Asia/Oceania
India,Korea,Vietnam,Kazakhstan,Japan: A great performance for Asia/ Oceania but none of the five advanced to the finals. Three Orientals, nice change. I quite liked Vietnam, I really hope she gets Continental Queen. I expected Korea to be there too based on my analysis of the fast track events' results. I never even saw Kazakhstan. No opinion on Japan, but she advanced because of the Fast Track. India also did not do it for me. I would not have missed her if she didn't make it to the semis or won Beauty with a Purpose.
Caribbean
Martinique. I thought Martinique was a risky vote, but my instincts told me she would make it. I did think she looked old. But she also seemed to have a lot of charisma. Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Barbados did not make it. What a travesty! What was predicted to be a encouraging year for the Caribbean, turned out to be the biggest WTF moments. It goes to show that the betting houses and blogsites sometimes can be dead wrong. For weeks Puerto Rico was the predicted winner and in the end it was Barbados being touted. I do admit, I thought Barbados would take it. Regarding Ashanna, I have no further comment as we all knew that she needed nothing short of a gigantic miracle. What I did notice was that there was a strong T&T flag presence. I wonder how much dey spend on dem flags? Joke!
Africa
South Africa, Sierra Leone. As usual, Africa is under represented. I expected South Africa to be there and Sierra Leone had to be there as she advanced automatically as a result of the fast track. Other than that, no other African. I thought South Africa nailed her question, at least the second half, but she is not Julia's type, too strong willed. Sierra Leone had no chance.
Europe
Gibraltar,France, Poland: Already commented on Gibraltar, France I loved since MU, was glad she advanced to final 7. I thought she could have won. Her look is softer than South Africa. Poland was not even on my list. But never discount these Central/Eastern European countries like Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovenia.
In the end, I like the winner and I like the runner's up. I really wished France would have gotten Europe Queen of Beauty. But what these results reinforce is that YOU HAVE TO THINK LIKE JULIA. The delegate must be beautiful in a soft understated way, articulate but not over confident. early to mid 2os, not be too opinionated, mouldable and most of all, sweet and meek! Where does Ashanna figure in these criteria?
Have a great Christmas and I look forward to the metamorphosis that is going to behold us with LaToya, La Joya! (the jewel)
