Actually, Bob I agree with the premise you've presented, except that I don't believe that any ELECTED judge tends to be biased toward a defense attorney unless of course that defense happens to be running for a judgeship. Look, let's be realistic, this judge didn't like Fieger from the get-go and, frankly my dear, I can understand why. Geoff can be a horse's patootie.. no, let me be more specific, he is ALWAYS a horses hind end no matter where he is, be it Detroit or Sarasota. But,(here comes the BUT), it should not matter one scintilla whether he is nice or nasty, uncouth or politically correct, a bastard or the second coming of Christ - that judge is supposed to be unbiased. Yes, that's a tall order. But, (another but) it has been done before and will be again. Jeez, if you had to like every attorney who came before you in court, you'd be in deep 'you know what'.
This is not a political issue; it's not about the prosecutor running for the bench; it's not about the personality of the attorneys; it's not about how cute they are or the newspapers opinion; actually it doesn't matter if he called the jurors Nazi's, creeps, sweethearts, or the anti-Christ. This is only about: did Ralf Panitz get a fair trial, or did his attorney f**k up because the judge didn't like his schtick.
I do not believe Ralf Panitz got a fair trial.
