You know there's a theory that they were intimate very early in the series, a quick fling, as evidenced by all the teasing and sexually charged bantering between them, then they drifted apart immersing themselves in their work, perhaps more to save their careers than anything else, but most assuredly influenced by their insecuries, or whatever. Then after the peak of the ice of Season 5 and the severe events of the movie they became more accessible to one another until BANG (heh heh) we get all the signs they have re-consummated the relationship in season 7. What do you think?

Excellent post, detoured! When I'm a fence-sitter I sit just like you! I too, had worried about the eps being shot out of sequence yet the flirting and closness continuing. I thought those instances couldn't be just a fluke! Well, maybe not "worried"... tee hee But to me Scully's openness and body language in The Goldberg Variation seems to be a definite turning point. In the scene where she cracks a joke - so unlike her - at the gate of the apts, if you watch Mulder, he is taken quite by surprise, like this was new to him at that time.

Oh, good catch about the Catholic statement. I thought at the time he was just teasing her, but it certainly could be applied to their intimacy.

Thanks for an interesting post.
Chantal
