Subject: "No sacrifice is purely altruistic. I give, expecting to receive." This is why I love CSM.

Sure, he's pure, "unadulterated" evil. He's used Mulder and Scully for his profit completely without conscience. He has no hope or ability for reformation. He's a filthy liar. He has a perverted attraction to Scully. I love him. Maybe because HE is the character most like CC. Makes sense, doesn't it?

Even though he's more the same than ever, this was a great insight into his character. Do you think he's really dying because of the brain surgery? Does he have the same mind-reading powers that Mulder did? Every good lie incorporates some element of truth, and CSM is an expert liar. I don't doubt that he really is dying, and I don't doubt that he really has a thing for Scully. Everything else is up for grabs.

So CSM and his consortium don't have all the answers- an independant-- this Cobra guy-- does. Cool. At first I thought they guy that was tailing Scully and CSM was Cobra. Seems like a cool name. I was expecting big, hulking evil dude. I used to watch G.I. Joe as a kid, and I remember Cobra call. "Cobra la la la la la la la la!!" It makes sense that Cobra wasn't a big, powerful government agent. I liked it. If CSM doesn't have the cure anymore, does that mean that he's going to die? Okay, I don't need the answer to that question. My real question is if CSM doesn't have the cure anymore, does that mean that he won't appear in future XF movies? I'm sobbing already.

I loved the role reversal in this ep. I believe that CSM had decided to target Scully rather than Mulder because he believes that Mulder is a dead end. With Mulder, CSM appealed to his interest in his sister. With Scully, he is appealing to her interest in medicine. Scully knows that Mulder has gotten screwed over because he trusted CSM to easily, but she never experienced being on the receiving end of that smokey charm. Mulder was clearly angry and incredibly concerned about Scully. Good job by DD and GA. We see once again that Mulder can be the calmer of the two.

Great quotes in this ep. My favorites:
"It's time I quit" I had a faith crisis when I heard this. If CSM stops smoking, what will I call him? Ex-CSM? I was so relieved when he lit up again at the end of the ep. Whew. Things are as they should be.

"Don't get testy, G-man" and "Is this place secure?" For the people that said the relative inaction of TLG in FPS, I kinda agree. It was good to see them back in their traditional role- wayward hackers helping Mulder. Even though they had less screen time than in FPS, they were definitely better in En Ami.

"Great girl. Independant as they come. Everyone likes having a FBI agent in the building." Yeah, we all know how much Mulder's landlord must love him. LSD in the water, decontamination procedures, not to mention the deaths.

There were a few minor things that I didn't like in En Ami:
First of all, the title. We all get the pun- ami= friend, but it sounds like "enemy"- but it was a bit too cutesy, I think.

This is minor too, but I also didn't like the voice-over conversation between M&S while we were watching CSM. It just didn't jive, IMO.

Oh, Mulder and Scully both looked awesome in this ep! Holy hot Mulder. Sure, we got an eyefull of Scully, but mmmmMulder! Rumpled pajama Mulder (those flannel bottoms) and the black turtleneck with the brown leather jacket. It's obvious that the wardrobe budget has expanded, but I'm not complaining! I can't wait to watch this one again.

I'm done rambling now. Just typing until I think of something to say. :-)

hairytoes, who wonders where the heck CSM actually lives
