Subject: Would the MSR have progressed if. . .

Suppose that, late in season seven, DD, CC and the Fox execs had been able to reach some sort of agreement which would have allowed for another two seasons of classic, Mulder-and-Scully XF eps, instead of the Mulderlite season eight, followed by the current Mulderless/Scullylite season. Maybe they could have agree to do only 16 eps a season, instead of the traditional 22, or something of that nature.
The question is: Do you think they would have ended season seven with Scully pregnant and season eight with an acknowledgment (see Melissa's thread about what Frank Spotniz said) that Mulder and Scully had consumated their relationship and had every reason to believe that William was their naturally conceived son if Mulder had remained on the show??
Personally, I doubt it. CC seemed to be strongly opposed to actually filming any eps in which Mulder and Scully were acknowledged to be in an intimate relationship. If DD had stuck with the show, I don't think the whole "William" storyline would even have been conceived.
