Brian and I met at the TAMI Show in 1964 and we kept in touch. In 1966, when Brian was at RCA recording, I ran into him while I was interviewing an American group, the Astronauts.

Brian and I started talking. A couple of things he said are relevant to your question. At that time Brian felt that two things that hurt him with the Stones and sidetracked his career in the Stones as its founder and his ability to keep impacting the direction of the group were (1) the arrival of Andrew and (2) the fact that the other Stones refused to understand why Brian got five pounds more than the rest of them.

In starting the group, Brian had incurred costs to promote the Stones that Mick, Keith and the rest of the band did not contribute to like stamps, phones calls, advertisements and other costs that are required to promote and manage a band. In the beginning Brian did more than anyone to promote the Stones and he felt he deserved to be paid back for the money he'd spent. He said that Keith and Mick didn't contribute any money to help with promotion costs.

When the rest of the band found out he was getting the extra money, he tried to explain it was to reimburse him for those costs. Mick and Keith not only didn't buy it, but started to freeze Brian out of the core of the group, relegating him to the position of a sideman in the band he founded.
