Not too sure about America, but in the Brit 60s junkie was a catchall phrase describing everyone who took drugs to the point they were addicted. Along with the substances Ive mentioned, I also took romilar, then a very trippy cough preparation you could happily overdose on and blast yourself for hours. I took morphine, STP, tincture, and on one really unfortunate night, slugged down a quart of methadone (synthetic heroin substitute) after having been told it was romilar. I was violently ill all over the city of Rome, Italy, for three days. Very embarrassing. Ive never stuck a drug filled needle into my body nor let anyone do it to me, but a junkie is what I was, pure and simple. Not proud of it either.
