Thanks, Linda! As regards your statement about Brian asking that girl to marry him, he asked just about everyone to marry him at one time or another, even me!! In my case, we were both drunk out of our heads, were both having a fit of giggles, and he stated that maybe marriage was going to be the incentive I needed to move into Cotchford and keep him company. I remember laughing so hard I fell over (we were sitting on the little rise just past the pool) and it ended with even more laughter on both parts. I never once thought he was serious, other than that he really did want me to move in as a friend.
As far as I know, he never did ask Anita, and I believe that pissed her off. He never told me why, we never discussed that, but somewhere in his head I think he must have known she would eat him alive had he married her. Deep down inside, getting past the excitement of Anita, Brian had to have known he needed a nurturing, strong, motherly girl like what he wanted out of his own mother and never got. Linda Lawrence probably came closest, but she got pregnant. Had she not, he might have married her, but this is speculation on my part. He never talked about her to me. I only heard about Anita, and of course, Suki, who he was seeing still. He would never have married Suki.
